He takes a lot of adjusting to, because his smashes are very slow and a lot of his  moves initially seem useless. However, he's actually thoroughly awesome. The command-detonation mine in particular (his down-B) is rather formidable, and his grenades (neutral B) can be cooked so they detonate more quickly.

I also recommend his dash attack.

Samus is the all-time best character of all time since the first Smash Bros :p

So freaking awesome :D I used to play Fox, but they kind of nerfed his up-kick/smash, so now I've been playing R.O.B and LOVE HIM :D

Yeah, though, frankly, it's more impressive without the translated lyrics. A little bombastic, I think.

No! Samus' chuck was perfect for levels like hyrule and zebes Kong was slow slow slow. Charge shot's all ya need
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: WeatherOp on March 12, 2008, 12:50:45 pm
The best moves Samus has is the bottom punch meteor air attack and the jump back kick. I can't you how mad my brother would get at me on the first Smash Bros, when I would whack him down using that bottom punch a few times till he bounces off the ground and then kick him off into oblivion with that back kick. They nerfed these two moves a little in Melee and Brawl, but still quite deadly.

But gun=pwnage. Especially to large targets such as bowser and DK.  :D

I would... but I can't find it. It gave it to me when I first created a Wi-Fi profile, but I did not write it down (stupid, I know), and now I can't find it.

How does one look up the FC after the fact?

How do you find the code after you've made your Mii?

Quote
Go to the message board/mail area (the envelope button on the lower right) and check your address book. The number is on the cover. That's also where you register other people's numbers. Once you've registered each other, you can mail your Mii to the other person on the Mii Channel.

Quote
Friend code to main menu click bottom right of screen wii message board, click on the aperand pencil, then address book, register, If you know anothers code pick wii if not pick others and enter an email address. Once you do this the reciver of an email gets your friend code. Then they send you an email to get there code. once you both have done that your all set.

But is the Wii Code the same as a Friend Code?

I thought Friend Code's were game-specific. That's how it works on the DS.

From the Brawl mainscreen, go to "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection".  If it's your first time doing this, it'll give you your friend code immediately after connecting.  Otherwise, go to "with friends" and then "friend roster".  Your friend code is at top right.

If anyone would like to share friend codes, feel free to PM. :)

*facepalm*

I should have thought of looking there! That's where it is on EVERY OTHER GAME WITH A FRIEND CODE!

Ok, then, Dark Hunter's FC: 3866-7745-9778.

I'll only be available on Friday afternoons and weekends, though...

What does Super Smash Bros. offer people who aren't Nintendo fantards?
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: Dark Hunter on March 14, 2008, 12:36:36 am
Solid Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog (or, at least Brawl does)

But really, the fighting system makes it extremely fun. Proof of this is Smash Bros.'s popularity. People don't play the game to see their favorite characters. They've got plenty of other games in which these characters appear. They play it because the unorthodox fighting system is awesome.

That, and the wide variety of things to do. In addition to just smashing the hell out of the computer or friends in the main game, there is also a pretty long and fun story mode (Subspace Emissary), Target Breaking courses, a Home Run contest, endurance fights, boss rush, etc.

To be fair, I still think the PC is as better medium for serious, hardcore games with a lot of depth. For some reason, things just feel better on the PC.

Casual games, like Smash, and 'cinematic' games like Mass Effect, seem to really work well on consoles.
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: haloboy100 on March 14, 2008, 03:02:58 pm
Agreed. PCs are the only platform that work when it comes to depth.

Meh.

I'm a multi-platform gamer... PC's as well as consoles.

One is not inherently better than the other, IMO. Both have weaknesses and strengths.

Statements such as:
PCs are the only platform that work when it comes to depth.

are quite narrow-minded.

Nay Sir, it's the truth.

anything that you can play on a console I can play on a PC (emulator + torrents + 15 minutes). The reverse is not true.

I played many console games. They are fun, but aren't as deep as games you can get on PC.
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: BloodEagle on March 14, 2008, 05:55:19 pm
There are very few games that are "deep," regardless of whether or not they're on a console.
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: General Battuta on March 14, 2008, 07:39:00 pm
I'm skeptical that you can find emulators for modern console games.

