Flying a bomber on insanity-level is equal to signing your death sentence. :D
But overall, it was quite enjoyable, albeit flawed by several cases of "hacked files", so no stats could be saved. What brings me straight to the point: I fear i have no opportunity to get rid of that: I tried every solution i came across in the according topic (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267), and even my logfile shows that the checksums of the tables are identical - everything should be fine, yet it isn't.
So i'd suggest you to add a hint to my game on sunday, that stats won't be saved for known reasons. Maybe i should make this into a pure newbie-game anyway - i felt a bit overwhelmed yesterday by the sheer difficulty level.

Oh, and stat saving likely won't work for me either way - no idea whyRogue tables (even ones such as the stars.tbl for lightspeed's nebulae) and/or incompatible mediavps. Safe thing to do is grab the mission vps from the sticky, make a seperate mod directory with just those, and use that as a mod when playing online. That way, all factors other than the data directory are taken out of the equation.
One more update: I just did a new installation (basic stuff only) via Turey's installer, purely for MP-purposes, and it fixed the "hacked tables"-problem. The according hint can be deleted then. :P
I just noticed something. Since I'm GMT -5, it should be read as Sundays from 3-7am. I always forget to move the days forward.
And the like 60 fighters in the screen at oen time. And yet we nearly had it. Just gotta be a bit faster at taking out the main turrets on the heavier warships and we keep the corvette alive. 5% more health when the final destroyer jumps in and we got it.
[Edit] Also interesting to note that in the beginning, we actually had more players there than the game supports. And this stuff is only just getting started :)
That was really fun :) And CP, that mission of yours is crazy. First time I've run out of respawns, though half of those were due to the AI camping the respawn point :p

Something freaky just happened. My computer crashed, for some strange reason. I started it back up and tried to join the game again as observer. FreeSpace crashed on me and it says "FreeSpace has encountered an error and must close blablabla." Then I tried again, and then it said "cannot join because another person is trying to join the game at this time. Try again later". Then, after a while, it said "Join request rejected because identical player is already playing." For the rest of the Sirius blockade mission, it did that for me. Then, after the game had ended and I turned off my Laptop, it said "Online Users: Snail"...
Meh, I think it was an overheat
I guess I am becoming infamous for this kind of thing. It was also one of the most fun missions, because it was so hectic. So it's a good kind of crazy.
I ended up with 59Wow. I think I had 4 fighter and 1 warship kills, plus assists on the remaining warships. And all but one of the fighters were just trebs I lobbed off while getting into bombing range, though I did dogfight one because the bastard wouldn't leave me alone :p
There will be another session later tonight, so hopefully we'll get a nice turnout again.Really? I better take a quick nap then so I can play again, having too much fun with these sessions to miss it. Just having someone to ***** at when you get rammed by an arriving capship makes such a difference ;)
On the plus side though, you can rack up kills very quickly when the Vasudans swarm that respawn area. I ended up with 59.

QuoteCole, what did you do with the games I put in at the end of August?

I will not be in town next week (19th to 25th) so if someone wants to do this for the week, post here and then contact that person to have them put you as host.
Definitely. First tries with 3-4 people aren't really something we should expect medals from.
Hell's Kitchen seems all about positioning, need to be in the right place at the right time to disarm and tag the baddies before they can do much damage and you're good to go. I mean, I came across the Ravana by accident - I saw fighter beams going off from the friendly corvettes, all aimed at the same area, and wondered what they were shooting at, so I went and had a look. But even then I nearly managed to tag it before it opened fire, so if one of us had actually been there when it arrived, we'd had plenty of time to kill the front beams.
By the way, I found it really helpful when people who spotted a bomber or priority target (like escape pods) arriving made a quick shout about it. It's easy to get caught up chasing fighters and miss the arrival of more dangerous targets, so it helped me get on the job faster than I otherwise would have. Keep doing that.
Here is the original schedule I wrote up. I don't know if he just ignored it or changed it a lot, though.

Well, that has no new games on it and is outdated now. The basic format we have is the same. Are you planning to host one or something?
I will have time to play in the middle of this week, but we should probably just stick to weekends to get the maximum number of people. I won't be here on Friday and possibly Saturday morning, but will be back in time for the Saturday game. I might start a bit earlier (maybe 9:00 or 9:30) to give us more time to play, although I will hold off updating the schedule just yet as I don't know exactly when I will return home.
Not sure what you're talking about. We never had games scheduled on those days, although I can certainly add them to the calendar if people are interested.

