Re: The FreeSpace Wiki's New Featured Campaign
What does any this have to do with the Featured Campaign?

April Fool's is over. I suggest with the utmost humility to the Supervisory Administrator, our infallible leader Black Wolf, that we change the featured campaign.

He's listing some examples to prove that quality is a matter of perception.

By the way, the articles will reopen on the 7 April.

Re: The FreeSpace Wiki's New Featured Campaign

The Golgotha from BWO would be ideal as a replacement for the Colossus and should have been used in TSGWP II if it was remotely possible, which it wasn't and still isn't, since that model is still not released and it is 2010. What the hell? If the Golgotha is ever released, maybe someone can go back and remake TSGWP II and replace all Colossus vessels in it with the Golgotha, if TSGWP II is even considered worthy of a remake.

The only models that existed back when this campaign was released were junky ones, like the low poly blurry textured ones used in Unholy Alliance or using the same FS2 models with simple reskins and altered specs and tables and a name change (very common for a few years following FS2's release, and it was disappointing).

And the focus of most modellers was to make a capship capable of 'defeating' it.

Pointless when you realize what is capable of defeating what is just numbers in a tbl, or some SEXPs in FRED.
Unless of course, they set out to defeat it in terms of aesthetics.

BP is good, but I wouldn't want to play it over and over again. Also, whether or not something is considered a good campaign is a perception. It all depends on how picky someone is, I guess.

True, that.

Re: The FreeSpace Wiki's New Featured Campaign
To all: Black Wolf hasn't been available since April 1st, because he had to ship out somewhere for work or school related purposes.  He asked me to revert the changes after April Fools was over, and I agreed, but then I got super-busy for a couple of days.  Mea culpa. :nervous:

Now as for which campaign people want to feature, that's pretty much up to the whim of whoever is editing the wiki.  If you want to feature a campaign, edit the template and do so.  Both PI and ST:R were "featured" on the wiki by their respective campaign authors. :p

It's the featured campaign "of the moment", after all, so it can change frequently.  Just be considerate and leave the previous campaign in place for a week or so before you change it.

Jesus. I have the courtesy to ask and I get reamed over it. Apparently I should have just gone ahead with it!  :p

Not that I'm mad at TopAce - he's totally correct, campaign creators shouldn't be selecting the features - but looking at the history of the section, it seems like it's mostly been used as advertising for new campaign releases (with the exception of PI.)

Anyway, my vote's for Windmills at the moment.

Even if it was apparently standard practice, yes, it was unbecoming of me. I am sorry.

Re: The FreeSpace Wiki's New Featured Campaign
I went to check on the article just now, and saw that Droid has salvaged the screenshots template for use there. Good on him for doing that, so I've made the screenshots a little larger, because most of the screens have quite a bit of text to read.

I've also added a link to the VP version of SGWP2, available on FSMods. This is the version I use, and it is, if anything, just as stable as the original, and probably worth a look for those who don't like having a ton of files in their mod folders. ;)