Anyway, back on topic, was anyone a little disappointed with the Subspace Emissary mode? The cutscenes were great, but the story was kind of disjointed and the actual levels were frustrating.
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: haloboy100 on March 14, 2008, 08:00:02 pm
It's a shear fighting game. there isn't meant to be a story in the first place.
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: General Battuta on March 14, 2008, 08:16:12 pm
Not true, in this case. One of the stated goals of development for Brawl was to add a deep single-player story.

And Halo does what?  :p
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: Dark Hunter on March 15, 2008, 01:29:07 am
I've found one of the major factors in being disappointed about (or ruining completely) a game is when you expect it to be something that it is not.

I think this is why I like some games that others don't. I've heard lots of grief, for instance, about Halo 3 not living up to expectations. Well, I think part of that was the fault of the gaming community for placing those expectations too high (though the relentless over-hyping certainly didn't help). I found Halo 3 to be a satisfying and fun end to the Halo trilogy, not disappointing at all.

As previously stated, SSBB is a fighting game. Whether it was the intent of the developer or not, I never expected a very deep story out of Subspace Emissary. I still found the mode fun, even if the last level was tedious.

Elaborate stories belong in the genres they are suited for. Fighting games is not one of them. Fighting games are about beating the crap out of your opponent. Subspace Emissary delivered plenty on that count. :p
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: Asuko on March 15, 2008, 12:16:53 pm
I do have to say, the Great Maze (last lvl in SSE) certainly was tedious.

I find a reason to like playing Brawl is the community aspect of having vs. matches. I've had some crazy matches with a few of my friends. It never would get old since each match is different. I know I could do much the same through Internet play but there's nothing like the personal interactions in being there.

Nevertheless, I'd love a TF2 match any day just like I would to Brawl.

Actually halo has a fairly good story. there are 4 books (5 if you include the graphic novel) about it.

But i don't like halo anymore. I didn't even play halo 3 yet cause i'm not getting a 360. I still want my name to be changed to Flyboy.
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: TrashMan on March 15, 2008, 02:51:55 pm
You CAN have a good story for fighting games too. IT's a bit more difficult and most companies never bother. You can allways havea  good story.

Example? Saint Seiya fighting games (for PS2)

Know when I said depth I didn't only mean story depth - I mean everything, the works.. the tiny details, interaction, complexity..

anything that you can play on a console I can play on a PC (emulator + torrents + 15 minutes). The reverse is not true.
So...you can magically download a fully-working XBox emulator in 15 minutes?  Despite the fact that no such emulator exists?  Eenteresting.

I despise traditional fighting games too, but Smash Bros. is another thing entirely.  There's just something viscerally fun about punching Bowser 50 feet in the air as Jigglypuff.

Replayability wins every time. That's why i mariokart still. (Snes original) halo 3 off-line just doesn't offer it. What's the final boss on brawl? Is it still that crazy thing from ssb ?
Title: Re: Smash Bros... Finally!
Post by: Unknown Target on March 18, 2008, 12:55:52 pm
Most other fighting games concentrate on button combos, the thing that makes Smash so accessible is that it really only uses about five buttons, and each one has a specific use, which is modified using the movement - and this is true across all characters. Also, smash focuses pretty much on timing instead of making long button combos for powerful moves. So you beat your opponent by having fast timing and reflexes, as opposed to having a good memory.

Good question. From Subspace, let's say (obviously the Smash Bros. version of subspace, not FS's).

If you mean "what game series is he from?" I'd say Smash Bros. (although I did hear someone claim he was in a really old game nobody knows about).

It seems Tabuu is another creation released in Brawl, much like Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Giga Bowser. Fun.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are still in Brawl, in their usual spot at the end of Classic Mode. (Although Master Hand does play a minor role in Subspace Emissary as well.)

Crazy Hand supposedly appears if:

A) you play on Hard dificulty or higher
B) you use no continues
C) you reach the end in less than 9 minutes

Then you fight both the Hands at once.
