Title: 'Lost Cause' demo Now Released
Post by: aurora_energy on April 11, 2008, 03:15:28 am
I primarily made this mission because i was bored one day and I came up with this idea of exploring the area around the Capella
Star during the time that the shivans were gathering to blow it up. after a while it evolved into a pritty cool mission. so far it has been going great, so i am proud to release the "Freespace 2 'Lost Cause' Demo." all it requires is Freespace 2 Retail, no mods required.

I believe I have straightend out all the bugs, but if you find any, let me know and I will update the link.

Can this be played with SCP?  Sorry if it's a dumb question.  Cool sounding mission.

Could you put this someplace other than FilePlanet?  (even just attach it to a post)

Put it in your /data/missions folder.
Or create a mod folder for it, like \freespace\lostcause\ and place the file to \freespace\lostcause\data\missions. Then, just select the \lostcause\ folder as your mod from the Launcher, start the game and surf your way to the Mission Simulator.

What's wrong with FilePlanet (yeah, it is annoying as hell, but it is still free)?

ou can get this mission from there without even having to register/log in.

Btw, is this mission 'win-able' ?

It seems to have stopped working with my computer (I think they added some thing that is only Windows compatible).

I guess that may be the case. It's the sort of thing they'd do.

Sure... let me work on them and i will fix the link.

Put it in your /data/missions folder.

did you want me to use patchmaker to have an actual install file rather than just the mission file?

uh... no... but it will be a great mission... once i get arround to putting in all the sathanis' and other objectives...
I am planning on having this mission run for a fair while... excluding all the other crap.

oh and fyi, you dont need to have it run as a mod. it runs on freespace retail, so all you have to do is put it in freespace2/data/missions and run freespace without any mods.

Ok. Let me be the first one to start... :)

I am an internal auditor by profession but no programmer; ie I am at good at criticising but not at solving things... ;)

I ran the game on the 3.6.10 build and the 3.6.10 Mediavps

1) Started through MediaVP mod and had the prometheus with 7:3 damage. Then started the game without a MOD and got 4:1 prometheus

2) Send me the script so improve the grammar and remove the spelling mistakes

3) Primaries for Alpha1 are only subach unlike the rest of alpha wing which also has the prometheus

4) In the bottom left window I get alpha wing's Ulysses marked as the SJ Sathanas...

5) I found it strange that the wings' main concern is its surroundings other than that the ships' engines went bust.
a. I personally think that a pilot's first concern is his craft other than his surroundings. If I have just warped out to investigate an unknown phenomena and my craft is at a stand still, my first reaction would be to **** in my pants.
b. It would be more realistice if the fighter slows down other than starting immediately at a stand still. If you've just warped out, you still have the momentum of the jump.

6) The Enigma never moved over to my ship to fix it. It remained at a distance of 113m and never moved. Don't know why. Please help.

7) I found it a bit strange that the NTF use the Ulysses craft due to the way they view the GTA's alliance with the Vasudans. I am no expert. I never took notice if the NTF used any Vasudan craft in Freespace 2 or the Ulysses so I can be wrong on this one :)

If you can help me solve the problem of the Enigma, I will be able to continue the mission and give you more feedback.

The NTF flew Ulysses fighters. Probably not out of preference, but of necessity.

Has anyone else tested the campaign? Were the errors encountered only from my side?

BTW. You haven't sent me the scripts yet. Your English grammar and spelling mistakes need to be improved.

Just played it.  The first time, the mission didn't end; I reloaded it and it did the second time.

There seems to be no way to effectively protect the Enigma.  Support ships die quickly; even when I order the wing to protect the support ship, a Shivan fighter will always slip through and kill the Enigma... and I'm guessing that's their objective, because after the fighters have killed the support ship, they immediately bug out and return to their hangars on the juggernauts, rather than sticking around to fight Alpha and the cruiser.

(Incidentally, that cruiser tears the hell out of the Shivan fighters, but then, Leviathans tend to do that to any fighters they fight, so...)

Also, in the briefing the Knossos portal is marked as an SC Cain on the briefing screen.

I couldn't protect the support ship either, no matter how many times I tried on easy.

The support ship is suppost to die... or if your a legendary pro you could face down 999 waves of 3 wings of 6 fighters.
thats why the directives list does not show how many fighters are left. because if i programmed it properly, when the enigma is destroyed the shivans would break off and show as objective failed.
The NTF flew Ulysses fighters. Probably not out of preference, but of necessity.
I always thought the ntf produced their own ships, but stole some orions as capatals. and thats why their database is out of date.

WTF?

Sorry... Ill get em first chance. cant now... my com doesnt have internet... and also b4 you ask, no this is not my computer... its my dads.

and is everyone happy with the mirrors?

Not really.  FileCrunch isn't any better for me than FilePlanet.  You might as well just attach it to a post.
