Colossus wasn't that secret at all. Emperor Khonsu even made a public announcement about the start of the Colossus construction in 2345, on the tenth aniversary of the attack on Ross 128. Remember the Colossus cutscene?

Probably true.

I think it was only the movie that was clasified level rho, because it did have supposid schematics of the colossus, not just her capabilities and the fact she existed.

Most highly-classified military secrets seem to be designated by the last couple of letters; there is level upsilon (sathanas specs), level phi (Kappa 3 transmission), level psi (Mara specs when it was first encountered in the Vigilant attack) and level omega (shivan commnode).

And for a bonus point, say how many letters are used in science, and for what!

I can give where they are all used in math; almost every one is used somewhere in special function analysis... :D

Yeah, that makes sense. If you can't keep the existence of a ship being created by a couple dozen contractors secret (especially since the Vasudan Emperor mentions it publicly), at least keep its schematics under classified security.

I'd always assumed that the Colossus was secret. The Emperor probably made his speech in front of the contractors, maybe - in any case it was probably recorded for release when the Colossus was unvailed.

Do you not think that the big C would have been mentioned in the game? You know, "keep it up lads, just a couple of weeks till the Colossus comes to save us", etc. Knowing about the Colossus would have inspired the Allies to keep fighting during the darkest days of the rebellion. However, it never got mentioned at all.

Now, presumably Bosch knew about it. Did he a) try to saboage it and fail, b) ignore it, knowing that he couldn't do anything about it anyway or c) he didn't think they'd get it online so fast...

I think maybe c) was involved. Maybe they rushed the final stages of construction and testing. You know the sort of thing there's 5 years left until we launch the thing but, oh look the NTF have just sprung up, lets work a bit harder to finnishes they thing ahead of time.

And also remember that Bosch wasn't intrestted in controlling a few NTF worlds. He was using the NTF so he could find and activate the Knossos and contact the Shivans. For all he cared the Big C could destroy the NTF, so long as he contacted the Shivans.

I think maybe that was more of a game surprise issue. On the other hand how would they get in a reference without it sounding like it was crowbared in. Then again maybe everyone knew that the Big C was soon to be ready. OK that last point is a bit silly and I don't believe it myself, but it does have to be pointed out.

I always assumed that the Big C wasn't secret at least in the fact that it was being build etc. Design secrets, turret numbers etc would be kept under wraps etc. After all, a project like the Big C is a great moral booster.

Discuss.

So, pretty much option b, then :)

I mean, :v: could have made some great missions using the run up to the Colossus deployment... imagine defending the construction yards, or holding out at an outpost under a massive NTF attack, knowing that the Big C is about to rescue you if you can just hang on... you'd be waiting to see the NTF ****e themselves as your uber-warship drops out of warp and opens a can of whup-ass...

Yeah, these are the wing names from FS1; the Hindu ones were made obsolete in FS2.
