While were all waiting for the R1 release  ;7

For those of you who have Sins of a Solar Empire (Fraking cool space strategy game) a BSG mod has been released called "Sins of the 13th Tribe" Its still in its early stages, but plays very well.
Its kind of Similar to the HW2 mod.

I think there was a previous thread on other BSG related mods, but I could not find it.

I know its not directly related to Diaspora, but it is BSG related, so hopefully Karajorma wont have me flushed out an airlock........ (like Snail, poor snail was never the same again  :drevil: )

I know there is an X3 BSG mod in production, but currently its in German......
Few others around too, like I saw a video on Youtube of some guy who added Cylon Centurions in Oblivion, not what you would expect to see wandering around the city, but was different  :D

I've never had a problem with other mods posting about their releases here. We're all in the same field after all and people playing the Sins mod takes a little pressure off of us. :)

i've always been a big supporter of the homeworld 2 mod for bsg. the crysis mod seems to be still alive, still is kind of a strong word given it hasn't been really made yet. i have also enjoyed the freelancer mod dawn of war. but i would be careful about that because it is pretty strict rp wise. it is not hard to get an entire clan as your enemy so take care.

I don't like the Sins mod, nor do I really like Sins at all. It's a fun game, but I cna never really get into it. I usually just find myself quitting out of boredom. :(

The mod for HW2 has A LOT of errors.

I played Sins a lot when it came out. It originally has very BSG-like battles, so a BSG mod felt very natural for it. I'll definitely take a look.

DropTeam would actually be a pretty cool medium for a BSG mod. You could direct infanty squads and Land Rams while providing cover in Raptors and Vipers...

For those of you who have nothing at all, there is a free game called Battleships Forever which basically turned into a BSG mod. It was posted on the BTRL forum, the game looks kind of arcade like at first but is actually pretty amazing.

The idea is that ships are made out of a bunch of pieces connected to each other, so you can blow these pieces up without necessarily killing the ship. It makes for some amazing space battles. The game itself has lasers and all of that, but you can design your own ships any way you want them. So a bunch of people went on to design a bunch of galacticas, pegasus's, and basestars and battles there look a lot like they do in the series, with the basestar's protruding wings being blown up and chunks of it flying everywhere but the basestar keeps fighting. Then a critical middle section blows up and a massive explosion follows, and all that's left is debris. FTLs have also been added now and you can jump your ship as long as the FTL is working and has energy.

Here is the link to the game:

Here is the link to the database so you can search for terms like "BSG" "Cylon" and "Galactica" to find the rest:

They now have a mode where you can basically make your own missions, fighting waves of enemies or doing patrols or whatever. So now with the ability to make your own ships and missions its potentially a great bsg game but just needs people to make more bsg stuff for it.

If I recall, Sins had fighters and bombers, but they were tied to a carrier vessel or an orbital base.

Of course, your mod might not have fighters, which is rather depressing...

btw I was referring to hw2. I don't find sins suitable for a bsg mod.

I can understand what you mean. You deal with a much bigger fleet in Sins than you see in
BSG anytime. There are also a lot of different ships for different tactics, BSG practically has three
for each fraction (Colonials: Battlestars, Vipers and Raptors; Cylons: Baseships, Raiders and Heavy
Raiders). And in Sins all fighters are launched from capital ships and you can't control them yourself
which would mean that in a BSG mod you'd only have Battlestars against Baseships with the option
to launch fighters. That doesn't really fit the tactital approach in Sins imo.

What adds is that things like Point Defense Guns don't exist in Sins (afaik) which makes it difficult to
accurately simulate a Battlestar.

But Sins is still a great game even in the vanilla version. And there are already a lot of good mods.
I personally don't need Battlestars and Vipers in every game to find it good. ;)

Agreed. By no means is Sins a bad game, it's just very different from HW2. In HW2 you have more controls over the individual units, such as having the capital ships circling each other and firing at the same time in a true 3d environment whereas in Sins it's more about larger fleets and strategic overall command. Given the limited number of ships seen in BSG and the show's focus mainly on a single battlestar, HW2 is more fitting :)

I was very depressed when my overly modded copy of homeworld 2 completely stopped working. i'm starting to miss fleet commander more and more so i guess i'm going to have to reinstall it.

I know I've got a history of this but anyone know where the crysis mod went?

Look here:

Anyway, I got a new mod for you people. First of all I can't say how good the mod really is because I don't own the game yet (I actually bought it on Ebay today). But if you ask me it looks quite promising.

It's for a game called "Starshatter - The Gathering Storm". I'm afraid it's not very well known. It's basically a space simulation which lets you command capital ships or fly smaller fighters yourself. There's also a dynamic campaign in which you can achieve ranks etc. I've done some research on the net and it seems to be a good game. Here's the homepage, you can also find a demo on this site: http://www.starshatter.com/

The mod is what you'd expect from a BSG mod. It replaces the ships from the game with the ones from BSG. Doesn't sound that exciting at first but I think it's the only game thet lets you fly a Viper/Raptor/Raider whatever yourself while it also gives you the opportunity of commanding a Battlestar. It's also possible to play the dynamic campaign with BSG ships so the mod is more than just a few missions.

Here are the links for the mod:
Main Mod: http://www.starshattermods.com/infusions/pro_download_panel/download.php?did=27
Campaign Mod (lets you play the dynamic campaign with BSG ships): http://www.starshattermods.com/infusions/pro_download_panel/download.php?did=33
Music Mod (adds the original soundtrack to the mod [might be illegal to use if you don't own it yourself]): http://www.starshattermods.com/infusions/pro_download_panel/download.php?did=29

And here are some videos I found on YT. Looks quite good if you ask me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhpYfounyH4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5Apejp1UtA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSIDK_SmXdA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcD-XHzuy6k

On the first video you'll notive that the Cylon Basestar isn't correct. I have however seen screenshots of the mod in which he is correct so that might be an older version in the video.

I'll report if it's any good as soon as the game arrives and I have time to play it. ;)
