It's completed! :D
Special thanks to Mjnmixael for bugtesting!
name origin:
Nut or Neuth also spelled Nuit or Newet was the goddess of the sky in the Ennead of Egyptian mythology. She was seen as a star-covered nude human arching over the earth.

ZODS **** YEAH
-
Looks good to me
-
-
At this rate dem zodomites might actually get enough ships to make a nice next gen Vasudan fleet.
-
Looks good, The Newet was always one of my most favourite vasudan cruisers, just amazed on how little it has been used or i am playing the wrong campaigns
-
It's getting prime placement in BtA (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=77150.msg1552852#msg1552852). I'm very excited to use this model instead of the old one.
-
Looks like it could also pass for a corvette. Nice job!!

-
ED uses it as well, I'm eager to see what you come up with on this one. It does look like an unique ship so far.
Kudos.
-
Eeh, I honestly think it looks like a flat Sobek :p
Not a bad thing though, I love the Sobek.
-
I keep reading the thread title as "The Newest Reborn" :banghead:
Back on topic, the model loosk good so far, hope to see new progress, I kinda liked the old Newet.

It's mah babby. :p
I'm a bit tired of texturing the amun (not too long until I'm done with the texturing.) So working on and off modeling this one. Finished a rough version of the multipart turrets and experimenting with different techniques in maya..

Ooh! turrets look cool no nitpicks whatsoever, good job!

It's just a shame that Earth Defense will probably never live to see the light of day.
Nice model, Oddgrims. I gotta ask, whatever happened to the earlier remodel you did? Still have it?
-
This looks very good! I've been using the GVC Newet for quite a whole now in many test missions but nothing public based, though it'll be in a little remake that I hope to show soon, so that should add to the places where it is used in. This new one looks great so far, hope to see it finished in due time.
-
Tell me I'm not the only one getting some serious Covenant vibes from this thing..
Anyway, it looks good so far. Not insulting your modeling skills, but from what I've seen of your work, where you really shine is texturing, so I can't wait to see it skinned.
-
I kinda see the Covenant in it as well.

No offence taken c:
Well never studied Covenant ships (from the halo series I gather?) So I can't really comment on that.

Sounds cool, while the old newet is a strange build.. and not going much into that topic. I hope the new one will be up to snuff.
Update:
http://p3d.in/HFtmd
Worked with a lot with booleran tools to combine and clean the model and started working on engne and back areas, in overall I'm planning to model all the turrets into the hull and have unique mesh for each type of armaments the gun will be using.

Every time you show some early WIP version of a ship I have some doubts, but I always sincerely regret them later
-
Looking great! The newet looks strangely good with the sub-divisions turned on.
Y U NO TEXTURE SOON!
(seriously, you are a God in that area)
-
I always loved the Newet and now I love that ship much more . I can only suggest to make rear part less skeletal, and more solid. Can't wait for textures :)

I couldn't agree more. I must have lost an hour of my life just staring at the Amun.

Now the mesh is 99% done I'm ready to start uvmapping soon-ish.

I kinda prefer to make it semi skeletal to add extra depth when texturing. c:

The Amun is in the finetuning state, texturewise. I should update the mesh pn p3n soon...
Update:
I finished the 3 turrets and mapped the 3barrel flak turret. http://p3d.in/0T4NN pew pew. :p
edit:
added Capbeam turret and aa turret.

Wow.... what more can I say xD? You have a gift man.
-
:eek2:
OH
MY
GOD
They look awesome man, you are my idol, I wanna be like you someday!
btw, It would be awesome if they were animated (like on the Cap Beam Turret, he dark brown outer "arms" could deploy forward [think: Sathanas] when firing) However, I dont know if this is possible or feasible, just a very small insignificant suggestion.
-
I demand that you make a tutorial explaining how you make such awesome textures! I demand it, sir!
You most share your secrets.
Seriously, those are great.
-
animated beam turrets is overkill, IMO.
-
animated beam turrets is overkill, IMO.
but animated beam turrets from the future of the future is not overkill. :D
-
Here's a thought... an animated armor shell that protects the turret between shots. Using armor code, have the shell impervious to all conventional primaries and secondaries. You could have the shell simply hinge open from the bottom, or have them circle-slide... think of the bomb-bay doors of a B24 Liberator.
-
Mm, the idea of a animated turret is interesting, but so far I wonder if it is worth it. The movement would be minuscule and not add anything to the model... I will have to ponder more on this and ultimately come to a final decision.
Update:
I Finished off the uvmapping and did some textural groundwork like aobaking and linework.

These "hieroglyphs" looks like this "O_o". But i like them anyway.
-
Hey! Finished off the lods and -destroyed models/textures for the ship today! As well did a -normal and shinemap screenshot of the model.
Aiming to finish off the main ship debris and doing textures for them soonish. c:

Indeed, the hieroglyphs spell out Newet, or Nut the godess of the sky.
-
Are those textures final? They seem rather bland, compared to your other works! :)
-
Hm, Oddgrim, do You plan to make a HTL GVCv Nekhbet or other cool Vasudan unit :D? because i suppose that we will see this thing released very soon ;)
Keep up with Your great work

Yes, those is pretty much the final texture, just the normal map needs more work before I'll be done. c:

Thanks!, Not at the moment, I have a few other projects that need my attention before I can start something like that! :p
-
Aaaand it's done!
download in the OP.
-
You already know this from IRC, but I love it. DLed and about to give it a go ingame :)
EDIT: Oh, and I really, really hope this inspires a bit more love for the Vasudans. Other than this one, modern-standard, non-canon Vasudan vessels are essentially nonexistent. More power to Oddgrim for doing something about this.
-
THIS IS AWESOME!
-
Great job oddgrim :)
Guess I would offer you my firstborn child if you rework the Petbe and the Asarte...but they are looking good, apart from their tables^^
-

-
Great job again!! Check PM. :)
...if you rework the Petbe...
Inferno is using a hi-poly Petbe that is already textured. You'll just have to wait until we release Inferno.

-
I think he was referring to this ship http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/GVCv_Petbe and not our bomber. We use this model too but named it something else.
-
GVCv_Petbe. We use this model too but named it something else.
It's currently the GVCv Imiut used by Inferno, which IMO is a horrid mesh by today's standards.

5 star work Oddgrim!
-
That was quick :D. So what's next? I guess that now You will focus on Amun :)
-
Kneel before Zod.
Nice work
-
(obligatory reference to jizzing in my pants)
what is with the amazing hi-poly Vasudan models lately? We have the destroyers and Sobek, and now this... I hope this finds a place in many amazing campaigns. It deserves it. :D
-
Thanks for the kind feedback! c:
-
This is an excellent ship and marvelous work on the model. I was already planning to use the older Newet, now I have a much better-looking one.
Two things of note when I put it into FRED that someone might want to look at:
1. I got the "Communication" vs "communications" warning from FRED saying the system name in the model and table were mismatched. Easy fix, but it might scare some people.
2. The highlight box for turret 10 seems...odd in FRED. Selecting the turrets via the "K" key, turret 10 has a standard turret-sized red box around it, but then it also produces a box as large as the ship but offset just above it. My modding skills barely allow me to fix problem 1, so I seriously lack the skills and knowledge to diagnose that issue.
Still, in all, wonderful work.
-
The second issue is easily fixed - you need to go into PCS2 and change turret 10's arm from detail0 to turret10-arm. I've alerted Oddgrim to the problem.
[EDIT]Which he already knew about, very efficient. :D

Indeed fixed the turret now c:
