This is why we have "check hull" flags now.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I had a bad attitude because it felt particularly irksome that SPOON didn't even have one nice thing to say about the new pic.
I had only posted one old pic in regard to a recent comment to a new person had made about large objects.

Meh... At least Esari was impressed, so that far outweighs any negativity (that's why he's tweaking those files in the future).

Another new pic. unfortunately things go slow, but takig a page out of my own "Turret Project" I have an alpha test of my main battleship turrets. Eventually I will have the yellow lights blink and maybe one day figure out how to have the glowing red striped "power up" when it takes a shot, but that's something to think about later...

textures subject to change.

In Lab:

In Game:

So yeah, while it's only 660 polys, it still by far is better looking the half the turrets I've seen.
ultimately the only person I need to satisfy is myself, 2011 can bite me...

Axel's base and KT'Hyla's barrel mated by my vision.

You need to grab an SVN or an FTP or a Dropbox or something so you won't lose your stuff when your hard drive goes.

You gota be kidding me, that turret looks awesome! You got any ideas for weapons to go with it?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Yes, Triple Railgun. In space it would be slightly more effective than surface-based ones cause of virtually no wind current (solar wind) and less occurrences of gravity drop.

"On January 31, 2008 the US Navy tested a railgun that fired a shell at 10.64 MJ with a muzzle velocity of 2,520 m/s.[16] Its expected performance is a muzzle velocity over 5,800 m/s, accurate enough to hit a 5 meter target over 200 nautical miles (370.4 km) away while firing at 10 shots per minute." - the new 2010 RG is (33MJ) a shot.

So for sake of argument, these turrets can each fire one triple volley, every 6 seconds (slow count).

So think of a suped up version of this:  TF2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6qizxSFckc

The Navy is aiming for 64MJ shots, but I feel the Spacy should double that, unless it's just too huge a leap in materials science to be remotely plausible.

Then again numbers for FS2 Beams are hideously more high, so this might not be damaging enough for the FSverse. More like NBSG.

Only because they both have three barrels and the bases have a hump on the back. Beyond that? Not much else is similar.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Yes but it's Axel's base and Kt'Hyla's barrel:

  Contributors to this project include:
--------------------------------------
Axel (HW2 Modding) - AXL
Lord Ravensburg (Sci-Fi Meshes) - LRB
Axem (FS2 Modding) - AXM
Trashman (FS2 Modding) - TRA
Scooby_Doo (FS2 Modding) - SCO
Ancient Angel (SFC Modding) -AAG
WHY? (Klingon Academy Modding) - WHY
KT'Hyla (Klingon Academy Modding) - KTH

Initials of -UNK indicate the original source was unknown.

The new fighter is mostly done. I decided to go back to the well and re-use the Hydra's head. Have to see what Esarai does with the mapping and then tweak it myself later, so right now it's flat black placeholder texture there.

Thinking of calling it the "Sin".

Yeah, the ship in the background looks almost identical to Daedalus (from Stargate: Atlantis).

Actually, I think that's the best turret I've seen so far. It looks even better than the Vasudan turrets on the HTL Aten, and that speaks volumes since those were very well done too.

But less than 9,000.  :p

The ship in the foreground reminds me of what a 3D version of an original Master of Orion ship sprite might look like. On that accord, I kind of like it in a nostalgiac vein.

Nico was the first attempt at bringing "Space Piracy" to FS.
Cartoony textures are the past.

This Arcadia is serious business!
(unfortunately, though armed it's not rigged, can't do it) :(
