Rome was my favorite in the series but this looks finally like something that could success it.

Warring States or another period of large scale conflict in ancient China could be very interesting.

That would be awesome.

That would be the game's giant elephant cheat code equivalent.

Got it.  Just getting my feet wet.  Graphics are very nice but the colours are a little washed out though.  Battles seem to be taking place a little faster than I imagined, might need to check out the settings.

When I look at the forums focused on TW it really hurts my confidence. :(

Stay away from Rome II. FAR AWAY.

Awful performance on low settings for high end machines*? Check. One of the worst UIs I've ever seen? Check. Lots of new game mechanics like army leveling sounding great in concept but turning out to be almost pointless in execution? Check. Awful AI, one of the worst CA has ever shipped? Check. Ridiculously unrealistic run speeds? Check. Reducing morale's importance to the point the game becomes a pure slaughterfest like any run-of-the-mill RTS? Check.

Wherever Rome II is, find the point on the opposite side of the globe and go there. Also, NEVER PREORDER ANYTHING EVER.

*Inexplicably the performance is great in the historical battles, which is, shockingly, what they focused on for promotional gameplay footage! Bravo, CA, bravo.

If I learned anything from buying one total war game, its that its going to be bug ridden and filled with crashes for a long long time. Call me again when they released the game and patched it properly.

I was going to basically post this. Happens every time.

Beware, people. Let others buy it and pick over the game and make sure it works properly. Pro reviewers will have orgasms over it, as they do all the Total War games, but the real gamers will eventually find out if everything is working properly underneath all the flash and make it known.
And the cycle goes on.

But look on the bright side, we need people like you to go in and check it out first for the rest of us, so you've done us a service. :)

But whatever it is, this is how they churn out their games. It's like we're all free beta testers for them.

The AI in particular doesn't surprise me. I saw absolutely no mention of the AI in the build up, and that was number 1 priority to me. If it's not upgraded, I won't be buying this game, simple as that.

Indeed. And it won't change as long as we all keep being good little gamers and pay for the privilege of beta-testing their games for them.
