FreeSpace 1 + 2 on Sale at GOG.com
GOG.com is running a 50% off promotion on all their Interplay titles until July 4th, including FreeSpace 1 + Silent Threat and FreeSpace 2. Here's what they have to say (with some grammatical corrections... I couldn't help myself):
Quote
...Space tourism is an awesome and burgeoning industry, but the costs are brutally high, and you'll find the safety precautions aren't all that they're cracked up to be. If you're wealthy enough, you can arrange a trip to outer space for roughly $10,000,000, but with no guarantee you'll meet aliens or shoot someone with a laser gun. As a counter-offer we're proposing FreeSpace and FreeSpace 2 for $2.99 each! That's one of the best s-f flight simulator series of all time, and for that price it's a steal. Join your colleagues and fight the evil alien Shivans in the Great War, the biggest conflict known to mankind. The series features not only intense s-f action, epic space battles and many customizable spaceships, but also a gripping story with many plot twists. And if you beat the game you can load plenty of mods for hundreds hours of additional gameplay. Also read the retrospective by Ed Zitron to know more about the series.

In short, if you don't yet (legally... ) own either of these games, you owe it to yourself to grab a copy from GOG.com now! :)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

And even if you do own them, why not pick up an extra copy of both for the total cost of a fast-food meal?  It's always good to have a spare, and it's a nice way of supporting what GOG is doing. :)
