Title: RELEASE - Points of View
Post by: Three Niner on May 01, 2009, 06:38:10 pm
Well, this should probably be called a "mini-campaign", but a lot of effort went into it.

Background: As the 14 year war rages on, you have been recruited into the Parliamentary Vasudan Navy. (It's really that simple)

This was originally part of a larger project, that would "shadow" the main campaign, so this is short and sweet, with only 3 missions. I'm still open to continuing it, if this gets good feedback.

Campaign requires a recent SCP build and FSport 3.1.1.

Huge thanks to the SCP for their awesome work, and to the Freespace Port for recreating the FS1 experience.

(apologies for the horrendous image quality)

Seems like a cool concept.  I'll be sure to give it a shot.

(While we're doing the grammar thing, "persue" should be "pursue" in that second shot. :p)

He probably doesn't speak English as a first language.

I'll have to try this, there aren't any Zod campaigns IIRC.

Procyon Insurgency ,Shrouding the Light ,Backwater Operations Demo...
(in the last one you fly Vasudan fighters ,but you're not a Vasudan yourself).
But the more campaigns we have the more flying we get  :) .
And I especially like Vasudan ones ,and it seems to be the first Vasudan campaign set in T-V war period.
I always thought we are lacking that. (STL is for FSPort ,but it's set after the war).

Yeah, but they're not from a TVW era Vasudan's point of view.

it's ok.. dissable built in messages for the next release, I got the "impressive for a Terran" message from my wingmen a couple of times. ^^

admins, you should rename that thread into RELEASE: Points of View to give it the attention any release deserves.

Doesn't FSPort now have Vasudan built-in messages?

:blah: English is my first language.

BTW: Has anyone played through it yet? I would like some feedback. :)

Then you should be doing some more grammar/spelling checking. :P

I played it through and liked it.

I noticed some shout-outs to other FS1-era campaigns, particularly Blaise Russel's use of "Director" and the cargo in the Terran containers (e.g. Etheric Rotors).  The backgrounds were gorgeous, and playing as a Vasudan is always fun.  (Though I would have liked the choice of a Seth-class fighter, and the GTF Angel fighters were no longer in service in 2335.)

One thing I didn't like is that I didn't really see what the campaign overall achieved.  I didn't know the significance of my actions as a pilot, and I was never debriefed on what exactly I helped capture.  I had figured the campaign was going to lead into something with the Avenger cannon, but that didn't happen.

However, you have potential.  I'd like to see more missions from you. :)

Sorry for the necro (although that thread isn't that old), but anyone knows where to find a link to this one ? The attachment is deleted and the wiki only points here...

I think the forum autopurges attachments. It's bulimic.

Thanks a lot. Somebody should host it somewhere in Freespacemods.net or something, or we're gonna loose it in the void of the wide web...

We really need a new form of primary weapon for 14 Year War era Vasudans, especially if player campaigns are becoming more popular.  The VLL-9 is just so damn slow. . .

Playing through this now, by the way.

In this campaign you play mainly with the Fang missiles. You have plentiful of them in your tiny Anubis, they are as fast as VLL and much deadlier. I ran the whole campaign (not that long though) in Medium without problem, and I think letting us nothing but the deathtrap the Anubis is, makes for a very interesting and quite challenging gameplay.

So comparing GTA and PVN armament, the Fang is must deadlier in dogfights than either the ML-16, the MX-50 or the Fury, even if it seems a bit less effective against cruisers. The missile banks of the Anubis are quite well-placed too, compared to how badly placed most primary banks are on Vasudan fighters.

I enjoyed the campaign. I have some of the same criticisms as far as story line goes as some others here, but you weren't making a full sized campaign.

Once I got used to the different fighting style you had to use with the Anubis, it turned out to be a decent fighter.