Well, those are just random days and times. I thought that was a sample of the basic idea. If we haven't got a host or players, there is no point in putting them up on the first post.
Who is this "someone" and what exactly is the work? Credit for what? The schedule on the first post is nothing more than a simple way for us to keep track of upcoming games. I think you are making it into something more elaborate than it needs to be.
Mind if I add it in?
Shade, it looks like you want to host, post in the other topic with your stats.I will, once I've got a less fluid schedule to work with :) Well, actually, posting the stats now can't hurt I guess. I'll do that, even if I'm not sure when I'll be hosting yet.

For making an ornery Cajun wait more than twenty minutes, Command is proud to present you with The Medal of Tardy Bravado.
I'll make an image for it later.
We had a few nice games just now but the peak time of activity definitely seems to be around 10:00 GMT, when we often get 8 players. Is anyone interested in having another game today (9/2) around then? This might be the last weekend for a while on which I'll be able to host.
sleek, if you read this... it wasn't me. :/
EDIT: back up... I had to restart FS2.
Sorry, guys, but i fear time trips me up for tonight - i fear i'll be unable to host my game, but I'll let cole know when i'm ready to host again.
Again, sorry. Have a good time anyway!
You're probably using some mod, which needs to be disabled. It will only work with retail FS2 data and without media VPs.

Wasn't you ? Holy royal ****. Who was it ?
@MercFox1: can you join the HLP IRC server?
Is there anyone intrested in playing a Multiplayer BTRL game
You guys should post on the IRC when you're having a round. :p I missed it!I'll try to remember to make a quick shout when I host another time. Wouldn't have done much good today, though - We were hitting the player limit as it were. That is something I would have considered highly unlikely to happen just two months ago, but it's been happening a lot lately. Enough, in fact, that the limit is actually starting to... hurt. A little bit. MP gaming is definitely picking up.

If no one is getting the popupdead message I'll remove the hack and submit the code to CVS.Can you wait until after Saturday? That's our big game day, and I'm not sure if many people have actually been testing it out much yet. I certainly know I haven't played any games during the week, simply haven't had the time.
Are you interested in hosting, Kara?
Where can I find him? If he hosts everyday then I will put him on the calendar.QuoteIf no one is getting the popupdead message I'll remove the hack and submit the code to CVS.Can you wait until after Saturday? However, you might want to ask Psychoo - He's been hosting games most days, and getting a decent attendence both from his 303 squadron as well as others (his games are open to all, which is nice. They're damn nasty to play against, though, which is not so nice :p), so if he or any of his participants have been using your build without problems then that should more than cover it as far as testing goes.
Not really. I very rarely play online except for bug testing purposes.Pity, it's a blast :) Some of those coop missions can get incredibly tense and exciting, when everything is hitting the fan. A few of them are also conspicuously poorly FREDded though, so you'd probably be screaming at the heavens in disbelief at how these things ever got validated few times... I know I did :p
I have had the same problem with my multi.log file being almost 100MB.
We finished playing due to a myriad of errors such as "A pilot with this name is already ingame".
[Edit] And running, it is. Please use Kara's popupdead build if you can. Testing = good, and it won't affect gameplay.
I'm pretty sure that he was on yesterday afternoon, too.Quote[Edit] And running, it is. Please use Kara's popupdead build if you can. Testing = good, and it won't affect gameplay.
I'll try to come in a hour or so. Need to go out right now. Is the "Tantalus 53" your game?
Kara: In 10 games and nearly 1 GB of log files, I managed one hit of your popupdead check. If you need it, I can attach the part of the log where it appears.
As for tonight's games, they went great :) Good showing, a good medal harvest and several promotions for various people. All in all, an excellent night :) Except for my occasional crashing, but thankfully it was only during the forming stages and never in-mission.
@Shade and kara: I get the double respawn but no popupdead.
CP: Yeah, we did surprisingly well on that mission. As for medals, you may be close to a full case (as am I, I'm only short the SOC Crest compared to you. Beat STV Gauntlet yesterday after you left :)), but with the amount of people showing up for games now I think we can be pretty sure that we'll have something to aim at for quite a while yet ;)
@CP5670: Try playing earlier in the afternoon. At one point with Hippo hosting we had 11 players.
What, did you get pinged 100km by the Sathanas?
The limit for co-op missions is 8 anyway.
I would eventually like to have beaten all of the co-op missions once, medal or not. I think there are something around 70 of them in total. That sounds like a fun challenge. A very difficult one, but fun :)
What, did you get pinged 100km by the Sathanas?Exactly! And right after the collision my Boa was speeding way past 1000 m/s :D
All of the currently released missions for multi are 8 player or less with the exception of FS2 - Black Omega. So it's no wonder you can't move anything to Gamma wing. None of them are marked Player Start.
You still get the medal if you call in the reinforcement wing, right?Yep. Just need the Shai and the Renenet to survive. I might be up for one or two games tonight to give it a shot, but I won't be playing until 3am like yesterday :p
Hey, I want to report myself as a host :).

