Title: HTL Lilith
Post by: Rga_Noris on July 14, 2010, 05:43:29 pm
EDIT: Release!

http://www.mediafire.com/file/cih63wdjm5q4a1c/HTL_Lilith.rar

Heavily based off of c914's Cain
LODs and debris by Rga
Armor additions by Rga
Turrets by Rga
Map modification by Rga

Enjoy!

So I've been making subtle alterations to the Cain mesh to get a Lilith mesh.

The alterations are subtle, but I believe they bring out a more armored look to the Lilith. Here are some comparisons:

Here you can see the "collar" I added, as well as the additional rear spike. The collar adds additional bulk to the space between the "back" and the top arm.

This is an overall shot to show some minor changes in the glow map.

Look at the nose here. I added a horse shoe shaped addition that ends in a spike or saber like formation on either side of the nose.

My goal was to make subtle changes, but I hope they are not too subtle. Any feedback would be awesome. I would like to avoid releasing multiple versions for feedback and review, so if you would like additional angles please request them in this thread and I'll make them.

On the inside of each arm there are exposed ribbing textures... Covering those up with an armor plate might be an interesting addition.

I already said most of this in IRC, but it's good. It LOOKS like a more powerful Cain, which is what the Lilith is. Great work.

Oh on the original model there was a large diamond shape on the underside of the Lilith/Cain. Any chance of that returning?

Oh oh and on the original there were two things underneath the bottom two arms, instead of the single bit jutting out on the original Cain. How about those?

There was a request for more spikes on IRC, this is what I came up with:

Can you change main cannon on Lilith, making it larger and more powerfull looking?
Difference in size between SRed and LRed assemblies should be quite large, considering how powerfull LRed is.

Post by: The E on July 14, 2010, 06:40:25 pm
Yeah, I'd agree, if you change that multipart turret to something bigger and more mean-looking to get the point across that it is a friggin' LRed, it'll definitely look better.
Title: Re: HTL Lilith
Post by: Trivial Psychic on July 14, 2010, 07:24:39 pm
Perhaps you could add a subtle triple prongs just before the tip of the LRed.
Title: Re: HTL Lilith
Post by: Aardwolf on July 14, 2010, 07:31:23 pm
Nah, I'd go with dual prongs like the Demon turrets. Triple-pronged is just trite.

Also IMO the engine glow is too uniform.

Looks good, although I don't think it would hurt to be less subtle. :)
Title: Re: HTL Lilith
Post by: Aardwolf on July 14, 2010, 07:44:19 pm
Oh, I would also maybe add a little stronger looking bracing where the arms attach --- especially the top arm. Of course, I was suggesting this for the Cain too, but... it might work as one of the visible distinctions between the two ship classes.

Post by: Kolgena on July 14, 2010, 08:03:07 pm
The horseshoes framing the LRED look nice, but watch that they don't occlude the turret too much. Nothing would frustrate me more (especially in Blue Planet) than to shoot off 3 precious trebbs, only to have them blocked by hull protrusions :(

 IMO the Lilith and Cain should be immediately distinguishable just from looking at them

Give the lilith neon pink glowmaps.

You know you wanna :D

More seriously, it might be cool to have the existing pointy parts longer and curve more than they do in the Cain.

I meant 3 mini-prongs around the main barrel.

Triple seems more Shivan though...

Post by: Rga_Noris on July 14, 2010, 08:24:36 pm
I don't think I'm going to be any less subtle with it.

I may extend the spikes on the dorsal side more though.

A new main gun is DEFINATLY getting made. Likely tomorrow, though.

And I've extensivly tested the turrets... the only one slightly harder to hit is the rear anti-fighter beam, but this is true for the Cain as well.

Actually 4 is more Shivan for me.

Ravana
Rakshasa
Sathanas

It's going to be 17 pronged.

True that.
But the Cain/Lilith have 3 arms...(and 3 dots!)

4 is FS2 Shivan, 3 is FS1 Shivan.  Cain/Lilith's prongs for one.  Lucy may have had only 2 and the Demon is a left-fielder, but they all have the Shivan triangle (my daughter's favorite shape BTW).  BTW, I don't think that the Rakshasa classifies as a 4.  It may have 4 frontal turrets, but aesthetically its more of a 6, which is in two groups of... OH, 3!  :drevil:

I'd prefer to see them without any lighting applied so I can actually SEE the mesh differences.

I don't know, I think it'd be easier to see with ONLY lighting (and no textures, except possibly the normal maps)

If Turret07 model is replaced, great care should be taken not to accidentally alter beam fov. Beams seem to be turret barrel's fov meanwhile everything else uses turret base fov like set in pof properties. While I know very little on this, changing the turret model too much would likely alter beam's fov and in turn mission balance.

For funny trivia, if you use $force beam turrets to use normal fov: YES in ai_profiles.tbl, both Cain and Lilith become incapable of firing at targets directly in front of them because turret base fov is too narrow to do that. Turret07 is pointing directly below, not forward like you'd think.

Any idea when this model will be ready to go?  :D

Great! :)

Two questions:

1) Is it possible to make the armor even thicker?

2) Does the beam cannon really have to be bigger? What about making it look more aggressive, without altering dimensions?
Title: Re: HTL Lilith
Post by: Rga_Noris on July 15, 2010, 12:04:16 pm
Changes are on the nose and near the top arm.

I could make the armor thicker, but once you add the changed maps I think the difference is just enough.

Also, the new turret07 will appear beefier, but I likely will not make it any longer, because after a certain point it goes from deadly to silly... like phallic silly.

It's the ion-flux focuser. What it does is take stray meson particle and combine them with negatively charged nano-ions. Those then take the voltage and send it to the techno-neuro interface, where it divides said voltage amount into two seperate  flurgin pipelines. The two spiked you see on the sides generate hyper-static electricity by rubbing Shivan Super Slippers on the carpet, which combined with focusers and the resonance of the meson particles creates the beam.

Oh and, here's the Lilith (and improved Cain shine maps):

He did a bit more than "just" convert it. Like working with the normal maps and changing the beam turret.
Title: Re: HTL Lilith
Post by: Rga_Noris on July 16, 2010, 09:18:50 am
C914 made the original Cain mesh.
I made the debris, LODs, turrets, normal and shine maps for both, and the armor additions to the Lilith as well as slight modification to the diffuse map.

Aside from that, this model was pretty easy to convert, unlike the Hatty, which was a pain.
