Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
This doesn't count as a feature.  :doubt:

Installer now includes multi missions and voice files.

why would an SCP error be considered as news? :wtf: *smacks Cobra*It's a feature.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Downloaded again, ran again, and it brings up more errors that say the following : -

Freespace Open  3.6.9 Macintosh <Universal Binary> Executables
      Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
                        At java.lang.void<unknown><unknown source>
                        At java.lang.void<unknown><unknown source>
                        At java.lang.void<unknown><unknown source>
                        At java.lang.void<unknown><unknown source>

From then, it just stops.

I think that the installer thinks im running a macintosh ?  :wtf:

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Ah, VC, you should prolly post that here:
FreeSpace Conversion
Most likely under the sub-topic "FreeSpace Port 3.0.4 released!"

IMO, that should be called "FreeSpace Port" not "FreeSpace Conversion", as the hosted project is not called "FreeSpace Conversion"... but whatever.

;)

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Fixed.....sorry bout that. Simply had to enable jpg/tga textures.

But i'm still having problems with OpenGL. Some mods (Transcend for instance) -NEED- you to run OpenGL. I cant for some reason. Whenever i open into the main hall, past the 'select pilot' screen, the screen starts flickering like mad and i cant do anything, except CTRL+ALT+DELETE and close the damn thing.

Anyone else had this problem ? If so, how is it fixed? Help is greatly appreciated.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Find out what type of graphics card your system has:
Right-click on "My Computer" and hit "Properties" OR
Open "System" from the "Control Panel" OR
hold down your "Win" key and press the "Pause|Break" key.

This will open the "System Properties" box.

Click the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button.

Click the "+" sign next to "Display adapters"
-look what it says, for example, see the attached pic.
eg, mine is an Nvidia GeForce 6200

Now, search Google for "[your manufacturer] homepage" or, if it's
ATI: http://ati.amd.com/
Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/
Once you've found your graphics card's manufacturer page, look for a link to downloading drivers, usually under either "Drivers" or "Support" or, if it's
ATI: http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Specify your model when looking for the drivers and get the latest edition.
This might help your problem.  -I hope it does, anyways :D
:)

PS Oh, right... before I forget.  With Nvidia drivers, you must uninstall your old drivers first.  Right-click on your card from the "Device Manager" and select "Uninstall".  See second picture.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I did notice the installer is still downloading both the .mve files and the .ogg files.  You don't need both, right?  Might save some bandwidth by taking one out :)

No, you don't need both. That's why they're optional. It allows for user preference.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Oh, all right.  When I installed it, it said to just say "yes to all" to install everything the first time, but if you were just installing certain components I see how that'd be useful.  My bad.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I am running 3.6.9 and everything is good. I like that the installer automatically updates things. I haven't tried it. I'd like to. Is it hard to setup? How do I know which version to use? If I don't run mods yet, do I need it? Thanks

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
hello

i run the installer with java on a linux-system... therefore i had no choice to select some options...
so the installation runs and runs since 10:00 today =(

at the moment the installer got 2.2 GB - how much till the installer is complete?

and can I close the installer before the installation is finished to start it tomorrow again?
(so checked the installer the downloaded file and start tomorrow with the next new one, or will the installer install the temporary downloaded files again?)

I have to go to bed, now  :sigh:

(please excuse the bad english - i am no native speeker, i am german and write english is a little bid difficulty)

No. However, if you haven't used it before, it will run for quite a bit.

How do I know which version to use?
There's only one version. Where are you getting the idea that there are multiple versions?

If I don't run mods yet, do I need it?
Huh?

i run the installer with java on a linux-system... therefore i had no choice to select some options...
This makes no sense. The GUI should show up on all systems.

at the moment the installer got 2.2 GB - how much till the installer is complete?
If you selected "Yes to all", then ~3GB total.

and can I close the installer before the installation is finished to start it tomorrow again?
(so checked the installer the downloaded file and start tomorrow with the next new one, or will the installer install the temporary downloaded files again?)

Sort of. You can do that, but it will take longer than if you simply left it running, as it needs to check the validity of the already-present files.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
the only question i got, was the installation-folder... nothing else :/

i run the .jar with sun-java 1.5 from the Ubuntu-GUI.
a gray box appeare, with the question for the installation-folder, after setting up this i got two buttons start and abort

there are no other questions, like in the windows-version on windows xp
i wondered myself as i start the installation on Linux(Ubuntu)

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Sorry for my ignorance. Last time I tried the Installer I had a bad time with .jar files and such. Now it looks like you have 2 options. Can I avoid the .jar stuff with the first option? I thought Homesick, Transcend were mods? I didn't know. What are they? Can I choose what I want?

Ah. Yes, you can download the zipped windows executable and it will be a .exe. No .jar problems.

Yes, you can choose what you want. When you run it, give it your freespace directory, then select "All Features" and "Let me choose for each one."

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I have the zip file downloaded to my desktop. I tried to open the Installer.exe, and it flashes for a split second, then nothing. I extracted the file to my FS2 file, and I get the same thing. There are alot of files listed under the Installer.exe file in Winzip. Do I choose the top one, the installer exe. and run it? It didn't work.- now what did I do wrong?