GIANT WOODEN RABBITThat's so what I'm gonna call the game ;)
Am helping someone get his FS2 set up... someone told him he couldn't run it because his processor was too fast....How did he come to this conclusion?
/me pukes.
Been around, but there's noone else I've seen. Might be the summer/winter time change that's messing it up (we actually only just hit 10pm GMT 15 minutes ago ), but then again people might just be busy.
My GPS did that a week ago when I was in the middle of nowhere. :hopping:
To make things more confusing, the DST dates have changed this year for most of the US and Canada. Windows apparently doesn't know this and has been automatically setting the clocks on my computers back a week in advance. :p

On a side note, I would suggest you remove the ASCII graphics in that signature. It's making your posts annoying to read or scroll through, including the schedule. :p There is a reason signature images are disabled around here.I spent two hours making that!
So I sprained my ancle today. It hurts a lot and I can barely make it to the fridge in one stretch. That's bad :( However, my work involves tons of walking and running up and down stairs which means I've no choice but to stay at home until it mends itself. At home wiith my computer. That's good. A computer which has a working FS2 install and fast internet access. That's shiny :)I thought that you said uncle! What job do you have?
What I'm getting at here is that there's a considerable risk of me running games at random times for the next 3-4 days until my ancle can once again passably imitate the particular type of movement known as a 'step'. So pay attention to the FS2Net website or the game viewer if you're interested in some weekday FS2 multi-gaming. Now, there's also a considerable risk of me flying rather worse than usual due to the awkward position the joystick needs to be in to allow me to put my leg up on the table, but hey, one can't have it all.
What job do you have?I work in the postal service. 8 hours a day in a combination of standing, running, biking and stairclimbing... not exactly the best thing for a sprained ankle :p

comes with cable TV which I don't use at allHeh, I've got the exact same attitude towards cable TV. I have it, but I don't use it. Here, it's not a matter of a cable line being cheaper along with TV though, it's simply a matter of it only being available period if you've got cable TV already. And since I can't opt out of cable TV where I live, it's the best choice for the money. In fact, just about the only times I use my TV is when Great Big Disasters happen somewhere in the world, or to watch DVDs. For everything else, like news, weather, etc., I use the computer.

Bell doesn't actually approve of this, but my dad works for them and they screw him over every day, so he doesn't have any qualms about screwing them over. ;7 And what's more, when we stopped paying for cable, Eastlink forgot to disconnect it and we've had free cable for 2 years.
Ouch. I'd rather be limping than blind. I guess that if it worst comes to worst, you could always just forget about the frame and tape the actual lenses in front of your eyes... it would look bloody ridiculous but at least it would let you study :p
Wow I just had the best game ever with HBK... I also got 120+ kills... WOot! Not in 1 game though but in some gauntlets and stuff :) I am so happy
javascript:void(0); prays for lots of pplYou don't copy what it says when you mouse over the icon, you click the icon.
8 mega minimum and maybe the possibility of 20 mega , starts drooling ..................I doubt that'd happen, I know it wouldn't happen to my house, and if you're in the middle of the woods...
By the way, we got a rare opportunity with nine players at one point in the game, and tried out the Black Omega mission, which is the only 12 player co-op mission in the list. The mission itself is a joke, but the game seemed to handle nine people perfectly well (one guy didn't appear to get the medal but that could be an unrelated issue, as I've seen it before with other people playing their first mission).
It's possible 12 player co-op has been supported ever since retail, but nobody knew about it until now. I remember some requests for 12 player co-op missions many years ago but I don't think any mission designers ever really considered the possibility. It was sort of taken for granted that co-op missions would have a max of 8 players.
And it's all the more sweet a victory because we had to actually think and plan ahead to get it, setting out kill orders for the capships, designating who would disable which transports, picking strategic positions before taking the first shot, disarming ships then leaving them alone to concentrate on other targets, and drawing out the fight to kill off all the enemies before finally calling in our own transports. Rarely is there a need for that kind of battle planning in a game like this, but this mission called for it and everyone came through with a flawless performance. It feels really, really good to win after that much effort :D
is there anywhere in the forums a brief walk through of the multi missions? No, but I'm actually working to eventually add something like that to the wiki. It's slow going though, since I don't have a lot of free time at the moment and what I've done so far is by no means ready for public viewing.
and is there any way i can play the multi missions alone just to get a feal of them and without having to be onlineYou can play them alone, but you do need to be online unless you feel like editing the mission files. Just host a game as normal and commit without waiting for other players, and you can play alone. The stats won't save, but you can practise all you like.
For the moment, I think the best way to deal with this is to modify the missions that already have a gamma wing and make those player ships.Yeah. It's a stopgap measure, but that's better than nothing :)
Yeah. It's a stopgap measure, but that's better than nothing :)
So anyway, to speed it along, I've made a very quick and probably very dirty 12 player conversion of R & B Allover. Only changes are that the reinforcement wing (Delta) has been replaced with a 3rd player wing (Gamma), the addition of a small extra wing of hostile ships that only appears when there are 9+ players, and small changes to the filename and description to tell it from the original. It's untested and possibly quite unbalanced with the higher player numbers, but here it is.
What we need is missions with 16+ player support. That is, if this keeps up.
Just in the interests of changing the mission as little as possible, maybe you could keep the third wing from appearing at all unless there are more than 8 peopleGood idea, I'll take a look and see if that's possible. Not now though, too tired for real sexp wrangling, I can only do simple-minded slave labour like changing wing names and such ;)
Do you know who runs the FS2Net server? We would need to contact them to validate anything. We could perhaps also tell them to remove Black Omega while they're at it, since I'm almost certain that mission was never validated on PXO.That would be taylor. But really, none of these conversions should be validated until we've given them several thorough playthroughs and have gotten the balance right. Once that's done though, a couple of PMs is probably all it will take, as the multi log for the host will show the needed validation checksums. Black Omega definitely has to go though, or at least change dramatically. Right now it's a disgrace :p
BTW is this an every Saturday event? If so what time frame?Yes. 9pm to 1am GMT, give or take a bit.
Another one, this time The Die is Cast. Added a 3rd player wing, rebalanced by completely removing trebs from the loadout, which I suspect might almost make up for the extra players in this particular mission. Also removed the medal since it's one of the uniques and that shouldn't be changed by anything but a brand new mission.

I meant to code it in.QuoteWhat we need is missions with 16+ player support. That is, if this keeps up.I think 12 players is an actual limit with the netcode. The game code only supports 12 players in co-op anyway, if for no other reason than that you can't fit more than 12 ships on the selection screen.
A 16 player TvT should be possible in theory, but I have no idea if it would work.
I think the lack of trebuchets might make it impossible even with 12.You might well be right. With maxims available and an ample supply of tempests though, I'm guessing that it's doable. Maybe :p

/me looks at kara.
At some in the future, we should probably look over the existing missions and fix the most glaring bugs in them (like the unprotected freighters in Robin Hood), and maybe also remove some stuff that doesn't really belong there (Black Omega and one or two others).I'm with you on that. Most of those fixes are 5 minute jobs for bugs that should never have gotten through alpha-testing anyway :p
It should work. You may need to mess around with port settings somewhere though. Although wireless networks in general have a fairly high latency and are not ideal for gaming.
@FUBAR-BDHR: 3.6.10 working fine with FS2NetD, it's just that it requires the new server to work and so everyone playing needs to use a 3.6.10 build in order for everybody to play. The only times that it doesn't work is when no one bothers to tell me that the FS2NetD server stopped responding (crash, hang, etc.) and it goes unnoticed by me until I happen to check on it at some random point.
Could have sworn you told me the 3.6.10 build servers would not show up on FS2netD or was that just for the standalone test build you sent me eons ago?In early test builds there was a situation there, unless you are simply referring to the website. The website can only list games from one daemon, but for normal builds there are two (one for 3.6.9 and one for 3.6.10). Until 3.6.10 actually gets released (or usage of 3.6.9 multiplayer drops off, whichever comes first) I'm just leaving the website monitoring the 3.6.9 daemon. That means active games from 3.6.10 don't show up on the website. But, 3.6.10 also has the lobby, so you can just get in there and chat if you want while waiting to start up a game (assuming there aren't any more bugs in that part of the code anyway).
Great I'll have to toss up a standalone or 2 tomorrow and see what happens. Any particular build I should be using?Just which ever one works best for you. There will be a new Xt build this week which does address some bugs in the multiplayer code, but I can't say exactly what day that will get released.

