--- Quote from: Lorric on September 14, 2018, 05:39:50 pm ---Well, I don't know right now what to expect from this or what can be expected of me either in this, but I want to have the option of joining in, so I'll just nip over to the WoD Forum Game threads to go get something I left there...

It will be self-explanatory as it goes on I think.

--- Quote ---I, Admiral Lorric and my beloved, undefeated 2nd CRF go to war for a third time.

I had logos for all my squadrons but they don't seem to be showing in the thread anymore. :(

Still, you only wanted a short post, and they'd have taken up a lot of space. That was my fleet for the rehearsal / beta test for the second iteration of Spoon's forum game, which unfortunately doesn't look like ever happening as nothing has been mentioned of it for the better part of 3 years.

This is good, but you should specify where you are starting off. Keep in mind you can choose to start off in a universe different from the origin of your fleet (this can be explained by strange subspace transits and dimensional displacements caused by the use of powerful technology elsewhere in the multiverse).

--- Quote ---As you can see, the fleet is rather one dimensional, but I think I should stick with it. Iirc the carriers themselves were strong enough to take more punishment than most fleet craft in the various player fleets, while the Lord class fleet carrier was capable of duking it out with just about anything. The weapons systems on the carriers are no joke but wouldn't be able to match up with a dedicated destroyer, though their compliment of strike craft would swing the balance. I had a big advantage at engaging from long range thanks to all the squadrons and the long range missiles on the carriers, and my fleet was more nimble than anything the other player factions could field, but if someone had managed to get their fleet in close from any of the other player factions I would have got mauled. So that's how my fleet works. Ideally I would work with someone else in this game who could cover for that weakness and get between me and that kind of enemy.
--- End quote ---

Keep in mind you can acquire new technology and ships from many sources as you explore.

--- Quote ---As for WoD tech itself, I think the Freespace Shivans that we've seen outside of the jugs would get mauled by WoDs Terrans. Unfortunately, it's clear the Shivans are bringing a lot more to the party than that.

--- End quote ---

Remember the Blue Planet techroom descriptions stating that most Shivan technology was deliberately hampered to perform far below its true potential. That's not the case anymore. With your starting fleets you will not have much of a chance against anything other than scouting forces - but if you play it smart, those are the only Shivan enemies you'll be fighting in the beginning, before you are ready for anything stronger. Think of it somewhat like your party leveling up in an RPG. Right now, you're at level 1. Get to level 99+ by sharing tech, scavenging, making deals and alliances, capturing enemies, etc.

Alright, I’ll be joining, too.

This time it’s not a fleet, but a single ship.
Universe: Babylon 5 Universe, exact date will be left open to the story teller, though it has to be after 2268 because of the White Star ship he’s commanding.

Last known location: A small station in orbit of Proxima III, Proxima System.

Name: John Fisher

Age: 37

Distinguishing features: Short brown hair, 185cm in height, athletic build, though a little bit out of shape due to bridge service. Born on Mars in a small town west of Olympus Mons on August 4th, 2232.

Profile:

Fisher grew up on Mars, living the life of a freelancer, smuggler and mercenary since he set foot on his first ship, the freighter Damocles in 2249. During the Shadow War and the Earth Alliance Civil War, he and his crew built up some reputation by smuggling essential spare parts, food and weapons for the resistance fighting a guerrilla war against Earthforce on Mars’ surface. As the conflict ended and the red planet finally was granted independence from Earth, Fisher moved across the galaxy, looking for trouble, fortune and money ever since. In 2268, he somehow got his hands on a damaged White Star class cruiser by gambling with some shady people on a small station somewhere in Centauri space. After spending some time to bring the ship back into fighting shape by using his old smuggling connections to gather weapon parts, blueprints and additional equipment, Fisher and his infamous gang of freelancers are looking for new adventures between the stars.

Ship: Nightfly

The Nightfly is an advanced cruiser with Vorlon bio-armor, artificial gravity and a nasty weaponry for its size. Like all White Stars, it is very maneuverable and also has the punch to take on single capital ships.

Class: Medium Cruiser, White Star class (though repurposed to fit the needs of Fisher and his crew)
Length: 475.6m
Crew: 50 (usually), but right now his crew only consists of 28 people.
Engines: Gravimetric Engines
Jump Capable: Yes
Gravity: Yes

Weapons:
1 Quantum Discharge Beam Cannon (Primary)
2 Neutron Cannons (Secondary)
12 short-range, fast firing Pulse turrets for increased protection against fighters and bombers (tertiary, installed after aquiring the ship)
Recently 2 torpedo tubes were also integrated in the hull by Fisher’s engineers, though this needs additional testing. Appropriate torpedoes also have to be acquired somehow

Defenses: Magnetic Discharge Beams, Vorlon defense system (yet to be fully tested, the two engineers of his crew still can’t get it fully operational)

Auxiliary Craft:
2 Kestrel Class Atmospheric Shuttles
2 Badger-class Starfury
4 SA-23E Mitchell-Hyundyne Starfury

EDIT: If necessary, the ship description and characteristics can still be changed. I hope this works for you and your ideas ;)
The starting location maybe will be changed. Since Fisher and his gang still didn't manage to discover every secret aboard the ship, their alien jump drive (I mean come on, it's a mix of Mimbari and Vorlon tech, right?) might let them strand in another universe, maybe close to another player

Lorric:
I don't know where to start. The Spooniverse got overrun so it's probably not a good idea to be there, or maybe it is if the Shivans think they got everything. I'd also like to see if more people join.

On the one hand you said it didn't matter much what you start with so how would I know what to get, or even go between universes in the first place? Could I say just decide to go grab this thing:

https://youtu.be/0WM7mNwzrCU?t=173

And tow it along with us?

I never actually played Blue Planet beyond Aquarius so I might need some help with relevant knowledge.

The transmission in the first part is from a later point in the timeline, but you can start earlier. Furthermore, the timelines can be changed - but time manipulation technology might play a part and make this complicated. Needless to say, you can start in any universe pre-Shivan invasion, unless they're already there in canon.

If it's not something that your group in-universe could have reasonably acquired then probably not. But don't worry - other players who decide to start in your same universe can help you, and lacking that, there will be other ways (both natural and artificial) to travel between universes, or multiversal travelers (even non-hostile ones) may visit you.

No problem.
