Here is a brief outline of the current status of the standalone release of INFA.
Modes:
Current the modpack can be run in either INFA, INFA2, or FSPort modes which determine starting weapons and the main game balance. FSPort mode is the general FS1 mode, removing all railguns and balance changes, INFA mode is the standard, and INFA2 mode brings flak and beams into the mix. All weapons are available in all modes, just the default loadouts are changed, but the EA ships are unique to INFA2 mode to keep the table limit down. INFA2 mode will not be available in the first release.

Mission Update
INFA campaign is now extended to thirty missions, of which about 5 are in progress.
-
Woot! Punisher Cannnon! :D
Wait a second... I don't see the Lindos anywhere on that shiplist. Please don't say it has been dropped. :(
Anyhow, that's great news. I'm really looking forward to this...
-
The Lindos does not appear in INFA2. It was developed afterward. So was the Ryujin. The destroyers the EA use are the Zagreus and the Tereus instead.
-
Oh good. I like the Lindos. It would have been horrible to not have it in the mod anymore.
-
The final EA ship list for INFA2 hasn't been decided yet, what is currently up there are the confirmed ships.

A new trailer of the current INFA mod, mostly new INFA missions, a few oldies and scenes from Awakenings and the FS1 main campaign.
-
Awww... that movie file crashes WMP.
I'll just wait for someone to upload it to youtube, or something.
-
Works fine on my WMP11...
You might want to check your DIVX/XVID codec...
-
A very nice trailer indeed. :)
Is your take on the Leviathan compatible with ordinary Freespace? Its nice to see a visually distinct Leviathan that isn't just a color change.
-
More or less, I had to move the turrets slightly so they weren't in the hull or floating in space but it has the same basic configuration, and it seems to work fine when used in the FS1 campaign.
-
Would you care to post it up, or keep it reserved for the eventual INFA Release?
-
We have discussed about modifying the armament(adding more turrets, for example)but appears that the INFA Leviathan is going to remain as it is :)
I don't know if normal Leviathan nameplates are compatible with this INFA Leviathan model.
-
I don't know if normal Leviathan nameplates are compatible with this INFA Leviathan model.
They should be.
-
Nice trailer, looking forward to INFA2 so GET FREDING AND STOP POSTING ON THE FORUM!!!!!!!! :P :P
-
I always post on the forum! ;)
At least I don't go on MSN while attempting to FRED.
-
GET FREDING AND STOP POSTING ON THE FORUM!!!!!!!! :P :P
It's not easy when you want to spam :P
I work admirably when I don't have the Internet :)
At least I don't go on MSN while attempting to FRED.
That's my main weakness...
-
Sometimes I find myself writing what my friend just said into the messages editor...
-
I work admirably when I don't have the Internet :)
[quote/]
somebody hide his modem antill he finishes plz.... :P
-
I was about to PM Goober5000, requesting a week suspension from HLP. I want to be momentarily banned from GW and SG as well. This will improve my chances of FREDding as I used to.
But MSN is almost invincible. Admiral Edivad considers it a Tyrant... :eek2:
-
thats not a problem * hacks into LGM's msn account and deletes all profiles* better? :P
-
Well, I'm actually involved in a BoE battle on MSN.
-
I have a locker in my house, just as big to contain a PC and a person. It does not have an Internet connection. I'll lock you in there without food nor water until you finish FREDding. Ok? :p
Oh, and there aren't any windows. You can't escape :p
-
Do it in the real life so I can FRED.
-
Just a little update, over half the missions have been started and most of the main models are now high poly.
So far so good.
-
Good news. :)
-
'over half?' *checks*
Zoopy. :D
-
'over half?' *checks*
Zoopy. :D
Shhhh!!!!
-
More or less, I had to move the turrets slightly so they weren't in the hull or floating in space but it has the same basic configuration, and it seems to work fine when used in the FS1 campaign.
Aw snap, I'm torn between Raptor's up-gunned Fenris/Levi and Woo's Levi...............
-
Uhm, seems that my graphic card is working(but still no Audio or Internet connection from my computer) and I can use FRED. This means...can I finally re-start working on INFA! :P
-
i was just wondering if there was a projected release date for INFASA?
-
2008ish
-
Does normal maps, shades and other fancy stuff will be available in INFSA and INF SCP ??
-
:necro:
I somehow doubt that there will be normal maps, but I could be wrong. If they don't have normal maps for INFASA, I doubt they will add them now though, considering how close to completion it is. Maybe for INFSCP...
-
I somehow doubt that there will be normal maps, but I could be wrong.
Already done thanks to Freespaceking
-
Could you post some renders of ships with normal maps and shaders ??
-
I think it's the case of diverting the discussion to this thread instead of the INF SCP one as it would be more appropriate.
The release date is summer-ish due to upcoming exams for most members of the team.
One thing, would you like to see new 3.6.10 MVPs implemented in INFA? :D
-
One thing, would you like to see new 3.6.10 MVPs implemented in INFA? :D
Yes. Absolutely!!
-
Then the release will be summer-ish 2009.
-
Replacing files is going to have such a catastrophical effect? Why? :wtf:
-
Some things don't have an answer.
I was just joking anyway. Seeing as how long it takes to do anything in Inferno . . .
-
One thing, would you like to see new 3.6.10 MVPs implemented in INFA? :D
Well I sure as ****ing hell am not going to download several gigs of ***** just so I can rip 1 or 2 .dds files.
*very pretty ****, that is
-
Why the ****ing **** of **** would you not ****ing download those ****-awesome *****es?
-
Because they're not ready to be used in what in IT terms we call a "production environment". There are models with collision errors, shield mesh errors, etc. It will wait for now.
-
Why the ****ing **** of **** would you not ****ing download those ****-awesome *****es?
Because they don't ****ing **** of **** work on my mother****ing ****ing computer that's jesus ****ing why.
-

Shut the **** up, the both of yous. Seriously.

What he said. And the potential resource-unfriendliness.
-
i don't understand completely: INFA2 is NOT coming out with INFASA?
-
No. INFA2 is coming out AFTER INFASA.
-
FreeSpace Wiki anyone?
-
After this little *****fight (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54796.0.html) and subsequent hissyfit can we assume Inf: A has taken a fairly major setback?
-
After this little *****fight (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54796.0.html) and subsequent hissyfit can we assume Inf: A has taken a fairly major setback?
Quite major, yes.
-
Hi guys...
As you may have suspected, my PC is broken. My data isn't lost I think...it will take two-three weeks for me to return here in operational conditions.
And no, that thread isn't responsible for the delay.
-
Mobius! I thought you were K.I.A. by the JCD Majesty! And you got back just as I was about to loose hope in INFA. . . and went on a trip.
-
Why, of all the days, did you have to make your unexpected return today? I was anxiously looking forward to not getting the infamous hbpm. :doubt:
I was about to loose hope in INFA. . . and went on a trip.
Hmm. I guess we really are justa bunch of stoners. Or, I mean... *cough* not me, of course, but the lads told me... :nervous:
-
Not dead! Yay!! :nervous:
-
there is still hope!
-
It's kind of embarrassing since I sent Mobius a few "I'M SORRY PLEASE COME BACK :( :( :(" personal messages that didn't think he'd get... But I think we're back on good terms right now. :)
-
Getting Mobius back is pointless if Snail doesn't grammar check the campaign. Yesterday I was surprised - there was no sign of progress even if team members like Snail had something to do.
-
Getting Mobius back is pointless if Snail doesn't grammar check the campaign. Yesterday I was surprised - there was no sign of progress even if team members like Snail had something to do.
I've been doing other things, not INFA, just so that you know.
-
I get your point but one month and a half of complete inactivity...? There are many things Mobius can't do for INFA, you know...
-
Well, Mob seems to be acting very productive and friendly.
-
Sarcasm?
I was surprised...that is all...
-
I get your point but one month and a half of complete inactivity...? There are many things Mobius can't do for INFA, you know...
And it seems there are a lot more things you can't do for ED, either.
-
Yep, I can't work right now.
-
I thought it was the case of updating the news...
The main campaign is in very good shape now and missions are being progressively upgraded/FREDded. At the moment I think we're likely to release the mod in December/January but we have Real Life issues to contend with. Me, Dysko and Admiral Edivad have the University to think about while Shiv and Snail are being busy with school. Woo is busy, too...but he finds enough time to browse the forums and oversee the project's development.
I guess our spare time will be enough. :)
-
Awesome! I'm really, really looking forward to this.
-
Mobius, try not to give release dates... If it's not done people hopes will be crushed.
-
Common sense is sensible. . . .
-
Snail, I'm giving out a possible release date that considers my current efforts. In case of delays I will not be the only responsible member ;) :P
-
thinks still going well ??
I start to understand why its take so time for a release my life take so time i can work on Sol-Terra
-
just that name intrigues me :D
-
The project is going, don't worry - Internal is much more active than the public board.
As you probably know we have RL(University, job) and other projects to deal with(ED, NTV) but I can ensure you that INF isn't dead...a series of unfortunate events prevented the mod from being released this summer and could prevent it from being released on Christmas, but don't worry. :)
-
Work has also been done on the main INF mod over the past 2 weeks, though not to the same pace as INFA is progressing.
-
Let's say that INF SCP is running, too... ;)
-
What bugs me is the fact that unfortunate events occur when I have spare time(*cough* summers *cough*) while nothing happens during other periods of the year.
INFASA is running, it isn't dead. I'm FREDding a mission right now. :)
-
INFA.
-
I believe by INF he meant INFSCP.
-
Ah ok...but INFA isn't crap, it's a worth INF mod...shouldn't it deserve more consideration?
-
Ah, but it's out already. So it's not in that race, is it. Now INF:A-SA could be put in the race, but there's not much point. It really doesn't require nearly as much as it might in order to make INF:A stand alone from a released campaign as it might to make it from scratch.
Interesting thought. Once Inferno: Alliance is stand alone, Alliance, Pt. 2 could simply be dropped in to it as a mod.
-
I'm not sure people are as excited by INFA as INF SCP, since it feels like it's just a prelude to the main event.
-