OK there should be a standalone out there running the 10-28t build. I'd like to know if anyone can see it. It's on a computer I've never tested FS2 over the internet on. Hoping I have it configured right.Sorry, the daemon crashed almost right away. :(
Also notice a possible problem. The server shows up when I run TBP multi.Anything running on the same daemon will show up, regardless of the mod in use.
I would use one of 3.6.10 builds but I think that would only create problems at this point, since we get a number of people who aren't registered here and would suddenly have trouble joining. It's best to just stick with 3.6.9 for our regular sessions until the official 3.6.10 release. After release is too late. If you don't make full use of it now, and report any problems, then any problems you have with 3.6.10 now are only going to get worse when it's finally released. I'm not saying that you should use it exclusively, but you need to use it as heavily as possible.

A question: I just got a second-hand IBM Deathstar from my dad's office. It's from March 2000 and it's 32 GB. How reliable (or unreliable) are these? I ask because that's where FSO would go.
Check what series it's from. If it's 60GXP or 75GXP, those are the bad ones. I have a dead one in my basement somewhere. The others should be okay. How do I find that? It's not on the label AFAICT.

is there any way to make this show up on the FS2net viewer, i can see me on the website but i dont see me on the viewer, i use the viewer because i can chat while waiting or have i read this wrong and i need to download a new fs2net viewer....; if so where do i get it,That's totally up to the person that does the viewer.
I can't seem to get through to FS2Net when using a 3.6.10-based build. Do I need to change the port in the config file or something like that? I feel just like a noob again :pThe old config file is ignored, and the current connection values are hard-coded in the test builds. But, it does connect to a different IP address (technically just "hard-light.net"), so check that your firewall isn't blocking it.

Is there any particular build that we should be using?Whatever works. The FS2NetD code in my Xt builds has been largely unchanged in almost a year, so it should work with any available Xt build. Most any build tagged at "3.6.10" should also work.
[Edit again] The 10-28 3.6.10 build lets me log on, and shows me in the 3.6.10 Beta category on the website. Still, I wonder why the newer build isn't playing ball. Do you have one that isn't 2 months old I could try? I can't find any newer than the 12-07 one.I'm not sure if this is it or not, but at some point I did change the Xt builds to work with the config file again. It's possible that this is the problem, going by the log file, and the 10/28 build was probably right before the switch. The config file is the same as with retail, meaning that it's "multi.cfg", so see if that file exists. If so then you can either try removing it and the hard-coded values will be forced, or just try replacing it with the attach cfg instead. Except for the addition of the "+server_port" option it's the same options as with retail. All of the options are used, even if the specific feature happens to be disabled in the build you may be using, so it is important to have it all set properly.

