The nebula we all know and love in FS2 is, in fact, in the constellation Lupus!

http://exn.ca/Stories/2003/04/25/54.asp?t=dp

It was observed May 1st, 1006, in China and Egypt. Taking the speed of light into account, it's in the right timeframe. Like Bosch said, it;s the remnant of a supernova, blazing above an Egyptian landscape with the brilliance of a 100 thousand suns.

It's almost certain they do, somewhere in the universe. The chances that a race of multi-legged, speciocidal (is this a word???), UGLY aliens haven't evolved somewhere are so tiny it's not worth thinking about.

Then again, so are the chances of the Human race ever coming into contact with them.

Here's hoping, anyway... :D :nervous: :shaking:

hmmmmmmmmm isn't there a system "Wolf 359" on the official nodemap?? (Lupus = Wolf :nervous: )
The shortcut to impossibility does exist, we just have to find it! I will...

"A very faint red dwarf star, with only a fraction of the luminosity of the Sun. Wolf 359 is a near neighbour to the Earth, lying just under eight light years away."  Nope, no supernova.

The reason Capella was going supernova even before the Sathanasi powered up their weapons on it was because the larger of the two stars streamed gases into the dwarf. Both stars were doomed anyway.

1) If you think that the two star System Bosch was looking at in one of the cutscenes was Capella you're sadly mistaken

2) Capella is a twin yellow giant system (with other smaller stars in orbit around the two big ones).

3) [V] got the science (and grammer) wrong and refer to the Capella star indicating they've got Capella as a single star system.

4) A white dwarf feeding from a larger star does not always result in a supernova. Usually the matter builds up to where the star gets hot enough to begin  fusion again and the star goes nova (but not supernova).

Actually, IIRC, Capella is a 4-ary.

Wouldn't that make Capella a quadrinary?

Your grammar, sir, resembles that of a Southern man. And I can't figure out if that's good or bad... :nervous:

I've seen several different numbers of stars mentioned for Capella which is why I was vague. I know for certain that there are at least four stars in the system Capella Aa and Capella Ab are both Yellow Giants.
Capella C & D are both red dwarfs but I've seen sites mention other stars (for instance the link teabag gave mentions Capella having at least 6 other stars that I haven't mentioned here).

I didn't say six. I said six MORE! Yep. Teabags site claims that the Capella system consists of 10 stars in total!
As for who I believe well NASA, SolStation and The Internet Stellar Database all say 4 so I'm sticking with that as the correct number until someone can find me a site that says different :)

I think the term you're looking for is something like "ternerary".  Not too sure about the spelling though.
