Title: E3.
Post by: sigtau on June 15, 2010, 12:08:14 am
Because no one else talked about it.

Anyone else here like what they've seen so far?  I'm looking forward to the Nintendo conference tomorrow.

I haven't looked at too much. The Microsoft stuff didn't interest me too much. Natal (or whatever it is called now) seems like it could be cool, but it hasn't really grabbed my attention yet.

I will be watching the Nintendo conference though. Oh baby, oh baby. New Zelda palease!

Being more than a generation behind the curve means I haven't had much practical interest in the last few. :p At least I can keep an eye out for Wii titles.

I liked metal gear when it was set in a "believable" mould. It all went a bit silly in MGS3 / end of MGS2.

Nintendo's conference was phenomenal this year.

Let's take a look at the lineup:

Zelda: Skyward Sword
Mario Sports
Donkey Kong Country (for the Wii, **** yeah)
Kid Icarus for the 3DS
An official release date for Metroid: Other M
A new Goldeneye for the Wii (HELL YES)
Kirby: Epic Yarn (wtf @ the name, the rest is pretty good)

And best of all, no mention of that ****ing annoying game that takes up Nintendo's resources that should be devoted to titles like the above listed (namely, I'm talking about Pokemon, which was never mentioned here).

Holy crap, that Nintendo lineup is amazing.  Goldeneye port, finally some new Donkey Kong Country action, Zelda goodness, the 3DS looks awesome...maybe I really should have been paying attention to this E3.  Only owning Nintendo's current hardware doesn't seem so bad anymore. :p

That Donkey Kong Country remake reminds me of Ikaruga so much. 3D objects in 2D gameplay.

I must admit I'm personally disappointed be the Zelda vid, it looks like it took a big step backward in terms of art direction.  Twilight Princess was a really pretty game even given the limits on the Wii system.  Galloping across Hyrule field was a sight to be hold and the enviroments and characters pretty cool, now it looks pretty boring and simplistic.

I don't pay attention to most pre-release news these days. The one game I was interested in hearing about though was Deus Ex 3, and the trailer and news for that look promising. I don't have super high expectations for the game, but it could still potentially be one of the best we've gotten in a while.

I dunno, to me it looks like a Wii port of Ocarina of Time, though we all know that that surely wouldn't be the case, Aonuma even said it himself that doing so would take away the luster from Ocarina of Time.

Gah! No! They took my Twilight Princess and... kidified it!

I'm sorry.  Were you under the impression that Nintendo catered to an audience over the age of fourteen?*

Anyway, I've seen the Portal 2 trailer, and that's all I was really interested in from E3 this year.  Unless you're actually on the convention floor, it's just an overblown commercial, and the reason I don't have a television is because I got tired of those.

* -- Pulled that number off the top of my head, but after checking, the last first-party Nintendo game I bought was Zelda 64 (OOT, as if there was any other) in 1998, when I was fourteen.  The last game I bought for a Nintendo console was Rogue Squadron, released about five weeks before my fifteenth birthday.

I'm in the "pissed they made Skyward Sword into a cartoon" camp.  I was REALLY hoping for something with the graphics of Twilight Princess, which I loved.

I never really understood that sort of criticism.  For my money, Wind Waker was the best-looking game of the entire series up to this point, and from the screenshots I've seen, Skyward Sword looks like it has fantastic art direction too.

It's down to personal preference, honestly.  I really liked Twilight Princess' graphics, and I just don't care much at all for cell-shaded cartoonish stuff in my Zelda games.

I'd have similar problems if they released a Mario game with graphics like Twilight Princess.

i haven't looked at the zelda trailer yet, but if the gameplay is good (and i have to assume it will be), the graphics don't really matter much.  i didn't care for the cartoony wind waker at first either, but it was still an epic game.  the cartoonyness even grew on me.  now i can't imagine what it would have been like using the more traditional zelda graphics.

The only beef I have with Skyward Sword at the moment is the name (not as good as it could have been) and how Link is the most detailed object in the cel-shaded world (though his character model looks fantastic--and might I add that cel shaded graphics actually take more resources to produce than more realism-oriented graphics).

The Kirby trailer had a distinctly un-Kirby feel to it, esp. with regards to the music.  I am disappointed, and fearful.

The Donkey Kong Country trailer looked like it had a bit too much random nonsense going on in the background.  I am fearful.

The Zelda presentation (dear Heaven, that was painful to watch) failed to mention anything about story, failed to give a feel of the game, and did not showcase any music.  I am disappointed, fearful, and angry.

The Goldeneye trailer was interestingKA-BOOM EXPLOSIONS!!!!!111!.  I'll wait and see.

The Portal trailer was short, awesome, amusing, and gave a feel for the game.  I am hopeful.

Is there supposedly an Ace Combat in the pipe?  I'd be thrilled if they'd make the next one with older generation, say Vietnam or Korea era, aircraft rather then modern fighters.  I'd love to fly F-8 Crusaders vs Mig-15s and 21s.

Rumours for a couple of years now. People tracking down job descriptions looking for clues .. but nothing official.  The ACES group did work on Sky Crawlers for Wii and there's a Ace Combat Xi for iPod I think it was but that's about it.

Keep in mind that the game won't be released for several months at least, and from a quote I saw somewhere or other, the art content isn't completely finalized yet.  I'm sure there's still quite a bit of graphical polishing left to do.

TP's art style was okay, but the characters aside from Link and a few others were really weird. I don't know what they were thinking with most of the NPC's. I think the direction they're going with the new Zelda is rather interesting, but it does need some touching up to look really great.

And best of all, no mention of that ****ing annoying game that takes up Nintendo's resources that should be devoted to titles like the above listed (namely, I'm talking about Pokemon, which was never mentioned here).

u kidin me

For one, they never showcase the core Pokemon games in E3. Gamefreak's the team in charge of those and they pretty much do their own thing and have done so for the last decade or so. They're not sapping resources from anywhere. And finally, screw you, pogeymans are awesome.  :P

No, really. As in if there's a clown in a room, I avoid it at all costs. If I have to go through the room, I edge along a wall. Seriously, they scare the **** out of me and I don't know why. I can stand, say, watching the E3 preview of that game, but I'd never actually spend time playing it and interacting with the clowns. I'd be kept up for months.

But seriously, it looks to be a nifty and given THQ's track record with 40k games, faithful to the source material.
Title: Re: E3.
Post by: SpardaSon21 on June 22, 2010, 05:10:49 pm
The Dawn of War series is done by Relic, not THQ, with THQ as publisher, and DMO looks like it is going to be made by Vigil Games, with THQ publishing.

Maybe THQ could get Volition to do a 40k game as a break from Red Faction and Saint's Row, starring the player as a Stormtrooper in the Imperial Guard, with the callsign Alpha One.
