Hello folks. I've been the proud owner of a 3d printer since last year. I've read a lot here in the forum about 3d printed freespace miniatures. I've dealt extensively with the export of the 3d models. And now I have already printed and painted some models.

Holy crap, these are incredible!
-
NICE!
-
That big Deimos :eek2: :eek2:
I love these! I'm curious about the process and which printer you're using. When converting the models, did you have to do some modeling yourself to get them to print well? Or can you just kinda convert and go? Are they all solid or are any hollow or scaffolded?
-
Those are incredible, bravo!
-
How about a 1:1000 scale Colossus?
-
Excellent job painting them too, the Orion's greebles look great!
-
How about a 1:1000 scale Colossus?
Where you been?

Hi. Thanks ;)
Yes, some models require some post-processing. But 90 percent of the time they're just converted and ready to print.
I print on a Prusa I3MK3S+. I hope that one day I can call an SLA printer my own. ;7
Most are not massive. 20% to 30% infill no more.
-
How about a 1:1000 scale Colossus?
1:1000 scale :eek2:
wait...this would be over 6 meters in lenghts
-
Hello Hello again.
i have some new stuff outside the 3D printing shipyard... ;)
the Sathanas in an even bigger scale, 25000:1 and an "bearbait" Hecate in the same scale.
unpainted, actually but this follows ;7

and some corvette stuff, includes the ones from the Aftermath and Inferno mods, Armaros and Scylla (thanks to the creators of this nice ship models)
and at the last, an Asuras Gunship / Cruiser
(https://i.ibb.co/FDZLRrX/20220425-194816.jpg)
i hope i can paint them all in the next time...
-
What hardware are you printing these on buddy? 0.4 nozzle?
-
That Hecate is about to become lunch.
-
What hardware are you printing these on buddy? 0.4 nozzle?
the Sathanas is printed with 0.4 nozzle on 0.10 detail.
it was done in one day and 18 hours...
a 0.5 nozzle makes no sense with this model size.
the Hecate, Asuras and the Corvettes are printed with a 0.5 nozzle.
The details are then relatively important
another small improvement...a Rakshasa in 3500:1 scale

Ender style, sliced with cura? I'm keen to print some more but my 3 and 4 years olds would destroy anything I leave unsupervised 🤣
-
No.
Everything with and from Prusa / Prusa Slicer. I'll be honest, I'm really quite new to 3D printing. I just got my Prusa MK3S+ last year in September... but i have learned a lot in this time about 3D-printing.
But it's the same as with all technical innovations. 3D printers for home use are also progressing further and faster.
-
I've only been on it since last June. I always keep a delta mini v2 in my car just in case I get the chance to do some working away. Like anything, as you know, it's a constant educational hobby.
-
Me again. :D
There are supplies. Deimos and Hecate are done.
For a change, sometimes Terran ships, not just Shivans ;7

Is that PLA+?
-
Yes. Is it.
I am really satisfied with this material for my prints. Especial for the minis.
-
Me again. :D

Those are great  !
-
These look awesome. You have enough for an entire tabletop wargame now.
-
Yes, thats an good idea.
I search and work indeed on an tabletop variante of FS2 in my spare freetime...
I had asked myself "why no one other had do this over the entire years?" I had read about this "little" Kickstarter project of an Freespace 1 dogfighting game and the this trading card game. But...thats all not really interesting. Only fighters? Boring.
On the other side.. :D here are some new pics.
I have finished my Sathanas now and have made an little "Capship/Destroyer Collection"
The same with the corvettes. The newest additions are the Scylla and the Diomedes/Babylon

holy **** these look amazing. I would kill to have a set of these on my desk at work
-
I'm not sure if you've ever seen the TV series Firefly (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303461/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0), but in an early scene in the show's pilot episode, the ship's pilot is playing with a bunch of dinosaur toys on his console. Your statement just invoked a mental image of you doing something similar with Freespace ships when no-one is watching.
-
"Iceni! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
-
Yes. I know this Episode of Firefly :D
I had the wish to have all the FS ships as miniatures since i had played Freespace 1 and then later Freespace 2 the very first time.
And now, over 20 years later it is possible ;7
I was so happy like an little child, as i had readed the post with the manual, how to extract the .pof files out of the game. finally, with an 3D printer, everything is possible.
-
Hi. i had an new idea.
it was born from an print failure of the Hatshepsut.
i print the ships most of the time in two parts, cut in half by the lenghts and printing first on part completly and then the second half, completly
this time the second parts results in an failure.
i drilled an hole on the flat side and placed an magnet inside. and so i created an fridge magnet of the Hatshepsut ;)

-
I just had a image of doing a redux of a mission briefing (retaining the voice and sounds from an actual mission briefing) on your fridge door with magnets, complete with hands entering the frame to move the ships around.
-
This is so ****ing cool!
Damn, I still remember back when people printing out the textures on card stock so we could glue them together and have a little paper model of a ship.
-
Hey dude, how you been? Yeah I remember when they were dowbloadable too.
-
Its been a long 9 years since my last login, glad to see this place is still active.