Minor peeve though - I'd like cancel on the game screen to drop you back to the lobby instead of back to the main hall, but hey, it works!I'd prefer it that way too honestly. I am trying to restore retail behavior on all of that though. I asked before in the forums whether or not it went back to the lobby or the mainhall in retail and never got a straight answer. I've got no problems changing it though.
I can't seem to break it, either. Guess that's either good or bad depending on whether you need it to crash to find that bug or not :p Looks like all the basic stupidities are accounted for.Yeah, I do need it to break. And of course, now it won't break. The fact that it hasn't seems to indicate that the problem is a memory overwrite though, since all of the extra debug info I added could easily have hidden a memory overwrite again, whereas a rogue packet should have demonstrated the same crashing. I'll eyeball the code and hopefully get lucky.
I think we should use 3.6.9 today for the last time, and tell everyone to get a 3.6.10 build for next week at the end of our session. This topic only came up two days ago and some people won't be aware the change yet.
We should also stick with the same 3.6.10 build to minimize compatibility problems. Taylor's 10/28 XT build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,50258.0.html) seems like the best choice from what I'm seeing, although I haven't been following the changes in builds that closely.
The 2/15 build isn't really something you want to give outNoted. No need for it anyway given the cmdline to enable the lobby on earlier builds.
I found it amazingly difficult to test IRC related issues with just one personPM me if/when you need a second person for said testing, I'd be happy to oblige if it'll get everything working faster :) This also applies if you need extra people for any other kind of testing, by the way.
you do have the shader pack, right? You know... I bet I don't. It makes sense for it to be some stupid, silly mistake like that. I've just been grabbing new builds as I saw them go up and trying them out, and I think 10-28 is the latest 'public' one (as in, posted in the recent builds forum) you've done. Thanks, one less worry :)
I really just need to do a lot of security type stuff, and to make sure that everything is sorted by channel correctly. Security wise, you shouldn't be able to any sort of op status or anything, no file transfers, or any other typical IRC things. For the channel setup we really need like 12+ people to jump on and see what happens.QuoteI found it amazingly difficult to test IRC related issues with just one personPM me if/when you need a second person for said testing, I'd be happy to oblige if it'll get everything working faster :) This also applies if you need extra people for any other kind of testing, by the way.
You cannot format a volume larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size using the FAT32 file system during the Windows XP installation process. Windows XP can mount and support FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB (subject to the other limits), but you cannot create a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB by using the Format tool during Setup. If you need to format a volume that is larger than 32 GB, use the NTFS file system to format it. Another option is to start from a Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk and use the Format tool included on the disk.
Believe me, I've tried that. About tonight's game: There's no new 3.6.10 build out, so I see no reason to refind the bugs we found last weekend. However, if noone minds I'd like just one game running 3.6.10 with in-game joining enabled in the launcher, as I'd like to try joining a game in progress and see how far it has come. And get a good, useful debug log after it crashes, probably :p
Sounds good to me. That should probably only take a few minutes. Make sure you have the ingame joining command line flag enabled though. It may be necessary for both the host and clients to have it on.
Yes. But rarely check boards while playing so http://fs2netd.game-warden.com/ is a good site for finding out :)That's how I swing.
How did the in-game joining go?
Cool, I got the missions. :)Dont tell me your games are going to start being even earlier?! Yargh I just missed out on your last game this time :(
The Talon_m01b one can be dropped by the way. I had converted the Gamma wing in it into player ships, without realizing that it was originally only 6 players and I had only managed to bump it up to 8. :p
Also, one thing to keep in mind is that the annoying daylight savings time changes start tomorrow at midnight. Depending on where you live, this may actually happen during our games. Note that we will start playing exactly four hours from now.
Lest I forget, here's the 1.0 version of the capital gauntlet mission. The escort list problem is fixed and there's a slight change to loadout (maxims are out, they gimped the cruisers too much and completely defeated the point of the cruisers being there in the first place), plus a little bit of polishing on the briefing, and with that I'm ready to call it done :)
I see what you're talking about now, and I have had ideas for something like this too. However, it would be better if this could be done in the co-op framework. A TvT mission like this will result in various oddities like the other wing showing up as hostile and a winner being declared in the end, and you would have to select your team before you see the objectives or loadouts at all. The only reason it needs to be TvT is the respawn targets, which can be specified per team but not per wing. It probably shouldn't be too hard for the coders to add in that capability though, if we're seriously looking at building such missions.
I was thinking of having a 12 player mission somewhat like this, with two larger ships (corvette, freighter convoy, etc.) approaching a friendly installation from opposite directions but starting off very far away from it, 25km or more. Each wing would start near one large ship and defend it from various incoming enemies. As the mission progressed, the escorted ships (and the players) would all converge, allowing for some sort of large, final battle at the end. Your wing placement would determine which ship you start near, and the wing starting positions would be sufficiently far apart that you're forced to carry out the objectives for your specific wing until the ships get near the installation. That was essentially the generic mission idea I had in mind a few weeks ago, although I probably wouldn't have gotten it off the concept stage even if it was currently doable.
Well it depends, if the mission is in two different parts of the universe for each team, it will be a lot better to use the TVT mode, the who win and who lose thing is not that important, and the orders to AI wings is a very important issue, in coop mode everyone can give orders to everyone, but that shouldn't be possible if the other wing is about 500km away, and the loadout and briefing is also a issue, using tvt you can set both groups to have different loadouts, briefing (and mission objectives), and as target the others are really not important, its careless if they are hostile. (actually i never tried to have both teams in as "friendly", i don't know what happens if i do that, one problem will be the comm orders to wings.
Here's the zip I promised to post just before the forums went down on saturday. Includes 12-player versions of Red & Black Allover, Checkmate and The Die is Cast (R&B has a balance tweak compared to last version which did nothing but increase the player number, hence its inclusion here), plus a version of Capital Gauntlet that actually includes an RTB directive. Just unzip to the data/missions dir and overwrite anything that's already there.

