Allright, I aint much of a scholar on Shivans, but tell me, where do you think the Shavans come from? Was it just evolition, or was it an awful experiment by the ancients gone wrong? I go for the latter, how else would an insect like society grow a cannon for an arm?

Oh geez, we have two thunders and now we have two black aces. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
This post serves no other purpose. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Edit: Ok, dark ace, black ace... still pretty close. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Wherever they came from it was definately NOT the ancients. If you remember the cutscenes from FS1 correctly it was specifically stated that the Ancients encountered the Shivans in the same manner that they had encountered many other races.
Whatever they are and wherever they came from it was definately external to the Ancients.

I had this really massive acid trip one day... and thensome joker plugged me into a Neural Image Projector and made a Shivan. True story.

Personally, I still like to hold to the theory that the actual Shivans are like us humans, fragile and whatever, but the Shivans that we see are actually suits. What if an alien saw an astronaut, complete with white space suit and EMU? They'd probably think we were constructed too... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
But when you did an autopsy on the astronaut you`d soon figure out that it was just a suit.
The GTA did capture shivan ships and almost certainly captured shivans (dead or alive). The only way they could be in bio suits is if the GTVA knows it but hasn`t released that fact.

That is classified above your clearance, pilot...

Yeah, but we just know it's not: Volition themselves told us that what we saw were actual shivans and they really looked the way they are. So...
For where they come from... They come from very far I bet (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I believe that he is Dark Force(Dark_4ce... 4=fource Dark Fource (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) )
Back on topic: I hold the theory that they are the Cosmic destroyers (and also the great perservers), so they maybe came from cosmos itself, or they came from another place... they just act too weird to be some planet like species... they seem to the personification of the Universe.... well that's my humble (and crazy...) opinion (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Unless they transformed their home planets into a spaceship (i.e. slap on some bloody great engines). (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/devil.gif)

Cosmic garbage disposal? Yeah I can see that, much like that Stephen King Mini series where that airplane flies through a tear in time and they land in a stranded airfield. Then from nowhere come these flying cannonballs with teeth, chewing up all the past and useless stuff.

Yeh... the first FreesSpace is apparently about how they are some kinda race assigned to punishing those who leave their chosen role in space (at least I gather fron the Reference Bible). The second is devoted to- "hey, they ain't so tough after all". 100 Sathanases v. a Hecate is nothing compared to the difference between, say, an FS1 Orion and the Lucifer.

You mean Centerpoint? I think I know what you're getting at, but wasn't that some sort of interdiction field generator? Been a LONG time since I read those books.

Try getting up at 7 in the morning to go to Uni - then having your lecture cancelled (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/devil.gif)

That ain't scary, try getting up 4:00 am in the morning to go to work and coming home around 11:00 pm and only having another 5 hours of sleep before work again. Thank god I quit that job.

My thought is this...
They live inside some sort of nebula environment because that is the most suitable environment for them. Notice in FS2 that they mostly gathred in nebulas. They use the sun to blow up the knossos devices that lead to their homeworld or whatever. In my book of theories.

Its also got a canon capable of hitting targets hundreds, if not thousands, of lightyears away nearly instantaneously. Its even capable of causing stars to go supernova. (source: "Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse, part of the New Jedi Order series of novels.)

Yeh, that's an idea I suppose - but then again, in FS1, we didn't have nebulae. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Pnaaaag?
What I don't get, if the Shivans were just afraid of aliens:
1. why do they keep attacking everyone else?
2. why are they still afraid after being the only known species with the ability to blow up planets, stars, etc.? They're obviously the big kids on the block.
I think the idea advanced by the Ancients monologue is supposed to be the canon one, although humans could also just be in season every 32 years...
