I was bored so I decided to post this. What is your favorite villain of all video games. And I'm not just taking about a cool boss or whatnot, but someone you learn to actually hate in the game and was happy to finally kill him at the end of the game.
My favorite would have to be John Irenicus from Baldur's Gate 2. That guy was an absolute pain.
-
SHODAN
-
I'll go with (Infested) Kerrigan.
-
Kefka from FF6. He is the evilest of all villains. All other evil is derived from him.
-
In terms of most-hated villains, it'd have to be Walton Simons. I found that if you time a GL shot right you can kill him while he's still gloating at you - love doing that.
Another good one was William Dresari from MW4.
My favourite villian though, has to be the Director from NOLF2. One of the best-written villains of all time!
-
The Matron, from Evil Genius.
-
Pyramid Head.
-
Liquid Snake / Doctor Robotnik........ Equally evil.
Oh yeah and Bosch.
-
Dr Evil
-
me (i just like games where i get to be the bad guy)
-
Liquid Snake / Doctor Robotnik........ Equally evil.
I was going to say those two too!
What do they say about great minds! :D
-
Definitely Ba'al from Diablo II & Lord of Destruction. From deceiving Marius throughout the entire story to exploding that Barbarian gatekeeper, he's easily one of the best-developed villains in the Diablo series. Not to mention that incredible cutscene where he escapes, making off with a body made of tendrils that used to be the most powerful Mage in the land. Tendrils that are composed of awesome and win.
Oh, and the G-Man, considering that you never quite know which side he's on. The only thing that's obvious is that he isn't on yours.
-
In terms of hardest to kill I think it would be Gunther.
In terms of just not dieing no matter would I would think it would be Kane.
-
Sephiroth and Dr Robotnik (Eggman).
Hojo!!!! :headz: :beamz: :snipe:
-
In terms of hardest to kill I think it would be Gunther.
Assuming you mean Gunther Hermann from Deus Ex:
Agreed, but I didn't hate Gunther. I pitied him for his inability to cope with the changes going on around him. And I respected him as a serious adversary when he made his apprearance in the cathedral.
Until I learned you could make him self-destruct.
-
Kane and Revolver Ocelot (which now is partially Liquid so Liquid Ocelot or whatever Kojima calls it). Kane because he's Kane, one of the few villains that was smart to use a thing like the media over just guns: "He who controls the media, controls the world" it just says everything.
And Revolver Ocelot, he betrays everyone! He triple crossed the russians, backstabed the americans, Liquid and even the Patriots! I'll enjoy his death on MGS4 greatly.
-
Hitler, from Wolf3d!
Errr...

Ohhh..he was so a real villain. He had everything.I actually pittied him..Too bad you couldn't make him see reason. :(
Otehr great villians...Black Mage? ;7
Kane (C&C) - Oh I just HATED that guy. So irritating, so crazy and so persistent. Like a bloody roach.
-
Probably Kane, but limited to the first C&C. He's great in that game, but becomes angry and/or incoherent too often in the two newer games, which makes him lose some of his appeal.
Some runners up I can think of are Walton Simons, Bosch and the purple tentacle. :D

Serious adversary? There is a LAW right in the previous room. :p
-
Have you seen Hitler's death sequence in Wolf3d? It's absolutely beautiful.

