Technical Trouble with Blue Planet
Hello, hopefully this is the right place to post this. I am have trouble getting the Blue Planet mod to work. Below are my specs:

Aspire 7552G-5107:

AMD Phenom II X4 Mobile
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Premium 64-bit

I have all the Mediavp_3612 vp files. I am running the wxlauncher. In addition, I am using FS2 Open 3.7.0 NO SSE build. Below is the error I get:

Error:

bp-shp.tbm(line 727):
Error: Required token = [#End], [$Subsystem:], [$Name], or [$Template], found [$Glowpoint overrides: ( "red_glow_20:1-3,7" "blue_glow4_small_1].

FS2 opens and I will see the the FS2 Open logo (this one with the text "Freespace  2 SCP" on it http://www.westcapitalmarkets.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/main-photo.jpg) but, it changes to black and freezes. Upon hitting space, the game exits back to the launcher. Thank you for your time and if you need additional information, just ask.

P.S. Deactivating the Blue Planet mod and just having the MediaVP mod running will result in the same problem and error...not sure what I did, but I am fairly certain I screwed something up royally.

Re: Technical Trouble with Blue Planet
You're trying to run Blue Planet without a Blue Planet build.

Two solutions:

Install the compatibility packages pinned at the top of this forum. Make sure you install them right!

Grab a BP build from the thread pinned at the top of this forum. Don't forget to select it in the launcher.

While you're here, might as well check up for any other problems that could inconvenience you. Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Re: Technical Trouble with Blue Planet
Alright, thank you for the reply. I removed any of the Blue Planet files and I am able to run the game again with just the Mediavp files. Attached is my fs2_open log. In addition, I received this warning upon starting a mission:

kernel32.dll! BaseThreadInitThunk + 18 bytes
ntdll.dll! RtlInitializeExceptionChain + 99 bytes

I will be trying your first two suggestions to get Blue Planet to work.

Re: Technical Trouble with Blue Planet
Try one solution or the other - not both!

Unfortunately I'll need a log generated while trying to run Blue Planet to help ferret out any possible Blue Planet problems.

Let me know how it goes.

Re: Technical Trouble with Blue Planet
Either you run a BP-specific build, or you install the compatibility patch. See, the current release of Blue Planet has extra lighting-related data that the standard builds don't know how to use; the compatibility patch allows you to play BP without those features (and will apparently become the new default when the Director's Cut releases).

Also, I'm quite sure that CPU should have SSE2 capability, so there's no real reason to run the NO-SSE build, although it doesn't make that much of a difference...

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again

<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"

<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

Re: Technical Trouble with Blue Planet
Ah, thank you...I am trying a fresh install of Blue Planet and I will be using a BP-build this time. Thank you both for your help. I didn't realize that you needed both the BP files and a BP build...just bought this game last night and have played around with modding games, though nothing quite this extensive. I'll let you know if it works this time around. :)