Taylor - will PAY u to fix the stat server so it works everytime!Using a 3.6.10 build there shouldn't be a server-side reason for it not to work any longer. If it doesn't work in 3.6.10 builds then it should be client-side, with missing CRCs for tables or the mission. The multi.log file helps figure that out though, so if it doesn't work in a 3.6.10 build then send me that log file and I'll see what the problem might be.

It's not fixable in 3.6.9 builds any more than it already is though. At least not without breaking compatibility (which is what I did for 3.6.10 builds).
i still cant login to 3.6.10 here is my multi log from last night(3.6.10 one try) 3.6.9 the game and this morning 3.6.10 with an error (probably a time out message) hope this helps......Give it another try, should work this time. It was a memory allocation error but it should be properly squashed now.
I was just thinking about FS2 ports. Now that the lobby is back do any other ports need to be opened up? I remember retail required port 7117 as well.Yeah, the lobby still uses 7117 (TCP). I thought about changing that but decided against it.
Just tried clicking on Pilot info in the lobby. The getting player stats window comes up and never goes away until you hit cancel.Hmm, Mantis it and I'll take a look before the weekend. The client-side code looks ok so I'm guess that something broke on the server side.
Has the multi log file size been fixed? Just noticed that my standalone had a really high ping. Checked and the log file was over 12meg. Soon as I wiped it out the sever ping went back to 26. I don't remember when I wiped it out last but even so that is quite big. There are generic update messages that get sent every few minutes, so if you leave it running for a long time then you will get a pretty large log file before long. I already have it on my list to tone those down a bit though. Next time you get a really big file like that send a compressed copy my way and I'll double check that there isn't some new bug that needs to be dealt with.
What would happen if I deleted the multi.log while the server was up? Thinking of scheduling an event say once a week to wipe it. Not now of course but when things pick up.Not sure really. It will be an open file, so Windows may very well not let you delete/rename it, or even edit it for that matter.
Well, are you willing to host 3-4 hour games every weekend? You haven't been around much recently. Shade and a few others are regulars at our game sessions, but I'm not sure what their connections are like. That's basically because of a ****load of OS problems, but I fixed them now. FSO is all set up. Which build should I use?
I can start a game in it, but it won't let me into the lobby (it gets hung up on "logging into parallax online"). Is it working for you?
[edit] I'm going back to 3.6.9 for now so we don't lose any people. We'll decide what to do there.
Hey everyone, Im online n hostin a game, come on in for some fun...
the lobby takes ages to load up, it feels like it bugs but eventualy it loads , but it doesnt show any games just the ppl in the lobby, ( taylor can you check this)...... (and can you explain the media vps issue, in 3.6.10 if i use them my stats dont save , but then again my stats dont save in 3.6.9 without mediavps) ........There is a bug in the chat server that causes the lobby to take so long to load up. It started after I made some changes to fix a couple of Mantis bugs, but I haven't been able to figure out why the changes that I made would have caused the problem. I know that it's a pain, but nothing is really broken for anyone, so it hasn't been a priority to fix. Once I get time I'll setup a local debug session and fix the problem, but I have gotten really swamped with work here recently so I haven't had a chance to really do much FSO related in a while.
*Snorts in indignation* - How dare anyone insult taylor the Lord, the Creator, our Saviour...BUT THE CHAT SERVER IS SLOW!!!
Dear All,
I will be hosting the game tonight cos Shade's away again. 9pm GMT! Does anyone wanna do 3.6.10 or shall I do 3.6.9!
See u tonight!

When I try to join a server it says "You have been rejected because the game is not in an appropriate state to accept" what does that mean?
Good, but needs work. When I try to join a server it says "You have been rejected because the game is not in an appropriate state to accept" what does that mean?
It depends. You see...you will always receive that message when the server is : playing, briefing, or debriefing.
In game joining is not possible (at least at the moment I think).
You can only join a server if it is forming.
HAH, how's that for helping people Lobo, Cole, and all you other helpers???? (I'm on my way :D)

So I go to the browser button on top of the launcher and change to fs2_open_3_6_10-20071007T ? I did that and the graphics don't look any differetn, and in which version do people play more?