He lost all pity from me when he stole my soul. :p
-
I think that the best written villian is Kreia (or Darth Traya, same person) from KOTOR II.
-
Axel Gear from Rocket Knight Adventures. :D
-
Yeah, Irenicus was definitely the best portrayed classic villain in any game. But that personality was mainly thanks to the voice of David Warner - the guy is the paragon of superbly delivered, menacing villainous monologue.
And SHODAN, easily. Dominant and twisted in the first one, manipulative and subtle in the second, yet the same flesh-hating personality all the way through.
Along the same lines but more humorous than SHODAN, Deidranna from Jagged Alliance 2. "Elliot, you IDIIIIIIOT!" :D
-
Whaddabouthitlerfromwolf3d?
-
The Matron is obviously the best villain.
-
This is yet another question where I can't give an exact "This one" answer, but as one example... Hector LeMans.
-
I thought he was a bit wussy to be honest. The other guy, Domino Hurley, was better.
-
Maybe, but I never saw Domino as an evil guy, but rather as a slick person, kind of like a used cars salesman. And, well maybe Hector wasn't all "Embryos my breakfast, fetus is my feast" either, but sort of cold, calculating and generally one of those who really aren't interested in anyone else's fate except for their own.
-
I'm surprised noone mentioned GladOS. :nervous:
-
Just one favorite?!?!? Blasphemy. Many favorites.
Favorite Villain Fight... the best one I can think of right off the bat would be Lavos from Chrono Trigger. It was challenging, the music rocked, and it had a -great- lead-up. Ganon from Zelda: OoT would be a close second. It just felt really epic (the whole tower and especially his final form).
Favorite Villain to hate... would be Tycho from Bungie's Marathon series. Its a pretty intricate story, but the short version is... he is an AI who switches sides, kills your AI, kidnaps you, and teleports you around to do his bidding as he manipulates you into having to kill your allies. If he were to be placed as a character into the Halo series, he would be somebody like a Covenant AI who was Cortana's rival - and he would get in your head and stuff.

It pained me to kill GLaDOS.
It just wanted to give me cake.
-
Favorite villain ? SHIVANS !
Or Kane from Tiberian Sun .
-

Pfft. Kreai was irritating as hell and you could see her betrayl coming for several galaxies away. It was so OBVIOUS she was the villain. and she gets no simphaty from me since she is a old crazy loon.
AS far as Irenicus goes - as much as deranges he was, all that was the result of his curse and his desperate search for a cure. Yeah, the actions he did were dispicable and the punishment was severe. But I started to think it might have been a bit too severe. He was desperately trying to get what he lost, but he didn't really enjoy any of the destruction and pain he caused. And yes...brilliant voice acting!
Along the same lines but more humorous than SHODAN, Deidranna from Jagged Alliance 2. "Elliot, you IDIIIIIIOT!" Big grin
Blimey! how could I have forgotten her! :LOL
"My Queen. the Mercenaries have been spotted on the outskirts of Meduna!"
"What? My God Elliot. they are practicly knocing on my door. How can this be? Perhaps I should have hired those mercenaries insted of the stups I call my soldiers!"
"You want me to extend them an offer my Queen?"
"ELIIOT YOU EEEEEDIOT!" * shoots Eliot in the head with a pistol*
"Joe! Follow me to the bunker. And clean up this mess!"
*cough* "I will do it myself my Queen *cough*
"Elliot? Are you so stupid you can't even die properly?"
"I will try harder my Queen."
lol

You know I'm quite surprised no one has said Derek Smart. :p

I'll agree with you that the betrayal was pretty obvious but i still think the character itself was well written. most of the KOTOR Series characters were, IMHO.

Are you referring to Not Derek Smart in JAD2, or has he made other appearances as well?
-
The Derek Smart that tried to buy the FS Franchise

Since you put the caveat that we had to "kill" them at the end, that restricts us from quite a lot of very good villains who's fate is uncertain/keep surviving. I'm going with Mobius and the elder god from the Legacy of Kain games, even though Mobius has been dead since the original (Time travel for the win! Also for the really confusing!) and you don't really "kill" the elder god (Kain did drive him off at the end of the last title in the series).
Heck, I'll throw Raziel into the mix, as he first reveres and then comes to despise the man he was before his vampiric rebirth/subsequent death/rebirth-as-an-unkillable-specter-that-eats-souls, to the point where you become your own killer (I renounce you. :Splortch!:).
Curse the apparent death of the series, now I'll never know how it all ends.
