As most of you already know, Halo 2 is going to be released for PC, via (a nasty, but not unexpected ploy) Vista. However, I have just read PCGamer's look at Vista and Halo 2 and
OMGWTFBBQFS2KICK@$$MJOLNIRARMORMARKVIJOHN!!&
spartan will entertain any questions one might have technically, visually, grammatically, over Halo 2.
-
How about you just post some ****ing link to this story?
On a different note, I thank FireFox for pointing out to me how to spell "****" properly when I misspell it in my posting rage for having this kind of a thread brought to my eyes.
Now I have to do your job for you and actually locate a link to the story.
http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=halo2vistaannounce
-
if you want to (and if it's legal?), do you want me to scan in the story in the Mag?
and that only talks about Vista, not about what the difference betweeen Halo 2 Xbox, and Halo 2 PC is like ;7
PCGamer does
-
WOW! THAT'S AWESOME!! Oh, wait, no it isn't.
-
If all of us already know... why are you informing us?
-
There's a fine line between excited, and TOO excited.
-
I'm beginning to wonder if spartan and dekker are the same person, just different personalities in the same head...
 :eek2:  :wtf:
-
It's not on XP?
:sigh:
It's just that, I have this rule of my own in that I do not play FPS games on a console. PC is still more precise IMO, even if you don't have the privilege of a laser-based mouse.
Halo is one of the universes I have yet to visit. Not sure if I want to though... I'm still on the MW side of things despite my quickly-fading interest in that series...
-

See what you've done now?
Deepblue thinks you're over-enthusiastic for Halo. Deepblue.

Personally, I don't think you're missing much. On the plus side, I guess they might do a decent conversion this time - Halo (1) was pants.
-
That makes me lucky for not buying the original Halo then.
I've got a friend who's a so-so fan of Halo. Sometimes I don't even understand what the jack he talks about, let alone the videos he shows me sometimes... tohoho...
Point taken. :)
-
Halo 2 for PC, wow, ididn't expect that to happen at all, i am so surprised.............. :blah:
-
Hmmm. So now I have to pirate Vista as well as Halo 2? Oh well.
-
I played it a year ago.
On a 100 dollar Xbox.
Go figure ;)
-
Halo was great for PC. I still play multiplayer (on my 56k :( ) and there's quite a few servers. There's only one problem I see with Halo, one problem PCGamer also found:
The gameplay is too constricted.
UT2004, you've got double jumping, wall jumping, and low gravity maps. Battlefront II has rolling, as do many other games. Halo, you can only jump once (albeit fairly high) and it feels VERY restricted.
That's my only querk. Halo 2 is a little looser, and you get double-fisted pleasure...
-
Go to Prague, or the Banana bar in amsterdam.....................
*snaps back to the game forum*(
sorry about that, at the time of Halo one, no =one really cared about dodges and stuff, Halo 3 by all rights of current genre evolution, should have wall hugging, rope hangin, split jumping, cardboard box wielding, corpse hiding, costume changing stealth while tap dancing naked on a hard boiled egg..........
Maybe not that last one, but you understand.
-
Dekker.......wow, just wow.
But yea, Halo 2 is a lot looser than Halo, which is a good thing considering everything you have to blow up in Halo 2 compared to Halo...
-
Mebbe in Halo 3 you'll finally get control of SGT Johnson and the spider'o'doom.....
-
:)
-
:)
-
Maybe in Halo 3 they'll make a game that's not derivitave of a PC game I played five years ago.
Then again, maybe not.
Halo series = overrated. It's a PC shooter on a console.
-
Literally, Bungie went off from the PC initial release, you all know thi sright, obviously you do
All shooters are PC based, the PC spawned the genre, Albeit, Goldeney is the best evAH, ok mebbe Perfect dark, Is there any difference betwixt PC and Concole shooters other than input device and system capability?
I mean in the case of dual platform titles like Halo 2.
-

