Ship Scaling

<< < (2/2)

Dragon:
There is one ship that is present both in HW and HW2.
Taidanii Assault Frigate was also used by Vaygyr, so you may use it for scaling.
I agree that fighters and corvettes may be scaled down, though excluding Salvage corvettes may be a good idea.
Resource collectors may also be scaled in meters, othewise they may not fit well onto Resource Controllers.

True, but 1) it wasn't used and 2) it was completely out of scale IIRC, hence not reliable for size comparisons.

Wrong. The Vaygr use their own frigates, which share very little in design with their Taiidani counterparts. And I may add that the size of ship of similar class from different races can be very different (for example, all Vaygr ships are in average about 30% larger than their Hiigaran counterparts).

Kusanagi:
The Taiidan resource collector is doubling as a cargo transport (the ingame model has the back ore canister separate) so chances are the resource collectors and controllers will be scaled at 1/2 instead of 1/3rd or 1:1. This fits a nice balance for when they have to interact with other ships such as strike craft docking to repair or being ferried in, and they don't look so tiny when interacting with the larger ships such as carriers and motherships.

Edit: After some playtesting, the scaling is leaning right now towards ending up being in a meters to units ratio:

All strike craft: .305 (1 unit = 1 ft)

All frigates and larger: 1 (1 unit = 1 meter)

Resource Collectors, Controllers, a few other noncombat vessels: .61 (1 unit = 2 feet)
