I think I did it...
I think I made a vasudan voice...

Wadya think.

http://www.filelodge.com/files/room19/512545/MeAsVasudan2.wav

Just mess around in goldwalve with, mechanize, keep tempo pitch thing, then the equalizer and bandpass/stop I think. I didn't write down the method.

Re: I think I did it...
Wow, that sounds very impressive, almost like the real thing. If you speed it up a bit, I think it will be just about perfect.

Sounds awesome, seems to get a bit overkill though on the old bass(?).
What is being said originally?

Re: I think I did it...
Problem is, I can't remember how I did it.  :(

But I know that I recorded my self, did a noise reduction, then mechanized it by 10, then raised it's pitch to 125. I did some stuff there then I decreased it's pitch by either not doing a keep tempo thing and shifting it back to it's normal tempo using timewarp or just using the preserve tempo option in the pitch filter.

Then I did some stuff with low/highpass filter, equalizer and bandpass filter. I know I did used that stuff but I can't remember what settings and how many times I used them.

I gave you guys the basis for the method. Perhaps some of you could play around with it in goldwave until you figure out exactly what to do.

Would be appreciated.

Re: I think I did it...
That's pretty good.  Would be interesting if we could take a recording of the actual text for what the message is supposed to be, then reverse it, then apply your filtering routine and see what it sounds like.  If its good, it would be an easy way to make sure that the length of the vasudan and translated messages are equal.

Re: I think I did it...
Excellent work!

See if you can recreate it.  I'm sure campaign designers would love to have something besides the :v:-supplied voice, which everyone can recognize by now. ;)

Re: I think I did it...
Alright. I think I figured it out.

You have to be using goldwave to do this.

Make a new sound and set it's hz to 11025. I know, low quality, but the effect only works in 11025 and all the voice files in freespace are at this level of quality.

Record yourself and mechanize it by ten. Then extend it's pitch to 120 and preserve tempo. You have to do this in order to get the right distortion of the sound.

Then lower it's pitch to 60% without preserving tempo. Before you do that though, look at the bottom of goldwave and it should tell you the length of the sound. Remember that. After you do the pitch thing, go to timewarp and click the length option and similarity. Type in that number I told you to remember.

Next, go to the euqalizer and put in something that looks like this:

After that you can either play around with the equalizer again or bandpass/stop.

I tried this a while back. It sounded quite good actually. Though I sound a bit weird when put through Vasudan translator.

I think I figured out how to get it to work in higher quality sound files. Just mechanize it more. I record thing in 96000 hz and mechanize it by 100. In pitch I also set the fft filter to 13 and then do the rest exactly the way I said above.

I remember cleaning up some Vasudan speech, and although what was being said seemed to be completely made up, the enunciation and vowel-soundings were very Polish/Russian in style, thought that info might help with making these ;)

Just thought I would add this to the thread, I got it from V themselves :)

Quote
The Vasudan "language" was jointly created by [censored by request] and me. I
believe it was simply gabled made up stuff mixed with a bit of Latin.

Somewhere on my archives are all the original takes. That was [censored]
"speaking" and I think I basically pitch shifted everything keeping
durations the same and then ran it through a vocoder using garbled noise as
the carrier, which collectively gave it an almost demonic raspy effect. We
messed around with post effects too like reverse delays but I think it came
out too crazy... didn't want to upstage the Shivans, right?

But the cool thing was he was literally reading/translating from a script. I
know we had the whole dialect documented and there was literal meaning
behind all of the various phrases and syllables.

Maybe I'm reading into this a bit much... but "upstage the Shivans" - I wonder if they were planning on giving the Shivans speech via Bosch's ETAC device for a potential FS3? :)

  • I'm just sitting in my Cave.
i would think so, why else would they say upstaging unless the shivans would talk.
