Dungeon Master reborn a.k.a. Legend of Grimrock
Legend of Grimrock

Not sure if this has been posted here, but given it was released about four days ago and this is the first time I heard about it, well... I thought I might post it here.

Anyways, this is a dungeon crawling game, old school. The map is divided into squares and forces you to move by the squares, but it is not turn based. Movement is otherwise freely scrolling. Best explained by just seeing it.

So far plenty of reviewers have been loving it. I'm probably going to buy this soon.

Relaxed movement is always more effective than forced movement.

I've been considering picking this up. Might have to give it a go if it's indeed good.
[16:57] <CommanderDJ> What prompted the decision to split WiH into acts?
[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something
[16:58] <battuta> it felt good to have a target to hit
[17:00] <RangerKarl> not sure if talking about strike mission, or jerking off

Never played Dungeon Master but I played the hell out of Eye of the Beholder I & II so I'm definitely interested in this.

Loved it :)

If you ever played DM or Eye of the Beholder... give yourself a treat and get it.

Ironically, as oldschool as it is, I found that the game and especially the truly oldschool movement system... which originally was invented due to hardware limitations,... didn't feel outdated at all, but rather refreshingly different from this decades "mainstream games". "Step by Step" movement also worked incredibly well as a basis for all the quite well made puzzles in the game.

It's got a certain "no nonsense" feel to it that really lets you concentrate on what the puzzles are about, as it doesn't distract you with the particularities of precision positioning that would be required with any free/FPS style movement system.

So, yeah,  back to the roots I say!

:bump:

Picked this up a few days ago. Only played a couple of hours, but it's quite a fun and absorbing experience. I've never played anything of this style or the older games it descends from, but I'm very much liking it.

Oh, and did anyone notice what an awesome main theme it had? Seriously, a great piece of music.
