You're looking at the wrong place. The information about the Ancients being involved in a post-FS2 story (it might have been plans for FS3) came from an artist at Volition I ran into on Kotaku this year.

That would really have been interesting. I've always wondered about the appearance of any Ancient ships would create for such a story.

Well, the ASW Ancient ships are based of the design aesthetic of the iNFR1 Ancients, which in turn are built around the Knossos Aesthetic.
The INFSCP Ancients, some of which are in ASW (ie. the Malia and the Minos) have the big "gas sack" thing and look appreciably different.

I rather like the Knossos-inspired designs - if they were made more grungy and mechanical, they'd look less like "tame shivans" and more like actual shivans (at least the FS1 ones). As they stand right now I think they stand at a good balance and you can see similarities with the Vasudans (which goes with the vasudans-visited-by-ancients theory).

 I really dislike the whole Ancient "like Shivans" aesthetic, I saw them being more as an efficiency focused (due to millennia of conquest) thus closer to "realistic" (GTVA-ish leaning to the V) with their "civilian" stuff being "artistic" (such as the Knossos) it makes much more sense in my opinion.

 With the millions of conquests that make the Ancient Empire, you can have an arsenal of completely different aesthetics to use and hybridize.

Well the cockpit is released! You should play Diaspora if you haven't already. That's why everyone is concentrating on the ship, which isn't released.

It's not transparent, it's the hull texture. Looks rather unusual, I'd say.
