Yeah, the 1.6 patch passed 30-days whiout downloads and has been eleminated(I forgot to refresh it), but you can update to 1.8 from both 1.5c or 1.6.

Is there any reason why i'd be getting the following error when i try to run the FS1 port?  It happens everytime i click on the 'Ready Room'.  I dont have this problem if i try to just run FS2 with the mediavps mod.  I'm assuming that i'm missing a file?

You're not supposed to run the FreeSpace 2 campaign with the FSPort installed.  Run the FSPort campaigns instead.  (You need to select them from the Campaign Room.)

Hi All,

Success story here - never used BitTorrent before but managed to download the 1.5c pack and the 1.8 update overnight, all installed like a dream and up and running now.

Thanks to everyone involved, been looking for a good space sim, guess I found one!

Swings and roundabouts really.

MVEs are more likely to work since the movie code keeps breaking every once in a while and Taylor's MVE code seems relatively bulletproof in comparison. On the other hand MVEs take up a much larger amount of space both when unpacked and in terms of the amount you have to download.

Well, I'm a complete n00b here. I played FS1 as a only about a year ago, when I was in the US Navy. I made it to the last missions before I quit, my computer and all my accessories stolen. I got the game as part of a bonus pack (Descent 3 and Descent:Freespace in a $10 pack). It was fantastic. I LOVED it. I bought FS2 on Ebay, and my comp was stolen right before I received it. I've since bought a new computer, and can't seem to find the game anywhere, until now. THANKS so much for giving people like me a second chance at these great games. I'll be willing to help in development once my skills get better in the programming sense.

And I'm definitely seeding this...

This game is great! The installation of the main game and 1.8 update went smooth. I switched to opengl mode and the game works. I have some small crashing issues, hopefully I can work those out!

:welcome: (You'll have to imagine that's a slash beam getting both of you ;)) Good to hear everyone is enjoying it!

Remember inition, if some of those bugs get too persistent, you might want to mention them, the SCP is a project in development, and the team always appreciate feedback if it can help them make the game more stable on as many systems as possible :)

Next time it does it, I'll copy over the error report, but I remember the original game doing the same thing! I remember playing this awesome game, and beating the last level. For some reason it wouldn't give me the order to jump, so I did it anyway and ended up losing. Never did actually finish the game.

This is (by now) the intended stuff/readme of the 1.9 vercion that will override the 1.5c in the full pack, I also intent to give an 1.8->1.9 patch, but whiout the MVE movies.

Freespace 2 SCP Pack v1.9, by ShivanSpS

What file i need to run for play?:
Use the Shoutcut or the "Launcher.exe" dont try to run any other file directly.

I need to configure something?:
Not too much , the launcher already comes which all needed feactures enabled, the only that you may need to configure is your sound and video tabs. Mod tab and CVS too.

Sound Tab:
The recomended is DirectSound(really is OpenAL), only select EAX or Aureal A3D if your card supports it.

Video Tab:
No matter if you have an ATI or NVIDIA card, the best and recomended is to use OpenGL, only use Direct3D if you have any problem which you OpenGL Support...
The recomended resolution is 1024x768 at 32 bits depth.

Note: Be advised, there is not any AA filter support in OpenGL, but its works if you force it from the graphics crad tools tools.

UPDATE: The new launcher disables D3D, you will run in OpenGL even if you select D3D.

Selecting a CVS Build (executable file):
Press the "Browse" button, then go to your Freespace 2 folder, it should be "C:/games/freespace2", now you have in the list two executable files that come which my pack the CVS vercion is the 3.6.9 RC5, the last stable build that I found.
Well, you see two files: "fs2_open_3_6_9" and "fs2_open_3_6_9_debug" the "debug" is for debug and you only have to select this is something go wrong and someone in the SCP forums ask you to run it. Anyway, You always have to select the file whichout the "debug" of the name in this case "fs2_open_3_6_9", select it and press "Open".

Warning:
Some ATI cards may have some problems which env mapping, if you have textures corruption or problems which the background, disable the env mapping feature.

Notice: Keep your CVS Updated!:
You may find CVS Builds updates in ( http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,97.0.html )

The MOD tab:
This is the most important one, if you do something wrong here, you may miss all new graphics effects...

First of all, why the MOD tab is so important?
As karajorma say in the forums:

"Mods are something slightly different from features. Features are basically engine specific things like whether or not to turn on the specular lighting etc.

Mods on the other hand are which campaign you want to play. Since some mods use completely different ships etc from the original game the mod system allows you to pick where FS2 looks first when you start the game.
The advanced graphics live in the mediavps folder so you should tell the game to look there first  if you want to play the main FS2 campaign.
The FS1 port contains a redirect (in the mod.ini file) which says look in my folder first, then look in mediavps and only then look in the main folder.
Any other mods included should also have the same redirect."

Now, What I need to do which the mod tab?:
-If you wish to play FS2 SCP whitout any of the graphics upgrades, you must select nothing in the mod tab, just press "No MOD".
-If you wish to play which all graphics upgrades, you must select "Mediavps" as a mod.

If you wish to play other campaing than the retail FS2 campaing, this pack come which:
-Fs1_Port v3.0.3 (this is the Freespace 1 MOD, if you select this you may play the retail FS1 campaing.
-DerelictSCP, a very good user/s made campaing, this take place a few years afer the end of FS2 retail campaing.
-Transcend, other user/s made campaing.
-InfernoR1
-Sol: A History

About selecting a campaing in the Campaing room:
Well the Freespace 2 Retail campaing will never going to disapear from your Campaing room, even if your have selected a Fs1_port mod, or Derelict, or anything, but that no mean that you should be able to play which it, so is important to know what campaing you way use when you are playing diferents mods, the Campaing, is not changed automaticly...
Mod/Campaing/s:
MediaVPs and No MOD: "Freespace 2 Campaing" (The retail FS2 campaing)
Fs1_port: "The Main Freespace Campain" (retail FS1), "Silent Threat" (retail campaing expancion pack for fs1), "Awakenings" (a user/s created campaing), "Desteny of Peace" (other user/s created campaing).
DerelictSCP: "Derelict"
Transcend: "Transcend"
InfernoR1: Inferno: GTVA Charter XX
Sol: A History: Sol 2335, Sol 2340, Sol 2357, Sol 2372.

About mv_adveffects.vp:
This is a addicinal effects file, that is not requered for playing, its add some visual effects, but downgrade performance and uses too much memory, and in a plan to give a pack for every system, this file is incluided, but is not used, you may use it if you whant, is your decicion.

How-To Re-activate the mv_adveffects.vp:
This file is located in "MediaVps/mv_adveffects", to allow to be used the only you need to do is to move them from is current folder to the "MediaVPs" folder... if you wish to de-activate them again, just move them again to the "mv_adveffects" folder.

Posible errors:
The only know issue which this pack by now is getteing the "DirectSound cant be inicialised" error... That could be because I have given the OpenAL32.dll file in the Fs2 Folder to remove the "Cant find the Openal32.dll" error, but maybe, the Openal32.dll cant be used well until their has been registered, so to fix this you must install OpenAL... this is also given in the pack, you will find then in the Games folder.

Did you grab the modified FS2 campaign file I posted on another topic hereabouts?

Might be an idea to shove that in the FS1 port folder to stop people making the mistake of trying to run FS2 from there.
