Title: E3 2013
Post by: Scourge of Ages on June 10, 2013, 05:18:06 pm
Considering there's at least one thread (two if you count the Witcher 3) about games revealed/announced at E3 today, perhaps a single all-encompassing thread is in order. Since there seems to be quite a few noteworthy things that will probably pop up.

Notably: Mirror's Edge 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6PXba8X6N8&list=WL1E8BF16C3CEBEECD)

Watching the (completely ****ty) Ubisoft event.

Looks like Assassin's Creed is moving the protagonist one step closer to becoming a ninja-pirate-zombie-robot.

::EDIT::

And apparently a ballad about drug addiction (including heroin) fits the pirate's life theme.

They were quite specific about hypodermic needles.

Does Ubisoft ever actually do a non-****ty E3 event, though?

Figures. Xbone presentation bombed. Only thing they showed I was remotely interested in is also coming to PC.

The only thing out of Ubisoft even remotely worth consideration was The Division.

BUT:
1. It's a console exclusive, apparently. (Destructoid)
2. Maintaining the experience presented will depend on players not being assholes (see: players).
3. I predict that when people are chatting about their day jobs / goofing around in this post/apocalyptic setting the verisimilitude of the whole thing will suffer.

There's a neat-looking EA Mech thing, but other than that, mostly.

I don't think they do. (https://www.google.com/search?q=titanfall+pc&rlz=1C1ASUM_enUS471US471&oq=titanfall+pc&aqs=chrome.0.57j62l3.1074j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) What you're probably seeing is console exclusivity.

I am not sure if I should be excited about Battlefront 2142, on one hand: I'd love a new battlefront, on the other: It's DICE.

 DICE = Frostbite = No Dx9 Support = I can't play = I have to buy a whole new PC just to play = F.T.S.

Besides, EA will make the game turn into Star Wars: Micro-transactions. The last thing I want is another money/time sink to play (I am having a hard time getting over STO already.)

Indeed.. wow. It was one thing when speculation was that Sony would follow suit of some of MS's bad decisions since people were thinking it was a publisher led innitiative. (The DRM stuff) Seems that's not the case. I'm left wondering what MS was is thinking...

To clarify for the thread... Xbone is waaaaaaaaay too expensive ($499) with all that DRM. Sony is at a decent price ($399) with no DRM. Both consoles targeting the same market (assuming Xbone is still targeting gamers at this point).

Yes, a very good press conference.

I think the Mad Max trailer was a hint... why to use one bullet if you can use a buggy to flatten Microsoft...

I was throughoutly impressed with Sony. Maybe I set the bar very low or expected things to be over fairly quickly but it just kept going and going and more really interesting titles being announced. I have a Xbox 360 (Conveniently RROD'd on me a few days back, will be a month or so till that's repaired) but I definitely am not going to buy a Xbox One, glad to see I won't be missing out on a lot of titles as aside from Halo 5 I didn't see any exclusive that could be considered a 'buy on sight' thing, and I don't mind passing that. Not even sure if I'll get a PS4 but at least it'll be a good candidate.

I'm very curious how Microsoft will respond, they better bring out the biggest PR guns and find a way to spin that they came to reason and remove the DRM and other restrictions. Still, companies don't like to change their ways.

Also, I really expected Sony to follow suit with Microsoft, just be one step less intrusive, the 'good cop-bad cop' or 'three steps forward, two steps back' idea of forcing stuff onto customers, good to see they don't appear to be playing that game.

The only thing I do not like about the PS4 (and I am getting one, no doubt about that) is that it's gonna cost 399 Euros as well (Which, given current exchange rates, is equivalent to 528 USD).

Uhm. First DX10 GPU's were released about 7 years ago. I don't think you have any room to complain if DX9 is no longer supported. It's a good thing.

Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U, and (surprisingly) Nintendo Land were fun enough for me already. Not to mention the handy Netflix/Amazon Prime Instant Video tacked on. But then.. the only consoles I buy are Nintendo ones... love me some Zelda and Metroid. As long as those games are fun and exclusive to Nintendo boxes, I'll probably be purchasing them.

Okay, so here's new BF4 gameplay trailer. http://youtu.be/IEZhbV9s1Ag

Now I don't really care about BF franchise much, but remember that Dragon Age and Mass Effect games will be using same Frostbite engine as BF4. So I watched the trailer and couldn't help but drool thinking we'll get DA and ME on same technical grounds.

And without further ado, Dragon Age trailer. http://youtu.be/rh8v3Et4tGE

There's been some rumors about DA possibly having multiplayer too, something like ME3 did. If true, I might end up wasting hundreds of hours playing it.

From what I've read, the Plus subscription grants you free games as well as good deals. Long-term it should pay itself back if you make use of the bonuses it has.

Less than 5 bucks a month isn't much.

Yeah, I'm aware
Certainly better perks than that of Gold which is most likely what will get me sold on it. Afterall, free games that come with the subscription pay for the subscription! And there has been some pretty awesome games that have been given to us for free

But that won't stop me from disliking the concept of it

I believed the concept had potential from the get go.  With Enemy Unknown was successful enough to secure the turn based portion of the Franchise I think there is room enough for this iteration.  Dark Skies, Yeehaw.

Enemy Unknown got really boring really fast. I've not managed to finish the game yet and I kinda think I never will.

This new (old) XCOM game looks promising as well. I'm just worried it'll end up like DNF after being moved from studio to studio for so long. I wonder if this game will have multiplayer to engage three (or more?) players in co-op against aliens. I seriously need a new co-op to replace ME3.

It's not merely that; they've had to rebuild the core concepts a couple of times already. It's bound to be a disaster.

Not sure how is a list of all games ever published with co-op multiplayer mode going to help at all. Most of these games no longer have active multiplayer base and most of these are in fact team vs team or 2-player campaign co-op.

There are no real alternatives on PC in the same spirit as ME3 multiplayer. Except for Warframe and I don't like it at all.

As much as I would love to see something really close to the original xcom, this looks actually interesting. It would be even better if it was an FPS so that you could have that alien beast charging at you and tearing you to shreds, but third person may be interesting too. I hope it will turn out to be good and won't be only available on steam.
