I'm wondering what Picard will actually be doing though.
They could be following the common fanterpretation of Picard being a parental figure (which would make
Insurrection and
Nemesis stories about his midlife crisis, explains there more actiony bits
) and go on to have him now be grandfatherly mentor to a new crew... A bit like Kirk in the
Wrath of Khan, but in a more appropriate way of grandfathering for Picard...
I'd actually be more excited if Janeway or Sisko returned
I don't know if there is reasonable room for Sisko to return - I like the character and how Avery Brooks protrait him.
However
What you leave behind and the rest of the final season of DS9 made it pretty clear that his story is done: While during the final goodbye Sisko is talking about the plan the Prophets still have for him, part of his character arc already sets up that he would be settling down on Bajor with his new wife and kid; his roles in the story as mentor to the junior officers of Deep Space Nine is furfilled, Jake is long an independent person who can continue on his own, the conflict about his postion as Emissary is resolved, and his struggle against Duhkat brought to an end. Actually the only meaningful story that would be left to telll is for him to return from where-/whenever he is with the Prophets and get the retirement he had planned - but even the way his depature is set up is so as to say that if that happens there will be little complication to it.