That's the plan...
-

INFASA will be released with a remake of the INFA campaign released in late 2006 and by remake I mean "with radical changes in all missions".
I'm not sure people are as excited by INFA as INF SCP, since it feels like it's just a prelude to the main event.
IMHO INFA campaigns are much more than a prelude to INF SCP. They're connected to the main INF SCP campaigns but not in a way that turns them into preludes and nothing more.
-
No doubt INF SCP is the main but INFA is, IMO, good enough to have some consideration.
And nope, it's not a pure prequel. There's a gap of several decades between INFA and INF SCP and the two campaigns aren't about the same things. You have a prequel when the time gap, the technologies and the environments are similar.
-
Let your pride go and let yourself see the light.
This is an odd thing to say.
While I agree that INF:SCP is the main event, I think that INFA is far more than the BWO demo was. I eagerly anticipate INFASA, since I believe that Mobius is a talented FREDder. It's almost certain that it'll be better than INFR1, for example.
-
Thanks for the compliment...I think there's a lot of confusion about what INFA really is. That's why there's a stickied thread about acronyms...
-
Well I don't think the BWO demo is nearly as large as INFA is going to be
-
Still, I don't get the "side stories to the main event" thing. As I said INFA is far enough from INF SCP to be much more than a prequel...
-
But the thing is that nobody cares about what happens in INFA:SA nearly as much as they care about INF SCP.
-
That is true...
-
personally one of my favorite mod is SAH and it is parallel version off INFA so INFA for me is good for known the history of EA and how the Terran become a military dictatorial government
So INFA will be cool, less epic, but cool :D
-
Why do you think it will be less epic? I'm almost certain that INFASA will be more epic than SAH. Though SAH, of course, won't die out because of that.
-
I think Blaise Russel claimed that he would create a remake of S:AH compatible with INF SCP in the future...S:AH won't die... :)
-
Maybe if we are very lucky, INFA can be released around Christmas.
If I finish m8, it's possible.
-
Then why don't you? :P
-
Ah ok...but INFA isn't crap, it's a worth INF mod...shouldn't it deserve more consideration?
It does but the original INF R1 came out several years ago, and so there has been a lot of anticipation that has been building for much longer.
-
Maybe if we are very lucky, INFA can be released around Christmas.
If I finish m8, it's possible.
Then why don't you? :P
That's what I have been thinking for a while... :doubt:
-
Well at least by posting that comment he now takes the entire blame if it isn't out this year :D
-
Me and Edivad are responsible for m30, though... :nervous:
But still
-
Ok, I'll ask Snail to send his mission to me...
-
Then why don't you? :P
Well, FRED kept crashing, so to get around that, I went and corrupted the mission in Notepad. Genius!
-
M30? Thirty missions?
-
M30? Thirty missions?
Yeah.
-
Yes, he was.
-
I'm currently working on m8. :D
-
I'm currently working on m8. :D
Yeaaah! Finally, Inferno's coming out before the next blue moon!
Yeesh...what with this and Silent Threat: Reborn, I think Christmas Day is going to be taken up more by FSOpen then whatever games my family buys for me o_O.
-
I don't think INFASA will be released before Christmas. There's a very good chance the campaign will be entirely FREDded by December 25th but please don't forget that it will have to be tested intesively... ;)
-
Testing will take up a lot more time.
-
It depends on the team members' activity...
-
Just FYI, I am seriously considering quitting INFA again due to lack of motivation.
-
But not for MT surely? :p
-
Snail is free to do whatever he wants, he's not obliged to stay here. He may be a lot more productive for Earth Defense, for example. :)
-
i'll test, i'm getting good at it :p
-
You need much more than testing capabilities to join the team... ;)
-
i didn't ask to join it, i just meant send me a mission or two and i'll test it.