QFT. But don't try more than once or twice, or it will spam the game with 2 messages each time. You can only join a server if it is forming.
In 3.6.10 builds those playing will get a message that someone knocked if they try to join a game which is already playing (or at least the server will. Can't remember if the players do). So if you're expected you might want to try to join once even though you won't succeed in order to let people know you're there.
Would a Multiplayer Portal on the Wiki be a good idea?Perhaps first checking the wiki to see if there already is one and has been for nearly a year would be a good idea? ;)
Good game Ceze, Wedge, Blue Lion, and Tarantula. ;)
Yeah, in order for stats to save you have to use a recent build, of which 3/14 is not. I think that the newest kara build is the only legal one, having the new assist code.
I'll be drinking in the lobby for awhile if anyone is up for a few.
3.6.10 in the lobby

Hiya shade! is that 3.6.10!?
He's telling andicirk that he has to kill any soccer players and keep cricket alive.
Shade - have u managed to fix ur comp yet!!!Just now :) New PSU installed and working. And working quietly - I'm sitting right next to the box and I can not hear it. At all. And I cleaned the CPU heatsink while I had the box open anyway so it even runs cooler too :D

Mr. GOOBER5000 sir!!! How/where did you make/get that awesome phoenix Medal (I think)?
Alas...could this be the end of FS multiplayer? :confused:Yes, its the end #7035, give or take a few :)
hi um i was wondering when is there a game for fs2 up? i mean i read the first post but i have no idea what to do as to join a game or what time it is there i am kinda lost and i really wanna play against a human
The best way to connect is just through the game itself though. Connections via standard IRC clients was mainly just for testing and interest reasons, and will be disabled in a few months (poses too much of a security and maintenance problem otherwise).
No because a while ago I was on the IRC channel there was like 15+ people in there chatting away. Soz...yeah...

I like the irc too....you can look at the logs to see what are the times with more pple around
I'm hosting a 3.6.9 mediaVP standalone with that latest build if anyone wants to play on it... I'm downloading the latest 3.6.10 beta ones and will start another standalone with that soon.
My upload is throttled on a per-connection basis so it's really much higher than the sites report. Let me know if anyone has any problems with it.

Still does it even if I have Windows Firewall turned completely off.
[edit]
It might be because I'm behind a router, my NIC is reporting an IP address of 192.168.1.123... , and the force IP address thing in the launcher just isn't working. So clients are trying to find my server by 192.168.1.123 rather than my real address that I put in Force IP address. I wish I had some way to verify
My god, according to first post, its gotten 10x more complicated then it was before. /head ache
Heading to the lobby. I'll be using Taylor's multi_test build from 11/09 http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,57717.0.html
If I don't answer give me a few minutes I'm doing some work while waiting and the tunes are too loud to here the lobby entry noise.

Okay, I was just wondering if I was supposed to see the same four channels every time. Thanks.
EDIT: So, for example, if I wanted to join the Saturday night game (Sunday morning here), it would be on one of those channels? (Eleh, Lenele, Wolong or Masad?) Or would a different channel show up?
After harassing my router for an hour and reading the instructions I am now multiplayer compatible. Wheee...
I await a session.
Question: Should I bother to haul out my dusty old PC mic or is keyboard communication possible
I Deleted my SCP files a while ago and I just found out I need the retail to get it back.Incorrect. You can download all the FSO stuff, including but not limited to the FSO builds, the Launcher, numerous user-made campaigns and mods and whatnot.
fubar i think your servers arent connected to fs2dnet atm or i crashed them sorry
Where is everybody? Come back!
.....dot dot dot
Once again...forecast reads low but certain chance of a game occurring tonight at 11PM EST.
Potential host: FUBAR-BDHR
Potential players: Amit (me)
Please register your name for tonight's game by posting below. Thanks.
Did you really stay up andi?
use the nightly build FLINT!He's tried. Some sort of OpenGL problem I think.
Yo the Hamachi thing...it's too full...¬¬:wtf: Full? How?
That post is very outdated, sadly, no one seems to play MP anymore. Once I get my PC back I think I'm going to try for a regular game schedule, and I'm going to rewrite that post.

dragonsniper, you probably crashed due usage of another build, try to get the rc2 build :DCrashed the game, screwed up the graphics card until I rebooted and did some other funky stuff. It's fixed now, but it was a mess for a moment. Different build it is.
but im naked and watching the teletubbies
Hey Guys! Sorry missed Sat and yesterday's games... I dislocated my knee while playing a very boring game called cricket! Im back now tho and will be playing Sat...

Flint :pimp:
