Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
I think I know why.
Wasn't the Chronos designed BEFORE the Terran-Vasudan War? I bet it wasn't meant for atmospheric flight. The T-V and resulting Great War with the Shivans may have dictated that the Terrans had no time to make new large ships, so they had to make do with whatever they had in their shipyards.
Either that or the Vasudans have no forklifts. :drevil:

And the refugees in the first fs2 mission first had to go to a orbiting space station possibly a karnack station before departing on a chronos deep space vessel.    That would make sense.   you don't have your deep-space vessels depart from the ground that would waste fuel and energy escaping gravity.  no you would leave that to shuttles.  which does raise a question. wouldn't vasuda prime have an active spaceport?  As the Vassudan homeworld and at war with the Terrans it would make sense that the planet have some form of space defences that would need to be wiped out by the Lucifer fleet.

well in space it doesn't mater but within planet gravity it would be an odd design to force the crew to operate against gravity and direction of ground plus waste space on an anti gravity device and whatever device they use to orientate anyone entering and exiting that craft.

Yeah...I bet the crew were cursing the GTA after herding the Vasudans to safety. :drevil:

Umm...I don't think the GVI Karnak is a canon ship in either FS1 or FS2; I do recall that the Tech description for the non-canon GVI Cairo states that Vasudans have a strong belief in living on solid ground.

Here's an alternative...couldn't the GTA use a GTFr Poseidon instead of a GTFr Chronos to evacuate the Vasudans from Vasuda Prime?

sorry I edited the last post before you posted and that might change your thinking besides to have any form of space fleet you need to have shipyards and space instillations.  thats just logical sense. and explains why the Chronos was designed the way it was.

Pfft, no worries over there.

Even if the Vasudans had planetary defences, I believe they would be rubbish; just look at their sentry guns. In fact, I don't think they had any planetary defences at all apart from spacecraft. Think about it. After Vasuda Prime was destroyed, it seemed that the GTA was relying on the number of subspace nodes between the Lucifer and Sol to buy time. It's not as if planetary defences would've been of much help either. Keep in mind that the Lucifer in 2335 had a shield system that deflects all projectiles.

They wern't much help against the lucifer fleet but you should show them getting swept aside.  Of course they would have had them other wise they would have been easily invaded by the terrains and their Orion destroyers.  Remember the Terrans had places like Ribos that were suppose to be fortresses, Vassudans would have the same especially their homeworld.  they didn't just build their Typhoon class destroyers on the ground did they?

But note that the shipyards of the Terrans are in Sol. If the Vasudans had planetary defences, they would probably consist of a Typhon, some cruisers and a good number of Vasudan fighters sufficient enough to divert the Shivans' attention from escaping transports.

Are you suggesting the Vassudens built their ships at sol as well?  What a weird war that must have been. Must have been like freelancer on the internet.  A new ship  leaving the earth based shipyards and the vassudans would pop out of  nowhere and say "Uh guys, that one is ours, and remember no Pvp in sol!"

Somehow I doubt that that was what he was implying.

I agree that a number of Vasudan warships and fighters would be defending Vasuda Prime from the Lucifer's attack, even if they knew they had no chance of success.

Umm, I was thinking that the shipyards of the Vasudans would be on Vasuda Prime itself, the only problem being that they are only defended by a small Vasudan fleet orbiting the planet. :wtf:

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
Well that would need to be taken care of by the Lucifer when it arrived wouldn't it? :D  Oh you mean on the ground itself?  possibly! afterall it is fiction but if you want to stick to actuall fact that would be impossible.  To much recourcess would be needed to get a heavy battle cruiser off the ground.  Think about the kind of fuel we use just to get the small space shuttle off the ground and in to orbit. and thats just orbit.

Indeed, indeed. ;)
After all, didn't the Lucifer bombard the whole planet? Those shipyards wouldn't stand a chance, and only a small fragment of the Vasudan fleet escaped.

I think the Vasudans would have more than a couple of ships defending their homeworld, especially when they knew the Lucifer was coming.

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
yah It is their howmeworld afterall. the majority would have made their final stand there even if it was futile to at least get as many people off the ground as possible

That would explain the many explosions in the background where the three Satis freighters were taking flight.

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
jesus......do not overestimate everything ;) but it seems that my cutscene shows similar inconsistencies as the [v]´s has ;)

however.....who says that a chronos is not able for planetary flight?! a ship if this size has for sure artificial gravity as a lot of ships MUST have this technology.....otherwise a lot of things we see in missions, etc cannot be explained...

furthermore: this is a cutscene and NO movie! a lot of action is still relying on YOUR imagination and leaves a lot of space for speculations ;)

and btw: there is a [v] mission wich shows a LOT of chronos picking up containers! pls read the thread....

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
Yah your cutscene is great.  But here is an idea, I was thinking, as you show the Lucifer warping into the system and approaching the planet,  have some vassudan ships in the background maybe a station or 2, and then, when you cut back to it, throw in a allot of debris a few wrecks and some bomber escort. The player can make the connection that all defenses were wiped out, and quickly, rather artistically I think.

The chronos debate is rather irrelevant at this point, and its all speculation.  But here is what I think truncated down to a single paragraph, if you want to bother to read. Just because It could do that in space where orientation doesn't matter, doesn't mean It had to fly upside down in the atmosphere, all because it couldn't land on a lower fin. There is such thing as a prebuilt racks or landing gear, and allot simpler solution I think.  First, It would be disorienting to pilots to have the ground so close above them.  Second, it would require allot of wasted energy on devices to maintain internal gravity; which would be harder then in space, as its counteracting a huge gravity well.  Third It would severely complicate the boarding and offloading procedure.  Any engineer would laugh at such a crazy design, and the Vassudans were suppose to be smarter then humans or at least they boasted it quite allot.

The Chronos isn't a Vasudan design though, so how does the Vasudan's perceived superior intellect apply here?  That's a Terran freighter class.
Everything is better with monkeys.  Even pie.

That is the best first post I have ever seen.

Holy Crap! :shaking:   Your right.  all this time  I have been thinking of the wrong ship!   Chronos isn't upsidedown! Thats they way it was designed to pick up cargo.   No, Ive been thinking of the Satis Transport which IS upside down in your cut scene IcyJones.  Wow most of you must have been thinking what the hell am I talking about.  :o Well replace every word Chronos with Satis and it will start making sense.