-
The campaign is fifteen times bigger so the effort would be limited. Also, by testing I mean a lot of things that go well beyond bug hunting and feedback...
-
ah. ok.
-
Well I won't be quitting unless I really feel that I can't do anything else on INFA. I suppose when the holiday for Christmas comes I'll be a lot more busy, but with INFA and FS2 modding stuff instead of homework (not to mention procrastination).
-
There's something you can easily do right now, like certain *CLASSIFIED* lines... ;)
-
The campaign will prolly be finished by Christmas, but the release will probably be sometime later.
-
For testing purposes?
-
No, we're going to hold on to it to annoy you.
Yes testing purposes.
-
Meh, don't worry about the release dates, guys. Never sacrifice quality for speed, unless you're doing a parody. In which case speed should be the only thing worth caring about. ;)
-
Guys, please note that "testing" means a lot of things. Don't be surprised if the campaign will take a while to be released.
The new INFA campaign has been in the works since early 2007 so the missions have been designed in about two years. Obviously, "harmonizing" them to make the campaign enjoyable would take a while.
-
It's because the difference FREDders have different perceptions of the mission doc, FREDding styles and FRED builds right?
-
Good to see INF is still alive. I'd love to play INFA, but this comp is teh suxxorz.
-
Good to see INF is still alive. I'd love to play INFA, but this comp is teh suxxorz.
In that case, mess around with INFR1 in FRED2. There are a lot of ships in there.
-
It's because the difference FREDders have different perceptions of the mission doc, FREDding styles and FRED builds right?
No because I'm the FREDder. The others gave their contributes but the campaign is without any doubt on my shoulders, only.
-
I really respect you for that. :)
-
Thanks. :)
The others aren't good for nothing, though - their contributes are important. Snail, for example, created very good message lines for the campaign. I'm waiting for a few of them to complete a mission. Admiral Edivad is currently working on the lines for the final mission. I'll ultimate the campaign as soon as I get the lines. :D
-
just wondering, what happened to woo? come to think of it, i haven't seen one of his posts in a long time...
-
I don't post in the public forum much now. I'm too busy working on both INF Modpacks in the internal :)
-
Did you said BOTH ? :) I almost lost fait for both (or al least INF:SCP).
Maybe a little teaser for both? C'mon christmas is coming :)
-
How about a release?
-
Did you said BOTH ? :) I almost lost fait for both (or al least INF:SCP).
Maybe a little teaser for both? C'mon christmas is coming :)
Well I'll see if I can get some new screenshots done or something
-
That would be very good.
-
I suggest opening new eyecandy thread and new glory shots thread :)
-
There will not be a Christmas release. It is too good to be true and by expecting it, you are living in a dream world. Don't get your hopes up because it will make it that much worse when the cold slap of reality kicks in.
It'll already be done by Christmas; it's the testing that's going to take ages.
-
I suggest opening new eyecandy thread and new glory shots thread :)
Why?
There are already 3 different ones stickied at the top.
-
Done is one thing. Ready is another. A Christmas turkey can be done as soon as it comes out of the oven. That does not mean it's ready to eat. By the same token, while they may be done making the campaign by Christmas, that does not mean it's ready to release.
-
I suggest opening new eyecandy thread and new glory shots thread :)
Why?
There are already 3 different ones stickied at the top.
They're pretty outdated. New screenshots thread will be more fresh and will attract more people :D
-
They're pretty outdated. New screenshots thread will be more fresh and will attract more people :D
Heh . . . I doubt that in "New Eyecandy Thread" all 61 pages were dedicated to the Inferno mod. Thanks for clarifying that with me. :)
-