Oh. My. God.
Yes. Yes we do.
-
(http://media.urbandictionary.com/image/large/orly-35971.jpg)
So...Any difference to a dual platform game?
-
I thought it ws a quite good shooter, for "just a shooter."
I enjoyed coop and XBL versus immensely. Derivitave or not, it had good production value, a decent story, and good voice acting, along with addictive shooter gameplay. I play it more than I play any of my "PC Shooters" from five years ago.
-
I love co-op, not enough games have off-line multi now, and i blame friKKin x-box live.......
-
Halo did though ;)
I actually blame the developers, not Live. Quake 4 should have had split screen multi, if Gears can do it, and Splinter Cell can do it, and CoD can do it, makes me wonder why the Quake engine can't.
They should have split screen AND online, and be able to to it at the same time ala Halo2 and Gears and CoD3.
Gears, frankly, should define the way multi gets handled on Xbox games., with one exception, make it capable of 4 player like Haloe and CoD.
Anyway, Halo2, if you want it, but an xbox, you can get them basically new for 100 bucks, and you don;t have to have Vista, and you don;t have to break any laws, and you might end up with finding other bargain bin games you like that you can't play on the PC.
Or keep being ignorant of the joy of it all, I guess that's your choice too :)
-
why would anyone get excited about a re-release of a game that's what, 2, 3 years old ? Especially given what they did with the last one.....(this from someone who quite likes Halo too)
-
I'm simply interested in the multiplayer...my wish for Halo 2 to come out for PC came only after playing splitscreen.
even then its not all great...emasculated pistol and shotgun, anyone?
-
will this be one of the first games for PC that allows dual-wielding?
-
will this be one of the first games for PC that allows dual-wielding?
My guess is no.
Can't back it up atm.
-
will this be one of the first games for PC that allows dual-wielding?
In NWN I dual-wield longswords.
-
Soldier of Fortune 2 had it. Did quite well with it too, IIRC.
-
SoF2 was ok, I'm sure that Goldeneye had it way back when also. And Perfect dark.
-
Fear does it, but the guns are not really independent.
-
Dual-wielding as in akimbo guns?
I remember two Half-Life mods doing that... the old version of Firearms (twin M10's wahahaha) and the old Wasteland HL... but Wasteland's one was a bit cumbersome to use (quite a few guns to choose from when forming akimbo setups, quickest way was to use the gun selection menu anyway...)
SOF2... I miss it... but the first level already lags bad with this computer... :sigh: Insane gore for the win. :D <--- dastardly evil grin
-
will this be one of the first games for PC that allows dual-wielding?
*Laughs at the overwhelming naiveté of that statement*
-
"Be proud, Mister Wu"
And I would be surprised if THAT was the first. nickel to the first person to name the game, and the character, without Googling ;)
-

MDKs' dog?
-
Negative.
Though I forgot about MDK's dog... Funny stuff...
-edit-
Mef got it in the other thread. Its Lo Wang, from Shadow Warrior.
When he picks up the second Uzi, he always says "Be proud, Mister Wu!"
Another fun quote I find myself spouting in Halo:
"Sticky Bomb likes Mister Stupid!"
Trash talking from a 10 year old video game is always fun for hte kids on XBL ;)
-
Was MDK the one with the bloke who had a sniper-rifle for a head? Cause that was a damn cool game, if it wasn't for the fact that the CD came with a damn virus on it...
-
Kurt Hectic, He was amazingly nimble........
-
MDK was a blast to play.
-
Actually, True Crime had dual-wielding. . .sorta. You could pick up two guns and use them both, but not independantly with the mouse buttons....
-
Doom 2 can be modded for dual weapons quite easily actually. :p
-
Oops, we answered the "first" in the other thread.
Shadow Warrior, 3d Realms. Beat GoldenEye by 3 months in 1997 :)
-
Unreal Tournament also had a mod for dual-wielding.
-
Hmm. I'm sure Rise of the Triad (1994) had some dual wielding in, although I doubt whether the guns were independently controllable. Anything earlier than that?
-
Ok, so I think we've sufficiently mutilated spartan's comment. Anything else to talk about? :D
Oh,yea, I hope to God that they improve the PC netcode for Halo 2. Halo 1 had lag even on a LAN.
-
What's all this nonsense about the guns being independently controllable anyway. I can't imagine a scheme for even doing that which would not be horribly complicated and unwieldy anyway. Unless you mean being able to select them independently, which while being sort of novel really isn't all that effective, or all that new. You could do that (albeit with limitations) all the way back in Goldeneye.
-
Like Red Faction II (2002) ?, the pistol at least supported dual-wielding and could be fired independently, with either mouse/keyboard/controller/etc.
-

Mouse Button 1: Left Gun, Mouse Button 2: Right Gun?
-
Unreal Tournament also had a mod for dual-wielding.
The original Unreal also allowed dual-wielded pistols. Not independant firing ...but alternate firing resulted in gangsta-style sideways shooting, biatch!
-
Hmmm. So now I have to pirate Vista as well as Halo 2? Oh well.

Wow. So much arguing I just had to join up to quell it. :wtf:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akimbo_%28firearms%29
Rise of the Triad and Marathon, both released on December 21, 1994, were the earliest first-person shooters to integrate akimbo pistols. In Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.², this tactic has been developed further, now allowing the player to wield two different weapons at once, firing each one independently.
Wikipedia.. more useless info than you can include in a single comment.
You may now commence the HLP beam bombardment... :nervous: :shaking:

Hah. I knew that without resorting to wankipedia :p well, apart from the Marathon bit.

The first time I heard about a game called Halo I was like: OMGWTFIMUSTBUYTHIS!!!111
But then ******* Microsoft bought Bungie and the game was produced for the XBOX, as it finally came out for PC in 2003 it was still an entertaining game. It just wasn't the OMGWTF feeling anymore, Halo was outdatet...
And now Halo 2 should come out for Windows? No wait... for Windows 'Vista'! (Oh look Halo2 for PC, BUY VISTA YOU SILLY CONSUMENT! MWAHAHAHAHA)
Three years after it was released for XBOX, you know what? It will be outdatet too.
There are far better games in productions than Halo2 such as CRYSIS or HAZE or whatever...
-
Halo's indoor gameplay was very poor. One time, there was this room full of two or three hunters, except I just walked right past them in a hallway just outside the room. I mean, did Bungie actually expect us to bother with them?
-
What does everyone have against halo? I played the first one on PC, and I loved it. Is there something I'm missing here?
-
I've got nothing against it. In fact, I probably had more fun playing multiplayer on PC than I did on Xbox.
-

Yea, considering how after that part you have to fight 5 spec-ops elites. If you don't kill the hunters before you reach the security panel (Mission 3: The Silent Cartographer) you have to fight them AND the Hunters. Bungie designed Halo so that intelligent players that watch what's going on can go the easiest way around the Covenant. Those that aren't so observant end up fighting flood after flood of Flood. That's why I liked Halo. There are so many ways to go through the campaign. You could quickly jog through mission after mission ignoring the Flood and the Covenant, or you could sit tight and kill every last Covenant. It's up to you.

I think my favorite "trick" was to drop about 3 stories in the SC basement area onto an overshield. Because I land on the overshield, I do not die. :)

never once did I find myself even remotly impressed by halos gameplay
cnc renegade on the other hand, impressed me, quake 2, back in the day, impressed me, way back in the day quake, the original, shareware quake impressed me
halo was just... mehtacular
-
Given that you can now get an Xbox with Halo 2 and 3 other games from Argos for about £50, you'd be an idiot to get Vista for it anyways...... and in any case, like Halo 1 was, it'll be hopelessly surpassed by the newest games on the market when it arrives.
-
I actually finished Halo on legendary for the first time last week. I'd always get wasted on the first tower of Halo and then get bored of it. Not this time. Pistol & Needler defeat all. With help from the odd shotgun & rocket.

seriously, and at the danger of sounding like a fan boy, how can you compaire Halo to CnC Renegade ? Renegade was so poor it's not even funny (that's XBox Halo when it was new, not the obsolete PC port).

Halo 2 PC is meant for those PC Gamers that are already upgrading to Vista, have a bank account set up to buy Halo 2.....wait...no, it's just for those of us who are buying Vista, and have been waiting for Halo 2 to come out for PC for the last 3 years.

obsolescence doesn't matter, I am talking about gameplay, not graphics, gameplay
I gesture vaguely at Nethack, Rogue and ADOM to support that point

who mentioned graphics ? but if you wanna try it Renegade doesn't even compaire. And as for gameplay, Renegade was solid ( I still play it occassionaly) but completley unremarkable. And Havoc was so the "generic all muscle no brain" to almost be a parody.
what's that about Nethack, Rogue and ADOM BTW ?
-
they are demonstrations of completly obsolete games that are intensly fun, and always will be
-
ADOM is alright, but the grinding is tedious.
-
I dunno, you can get to level 13 in less than five minutes pretty easily with most classes
-
the graphics look pretty old to be honest, they have some added flash but nothing that can't be handled by an X800 GTO or even a 9800pro if the screenshots are any indication..... I liked Halo 2 and it was a step up compared to Halo which was amazing for it's day but neither have translated well to PC because PC First Person Shooters have improved so much by the time Microsoft gets around to releasing the Halo editions for PC.
and as a final rant..... :mad2: :hopping: Halo 2 is a deliberate marketing ploy by MS along with making DX10 Vista only they are siimply forcing to make the move to their next crappy OS that will take 3 years just to become stable and established enough for universal support.
so in the end I will not upgrade to Vista until SP1 or even SP2 and I won't bother with Halo 2 1 because I already finnished it on my Xbox numerous times and also because it's Vista only.
-
You know someone will make a crack for it that will allow it to run on Windows XP...

Speak for yourself. It's been stated several times already that only the most die-hard Halo fanbois will upgrade to Vista 'soley' for Halo 2, and even then it's rather pointless as said fanbois will much prefer to play it on their consoles. Microsoft isn't 'forcing' anyone to do anything, it's just a play to get a bit more cash out of the Halo license during the lull between sequels.
-

if you had a wider view on things you might understand far better.
Halo 2 will be Vista only, Halo 2 an outdated Xbox game that was compatible with the current operating systems will get launched as Vista only, a yet unreleased un-established in the marketplace future OS.........ppl will look into it, many won't play it, others will, very few will upgrade their system solely to play it but the message is clear and will stick long after Halo 2 for PC fades into obscurity.
Microsofts message to all but the too dim to see it: Vista is the only future gaming platform in town so regardless of whether or not consumers want to upgrade to Vista, regardless of whether or not gamers are reluctant to upgrade to Vista, if you want to do any kind of future gaming you are being forced to upgrade to Vista, they've done this by restricting DX10 so if you want to take advantage of any future features in games you are being forced to upgrade to Vista. as well as by making the new launch titles Vista only whether they need be or not.
as for the 2nd part don't profess knowledge when you have none, the screenshots show it's obvious Microsoft isn't upgrading Halo 2 visually aside form tweaks so if Microsoft wanted to make alot of money off Halo 2 for PC why would they restrict it to an Operating system that isn't released yet?
-

WRONG! They are completely going over Halo 2s visual effects. Bungie told PCG that they had to go back and re-work deleted textures that the Xbox couldn't run, but Vista will. They're also increasing the dpi by at least 200. Also, PCG noted that in there's rendered lights and shadows IN THE BACKGROUND!. That's a little more than a tweak. Plus, (I don't know if this is confirmed) I think they're going to be releasing more maps like they did for Halo PC.
They're re-working the whole game, rather than just taking the game and sticking it onto a PC (like they did with Halo: Combat Evolved). Finally, I'm sure there'll be mod support (like there was for Halo PC).
[/rant]
-
I do hope you're right. That was my own pet peev with Halo. I had heard about it on the XBox and was really looking forward to playing it on the PC when it came out - but it really felt like a console game... and consoles games don't really belong on PCs.
-
Yea, it did feel a lot like a console game, but it was Halo so.....
-
*Snip*

Whoops, my bad. Inadvertantly skipped the bolded part which drastically changes what you were trying to convey. I thought you were implying that by making Halo 2 Vista-exclusive, they were 'forcing' people to upgrade. As you can see, my point of view - while erroneous - still holds merit.
Anyway, yeah, I agree with you in most respects. But just a tip; next time, try coming off a little less up yourself. You'll find that you get the message across far easier and you don't sound like an asshat whilst doing so. Just something to keep in mind. :)
-
Just wondering...
mine is, >surprise!< for Halo, jr2 and Halo CE is, well, jr2
:D
-
Do we really need yet another Halo thread?
-
Not really. Merging with the other one.
-
Not really. Merging with the other one.
So that's where it went... ehm, kj assimilated me. Oh, well.
-
CG/live action commercial for Halo 3 airs today between 5:50 and 6:30 P.M. PST on SportsCenter.
While it sucks we don't get to see the actual game (Bungie probably feels it's not wise to show pre-alpha graphics to the general public), it's going to have some nice plot hints!
-

marketing speak similiar in quality to the supposedly "dramatic visual improvements over Halo offered by Halo 2" stated by Bungie just prior to Halo 2's release...... and nothing compelling that would require the use of DX10 or necessitate Vista as a requirement.
p.s. it's not much more than a tweak if that, and additional maps are nothing significant.... "re-working the whole game" is quite an overstatement..... including textures that went un-used with Xbox isn't a rework nor are improved shadow support.
all games are designed with many factors in mind, 1 being that a certain amount of power is dedicated for each frame or board Gabe Newell called it a bank, once a scene is filled to max stuff gets deleted, re-including what was already their isn't a rework it's a tweak and likely a very minor one.
But just a tip; next time, try coming off a little less up yourself. You'll find that you get the message across far easier and you don't sound like an asshat whilst doing so.
the message apparently made it across and I've little interest in opinion only merit.
::) if that makes me "up myself" I'm ok with it, "just a tip" if you believe your special then it'd be best not to play the hypocrite........"just something to keep in mind."
