Title: Can't help myself...
Post by: Cobra on September 23, 2005, 07:21:54 pm
i was browsing the wikipedia's Freespace section and felt it needed some more info.

right now i'm too proud of myself sop i can't keep this to myself. XD

here. :D (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fledgling_Galactic_Terran-Vasudan_Alliance_Nearly_Destroyed)

[EDIT] and before any of you say anything, the reason i branched out to the 3rd mission after the 2nd was so no one goes 'wtf happened next?' when they read about the 2nd mission. (AND i had to explain the unmarked Orion and unidentified fighters, so, bleh to you.. er... what's the word... meh...)

haw haw its about to get deleted.
Title: Can't help myself...
Post by: Cobra on September 23, 2005, 09:14:07 pm
because the person that posted the reason it should be deleted thinks that that comes out of the manual, and that i did not say that it deals with Descent Freespace. (HELLO?! the manual makes no mention for this, let alone that there is no model for Silent Threat, and it's posted in the Freespace section, so this guy does not have his facts straight.)

I have played ST many times, but what's the point of this entry? It's not even clear that it's about Freespace and the title makes little sense, sounds like a news headline or something. This should really go in the existing article on FS.

Post by: CP5670 on September 24, 2005, 02:31:08 am
You only wrote the last part of that, right? Since it still doesn't make sense; that stuff at the end has no connection to the GTVA and goes into needless detail on minor mission events. The GTVA wasn't formed until 2345 and ST takes place long before that. What are you trying to do here? :wtf:

........

This makes less sense than ST did in the first place....

Sorry Cobra, I think I speak for everyone when I say that this is an embarassment to the FreeSpace Community.

I applaud the initiative but, this definitely rates a :wtf:

The second article is... ok...
Title: Can't help myself...
Post by: BlackDove on September 24, 2005, 12:27:58 pm
This article has nothing to do with the GTVA, since it is a matter that occured before the formation of the GTVA, when the GTI rebellion occured in accordance with the GTA.

The article is also an abysmal failure at sentence construction, as well as syntax.

What the hell are you trying to do?

Someone delete this please.

I was thinking when I read this thread that Cobra wasn't the best one for this...Cobra, the Wikipedia is a place to use as a factual reference - not a storyteller's forum.

No offense, Cobra, but your contribution doesn't fit in at all with the rest of the GTVA article, which is well-written and well-worded.  I'd advise you to ditch it, since, as others said, it really has nothing to do with the GTVA.

We're not putting you down because you're trying to contribute; we just don't think that what you've written belongs in the article about the GTVA, and it doesn't seem to fit in with the Wikipedia's general style.  Barring a few grammatical errors, it is a good summary of the Silent Threat plot (hell, it even makes it sound interesting, which is an accomplishment in and of itself :p); it just doesn't belong on Wikipedia.  Don't think that we're all knocking your work; after seeing that Pathways trailer, I'm really looking forward to playing the finished product. :)
Title: Can't help myself...
Post by: Cobra on September 24, 2005, 03:41:40 pm
it was till a Terran-Vasudan alliance, wasn't it? besides, i was told to put it there.
Title: Can't help myself...
Post by: Unknown Target on September 24, 2005, 04:17:10 pm
No, it wasn't. In fact, I remember specifically that the GTA and the PVN were still seperate entitities during Silent Threat, and that the entire thing was a rebellion by the GTA's Intelligence Division - NOT the SOC, which is what the GTVA uses.

Also, as an off-topic note: Having read through the various seperate descriptions of the GTVA's formation, it's struck me that the controlling entity in the GTVA is actually the Vasudans, not the Terrans, as we are generally led to believe. If you read it, it seems that the Vasudans come out of the Great War better than ever, while the Terrans are fractured and only unite when the GTVA is formed.

Post by: IceFire on September 24, 2005, 05:12:28 pm
The article seems to have the facts straight...its just the title thats wrong.

In Silent Threat, the GTA still existed...more or less.  There was a provisional government setup in Delta Serpentis (this is mentioned in the briefings).  After the events of Silent Threat, the GTA destabilized and fractured.  There were several smaller groups (usually by system) that competed and fought for a while.  Only when the Vasudans re-entered the game with Emperor Khonsu at the helm did things get better and eventually the BETAC treaty was signed.

This is all in the tech database of FS2.  Read it...alot of valuable history and information on what happened between FS1 and FS2 is there including the events of Silent Threat.

Cobra, I know you mean well...but in a community as small as ours, you've really got to get the facts straight when it comes to referencing cannonical works (i.e. stuff from the game).  Its just good form to check things over and be consistent.

If you were writing your own bit of fiction...go hog wild :D

That's a reaaaaaally nice way of putting it.

Good you beat me to it, because I was ready to do some "multi-paragraph tough love".

Thank you so much for contributing. We all know that bashing Cobra because it was what everyone did is the mature way of handling things.

Dude, cut the crap. If you've got a helpful response that doesn't involve a one-line attack against Cobra, then feel free to post. Help Cobra out, don't slam him. Everyone else here is giving constructive advice, which I sadly say that you are not going along with.

As for the article: I've been always trying to write up an article on the GTI Rebellion and Silent Threat, though I've never really gotten around to it (actually, I did, but when I submitted a multi-paragraph, well-thought-out article, it got eaten in transit by the Wiki). It would be interesting to have an actual definitive reference on the rebellion though, outside of a tiny blurb in the FS2 Tech Room Reconstruction entry.

What period of time does this write-up cover?

Uggh... I know at times I was bad, but I don't think I was ever quite as bad as this. At least I never held a grudge...

if you haven't noticed, [DW] outranks EVO in many cases, and EVO sucked anyways. you dragged me into the clan, and you wouldn't let me out anyway. :p

and i never 'hacked' your instant messenger or email accounts. nor the so-called 'sites that took you years (which, IIRC, on a freebie web account, come complete with page managers so you don't have to go through an html editor) to improve. Frankly, you don't even know the first thing about hacking. do you even know what hacking is? it's taking control of someone else's computer and sending trojans and/or viruses to it. the 'hacking' you're talking about is simply logging into an account. not hacking. AND i never 'hacked' (logged in) to any accounts.

case closed, let's get back on-topic.

*sigh*

Listen, I believe Cobra has been an idiot or has been annoying at times. That's all behind now. With the help of the HLP community, he's gotten to be a contributing member to the Freespace community.

Even if he was annoying and/or an idiot at times, I refuse to believe that he would do something as immature as hack someone's site. Cobra may lose his temper, but never to the point of either asking sometime to hack his site (*cough*Ephili*cough*) or hacking himself. Unless you have evidence, don't slam Cobra.

Now, besides run a clan that doesn't even hold any power anymore, what have you done? You show up and simply add to a flame war by slamming down on Cobra when you could settle this via PMs.

HLP is not the place to flaunt your ego. Now, if you would please leave, we would all be benefited.

Is it just me, or is there some sort of n00bish-attack virus going around? FS2freak got infected, and now it seems DW has fallen into it as well...