Heh . . . I doubt that in "New Eyecandy Thread" all 61 pages were dedicated to the Inferno mod. Thanks for clarifying that with me. :)
Well, IMO t90% of those pages were just some discussion... Not screenshots related discussion ;)
-
No problem people, the team is active. We have a lot of surprises to show you in the future, too, but don't ask any questions about them...we won't reply... ;)
I have been away for a week due to the University. It doesn't mean I'm now on vacation, however...I need to compile some stuff and return back to the Uni tomorrow to deliver it. I also have a must-go party tomorrow I can't miss. I'll be able to work as a FRED Maniac in two days. :D
-
Only one mission is left to FRED. Then, the main campaign will undergo testing/bugfixing/improvement. :)
-
So, Mobius. Now that your little message no longer says anything about INFASA, does that mean the missions are finished? (Please say yes ;))
-
No problem, INFASA will come... I'm a bit busy with the FSCRP right now, but(just to give an example) I worked a bit on INFASA earlier today. :)
-
Hey all. I was just on youtube watching Freespace vids and came across this amazing Interno SCP trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhbf9X9s0GA&feature=related). Thought I'd stop by and ask how things are going with the SCP, INFA, etc? I noticed this thread hasn't been updated in a few months, thought it'd be good to let you all know there's still inquiring minds out there!
PS that trailer is amazing.
-
We've got some stuff coming down the line, that we hope to show off soon.
-
Cool. New stuff is always good. :)
-
I have recently worked on the implementation of original stuff... all I need to do now is reorganize my ideas and scripts. :)
-
MOBIUS!
You're okay!
-
Hi there... :)
-
We were worried.
-
I was worried as well... :(
-
Yeah, we heard. :( :sigh:
Anyway, good to have you back, and it's always good to hear news on Inferno.
-
You heard...? :wtf:
-
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63383.0.html
-
From Edivad. He said he'd been in contact with you.
-
Ok.
EDIT: That was the last thing I wanted to read here.
-
Agreed. Back to the topic at hand, which is the Standalone part of the Inferno Super Confusing Project.
Ahem....: We can haz INFASA soon? Pl0x? :p
-
Not until I'm done with the upgrade of the main campaign. :p
Also, if you really want to play something... well, there are many campaigns in need of testing... *cough* FSCRP *cough* :P
-
So I'm guessing it'll be out by the end of the month?
-
No. Read my reply to your post.
-
:bump:
Thought i'd pop in on you and see how things are going :) Hi-Poly Icanus in the works at all?
;)#
Sorry couldn't help myself, INFA is one of my favourite prequels...
-
Well High poly 'stuff' is in the works for both at the moment...
-
Any chance for Christmass release of (any) new Inferno?
-
At the moment I would say, no.
-
where the hell is the INF SCP status thread?
-
I think someone did a little un-notified deletion,
-
where the hell is the INF SCP status thread?
If you were inclined to snark, perhaps you would realize. :P
-
are there any new model dumps coming? I LOVE getting new ships to mess with and table X-D
-
INFA specific ones? Probably not any time soon.
-
Does the song "I am not dead yet" from Monty Python's Spamalot describe the status of the mod so far?
I thought Alliance was decent, but Chapter 1 via FSOpen had a few balancing issues. I think you guys may be having this on the "To do list."
Perseus Advanced: 4x Prometheus plus Valkyrie afterburner capacity = total gamebreaker against fighters. I guess if you guys made a second-generation UD-8 Kayser, it would mean "only one Terran system would be left standing."
Retaking the Gate: Too far distances to prioritize stuff (as in 20 kilometers!), and beam inaccuracy (more like mispositioning of ships or approach paths). Even splitting the work between wings didn't help. (I basically 64xed time compression and rammed into the gate to quit.)
Gigas: Mispositioning again, with the two Vasudan capital ships. The Hathor was meant to be beamed to death, but it was perpendicular to the Gigas and it said to "attack Gigas," but wasn't beam-freed. I basically bailed out and "no debrief."
-
We're completely remaking some missions, there's a certain amount of discussion on how close should they be to the original.
INFA is currently on hold, and will be until we get the remake out.
-

We have and the Perseus can't equip it. The Perseus can't equip much past the Hastor.
-
INFA is currently on hold, and will be until we get the remake out.
I'm actually redesigning it now, but yeah it's on hold.
-
Top priority is to release the Inferno remake, then everything else will fall in line. The mistake we won't make again is getting too ambitious for our own project goals.
R
-
Uhm.. anything new yet?
Would it be possible to at least get the first set of missions of the Remake out?
Some of us are waiting since a long time, u know.
-
As in INFA?
We'll probably retool it to match the final INF release so a lot of the story will have to be dropped to match the current INF style, plus Mobius vanished and didn't leave copies of anything he was working on for INFA.
At the moment INFA only exists as a basic outline, but it'll now be a mod for the final main Inferno standalone package, and not its own standalone.
-
Some of us are waiting since a long time, u know.
You DO realize that most of us have been here for a lot longer than "a couple of years", right ? You don't have anything to teach us in term of waiting :p
There are even those that were there when INFR1 was released !
-
...plus Mobius vanished and didn't leave copies of anything he was working on for INFA.
Even if he did we probably couldn't use it, as he had very different ideas than the rest of the team (and that's an understatement for the most part).
But yeah...INFA won't be ready indefinitely b/c we're not working on it right now.

Some of us are waiting since a long time, u know.
You DO realize that most of us have been here for a lot longer than "a couple of years", right ? You don't have anything to teach us in term of waiting :p
There are even those that were there when INFR1 was released !
Uhm.. u know, i played freespace since shortly after its release. So.. welcome in the club.
And i STILL have the Lego Ships sitting around here from my Childhood that i did built. If u need inspiration, just tell me and i can send u pictures of the Lego Fleet i got here^^

Wait you guys took down all of the old downloads then didn't finish the upgrade?
-
Huh. INFA should still be available... somewhere. Probably FSMods.net ?
EDIT: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.94 that took me 30 seconds top.
-
For all old Inferno releases, we recommend not using them unless you are using vanilla FS. Older releases have been known to conflict with newer FSO builds and MediaVPs. You have been warned.

Well INFA might be fine since it wasn't designed for FS2 retail and so was run through a debug build of the time.
-
Huh ? Retail had debug builds ? That's new :p
-
Well, it was run through an FS2_Open debug build at the time of its release, I think.

It crashes and the SCP patch doesn't appear to be available. Everything else is rather gone.
e: Not sure what you guys mean by debug build; it tries to break into the debugger on its own then crashes.
e2: Son of the *female dog* that version looks like it works...

INFA wasn't made for retail :p

I read "wasn't" as "was" when you said "it wasn't designed for FS2 retail". My derp :p

When we say "run through a debug build", we do imply "use the debug build to find the bugs, then go fix em".
