[SOLVED] Re: Joystick recognized in Win10 but not Knossos/FSO

(1/1)

twinkyt:
I've been running Freespace with an old Kraft Premium II 15-pin joystick connected to a Mayflash Super Joy Box 7 (https://www.mayflash.com/product/17.html).

Windows recognizes the joystick and it shows up fine as a Gameport to USB Controller (which it has been in the past). I have played games on the computer other than FSO and it seems to work - I tested it out on the Steam version of Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, for example. It worked fine in the past on FSO via Knossos. I was running Knossos 0.15.0-dev+73b131a before and have also installed Knossos.NET v1.2.4 but the not recognizing the joystick occurs in both of them.

I had recently uncrated the computer from storage and plugged in the USB adapter where it had been before and now FSO of any variety won't recognize the joystick. I've tried forcing the settings to have a Joystick as the preferred device and even added the GUID to the registry for fs2_open.ini but no such luck.

My fs2_open.log contains this text even though I have listed the Gameport to USB Controller as the preferred controller.

Initializing Joystick...
Printing joystick info:
Joystick name: Gameport to USB Controller
  Joystick GUID: 0300BA8F250900003210000000000000
  Joystick ID: 0
  Joystick device ID: 0
 Joystick 0 removed
 Joystick 1 removed
 Joystick 2 removed
 Joystick 3 removed
  No joystick is being used.

I am utterly stumped. Any advice?

wookieejedi:
Good question!
Just to check, have you tried setting the joysticks in enabled in the new F3 options mode in-game?

Specifically, input settings for most mods using FSO version 24.2.0 or higher will need to be changed in-game by default. You can change in-game settings by going to "Options" menu of the mod you are playing.

wookieejedi, thanks for the tipper...I was trying the F3 during the actual mission itself-- it never occurred to me to hit F3 while I was in the main hall, rather than during a mission.

For me, pressing F3 in the main hall first brought up a menu that didn't have the options, but if I hit F2, then F3, the options came up. Once I changed Joystick 0 to the Gameport to USB Controller, it worked great.

Problem solved!!

I truly appreciate the help.

wookieejedi:
Great, glad you got it working!
