Title: [Requests] The Lost Generation - Ashcroft
Post by: 0rph3u5 on November 04, 2016, 06:00:37 pm
Hi,

I've just taken stock of the Command Briefings in The Lost Generation - Ashcroft (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=92732.0) and would like to request animations to replace the generic NTF animation.

It would be really nice if you could take these on. However because the of the release of BtA I don't expect them to be made and/or be ready at my release date. It would be nice to have them done later on and added as treat post-release.
Since each scenario is based on Act 2 of the Freespace 2 campaign, I guess you can draw inspiration freely from there...

1. Mission 2:
1.1 1st Stage "Current Situation"
1.2 2nd Stage "March of the Colossus"

2. Mission 6:
2.1 1st Stage "New Squadron"
2.2 2nd Stage "King's Gambit"
2.3 3rd Stage "End of the Road"

3. Mission 10:
3.1 1st Stage "Promotion" & 2nd Stage "Squadron Command"

Details (The accompanying text will be changed slightly, most improtantly to turn them into correct English, but should maintain tone and focus - the degree of misinformation should also stay the same):
1.1 [FS2 style starmap]
Spoiler:
This part of the NTF briefing describes the situation after "Feint! Parry! Riposte!" but right before "King's Gambit" with a focus on the exploits of the 13th Vasudan Battlegroup as described in the Command Briefing of "Battle of the Wilderness". Think of the 2nd half of cb_sm2-01_a.ani with the colours swapped for a basic idea.

Current Text (not final):
"The current situation of the Neo-Terran movement is dire to say the least pilots. After Admiral Koth's failure in the Epsilon Pegasi campaign, the GTVA has begun its counter-offensive on two fronts - Sirius and Polaris.

The 13th Vasudan Battle group has launched a two-pronged assault through Alpha Centauri and Deneb and has destroyed the NTD Cyrene and most of our garrison fleet in Sirius. Bombardments on loyal Neo-Terran worlds have been commenced and are still in progress as we speak."

1.2 [FS2 style starmap]
Spoiler:
Pretty much the same as 1.1 but with a focus on the Colossus - to press the point that the Colossus is evil in this scenario.

Current Text (not final):
"The Situation in Polaris is not as bad as this, but still we are about to be forced out of system by the GTVA and its monstrous oppression machine - the GTVA Colossus.

After destroying the Repulse in Epsilon Pegasi the Colossus was deployed in Sirius annihilating the NTD Andronicus and the NTC Camisard upon arrival. Destroying the Andronicus opened the Epsilon Pegasi Node to the GTVA allowing them to deploy their reinforcements and logistics.

So far the Colossus has not engaged any other NTF vessels in the system but NTF Command is certain the Vindicator will be next if we cannot leave the orbital docking facilities."

2.1
A simple "fly-by" of an Orion with the "NTD Vasa"-nameplate will do, maybe with the NTF logo overlaying it similarly to cb_sm1-01_a or the first 100 frames of cb_sm3-06_a. Because the squadron you are now flying with uses the Herc and the Zeus - if the nameplate wasn't prominently featured I would just use the Krios fly-by from FSPort :)

2.2 [FS2 style starmap]
Spoiler:
Similarly to 1.1 and 1.2 this is basically a reversal of the command briefing in "Battle of the Wilderness" and "King's Gambit" and the animation should reflect that specifically in regards to cb_sm2-01_a and cb_sm2-04_a.

Current Text (not final):
"Admiral Bosh recently assembled the NTF fleet in Regulus. Not for a last stand, as the GTVA was lead to belive but to consoldiate our fleet before beginning our charge.

This Gambit has worked out perferctly well. We have evaded the GTVA Colossus and shocked their commanders. The first enemy units we encounered, the 6th fleet of Epsilon Pegasi, did not put a fight when the Vasa emerged in the System and drove off the blockade force at the jump node."

2.3 [FS2 style starmap]
Spoiler:
Like 1.1, 1.2 and 2.1 this basically a canon command briefing with the perspective reversed, again it draws on "King's Gambit", most improtantly on cb_sm2-04a and it's accompanying stage. Gamma Draconis and the Knossos should be prominent.

Current Text (not final):
"The fleet has set course for Gamma Draconis - more specifically to other side of the subspace portal there which a NTF search-party recently discovered there. The portal connects our system with another part of the galaxy.

Admiral Bosh belives that we can find shelter on the other side of the portal and maybe even escape the oppression by the GTVA."

3.1
Same as 2.1, however do to change in situation I would rather have a slightly changed animation - think the difference between cb_sm1-01_a and cb_sm3-06_a. Still the NTD Vasa.

I look foward to hearing from you.

I haven't read the details, but I can do these. I need to finish some other things higher up on the todo list, first, but I'll definitely get to them. :)

(Just wanted to respond so you didn't think I was ignoring you!)

Thank you very much!

(I don't keep this forum on my shortlist and didn't expect you to get back to me so soon)

Any updates?

I am aiming for a new exact release window (not telling publicly yet), and would like to know if the animations will be ready in time (they don't have to).
