This one should be simple - I hope. Occasionally, I want to discuss a ship in a briefing, but keep the class of a ship secret from the player, either for suspense purposes, or because the commander offering the briefing doesn't know (i.e., he might say "a Shivan cruiser", but doesn't know if it's a Rak, Cain, Lillith or something new).
There are two new checkboxes in the briefing editor that would do the job:
1 - Force unknown - If this box is checked, the ship box (when you click on the icon) becomes the "unknown" rotating question mark, even if the icon isn't "Unknown"
2 - Unclickable - When this box is checked, if the player clicks on the icon, FS doesn't give him any ship box at all.
Obviously, either would work - both would be a bonus, and maximize the flexibility. Another nice (but utterly trivial) addition would be to add the ability to override the class name. This would be useful for example, if you selected "Force Unknown", but instead of "Unknown", you wanted it to say "Classified" when the player clicked on it.
So, any chance?

Ohh, these would be handy indeed.

can I ask why the unknown ship class option in the briefing editor is not a workable option?
-
It works much of the time. But there are definite situations where these would work better, such as the one described above with the cruiser.

:bump:
Any coders at all interested in doing this? It really would get used quite a bit I think. -I'm sure other FREDders than mjn would back me up on that.

Indeed.

I can't see this being too hard. I don't mind giving it a go, but you'll need to remind me to do it this weekend.
