I've heard people talking about it and heard it's bigger than the Gigas class.
Also, is there a Terran juggernaut called the Icanus? There were some tech room references to it, and I found a huge terran-looking ship in the .vp, and I was wondering if that was it.

The Icanus is the largest EA ship.
I don't think I have any online pics of the Gargant right now. It's kind of a big Sathanas looking thing. 37.8km long with 110 turrets.

It's also near invulnerable to every weapon in the modpack, with only the Icanus main cannon able to scratch it.

that's why it is designated Shivan Hive Gargant...
it looks really massive to me... the Gigas is also very big (long) but since it's tiny it does not appear to be as threat as Sathanas... that's why I like Gargant... it's simply like Lindos... it looks big although the are bigger ships... but Gargant does not only appear to be big... it really is...

The Gigas is 22km long, 91 turrets and has the offensive power of at least 10 Armitayas, or 15 Saths.
You should be more afraid of the Gigas than Gargant, as you'll have to deal with the Gigas directly...

Of course... but for me the Sathanas/Gargant looks scarier than Gigas... it's just my opinion...as they seem to be more content...

So how have you seen the Gangant? Are you part of the team, or do you just have inside information?

Gargant in a nutshell:
Take a Sathanas, increase it size 10x, increase length by 3x. Cover it with beam cannons the size of crusiers and stick a bigger subspace weapon on the front...viola, the Gargant.
If you look at the publicity shots on the credits screen of R1, there is a render called "Unstoppable". The large Shivan ship in the centre is the Gargant.

Actually take a Gigas Type 1, slice off the bottom, rotate it and mirror it, rescale, and you get a Gargant.
Yeah that render by Setekh is it, that's an older version though with less turrets.

Huh? What's happened to the Gigas. It looks so wierd. So does the Icanus for that matter. Then again i've never seen them in HTL before, so maybe its just the light.
What program is that BTW? Modelveiw?

Both are newer models to the R1 variants. The Gigas is quite different, with some changes to the Icanus.

Unless you want to keep it a mystery, could we see a brighter pic of the new Gigas model? It just doesn't look right in that pic, and knowing the godlike modeling skill the team has, i'm guessing its the pic not doing it true justice.

We haven't got any modelers anymore, haven't had any for over a year.

I'd hate to say it, but i don't really like the look of the new Gigas. It looks really basic compared to the Icanus. Maybe its just the camera positions.

Well it is only 814 polygons, the Icanus is a lot higher than that.

There's no official capacity numbers for either ship. But a lot.
The Gigas has 2 fighterbays.

Is 841 the final polycount for the Gigas? I'm not saying that the pic looks outdated (in fact, that thing's looking very nice :)), but it is unusual for a capital ship to have such a low polycount, much less one as big as this. Was that just a style decision, or is it because you haven't had a modeler to go back over it?

841 is the polycount for the basic hull. Which falls under the retail limit of 850. The polycount for lod0 with all turrets and other bits is 2248 polygons. The Icanus is 5543 polygons total for lod0.

It has different stats to the normal one. It's required for mission 5.

The shape of the Gigas is fine, it's the tiling of the textures that lets the model down. It's most apparent on the 'wings' that stretch downwards.

The Gigas is heavily tiled as you'll be flying very close to it, and the tiling prevents the textures from looking bad.

A lot of tech descriptions are inaccurate/old and some are missing for newer ships.

Tiling makes sense if there's no one to make a detailed model. :yes:
So is that your model Woomeister, or an older one? Because I don't see how you'd have the time to both make ships and organise the mod. :shaking:

That Gigas? I made that not long after R1 as I wasn't satisfied with the R1 version, which also has several bugs in it.
I still make the occasional model, such as the new Arcas, extensions and the new Shivan cruisers, however it's very rare for me to make models now.
I also don't do HTL models. I don't have the time for those.
I maintain the modpack, make any new cb anis that are needed, Test and fix bugs. compile the new INF Builds, update/fix any models when required, make new ones now and then, and even work on some of the missions.

I really don't like the way the Gigas looks, I thought by the way it was talked about, it would strike fear into whoever saw it, and it's shape really cuts that out quick.
However the Icanus looks like a really cool ship.;)
