Ok, little housekeeping update with some info regarding my plans for the Armed Citizen Initiative.
The Armed Citizen Initiative is exactly what it sounds like: I want every adult dwarf in Peakwind carrying a weapon, and some light armor as well. All citizens will be organized into squads and do a little weapon training for one month out of the year. Of course, there will be a standing full-time military, and I'm willing to set up a part-time crossbow militia for any dwarves that want to serve Peakwind, but don't want to be full-time soldiers.
----
So here's what I'm thinking- there will be a few different equipment "classes" for the non-military citizens of the fort.
A) Basic: Melee weapon, Chain shirt, Buckler. This class covers everybody not specifically mentioned below, and will be the most common assignment by far.
B) Medium: Melee weapon, Cap, Chain shirt, Gauntlets, Leggings, Low boots, (Buckler). This class is for Miners and Woodcutters, who are more likely to be exposed to hostiles or accidents. Middleweight armor will improve survivability without drastically hurting mobility. Miners need two hands for their pick and cannot use a shield.
C) Heavy: Melee weapon, Helm, Chain shirt, Breastplate, Gauntlets, Greaves, High boots, (Shield). This is effectively full military-grade protection, and will only be assigned to very swift and strong civilians who would otherwise qualify for Medium kit. I don't expect to give out many of these outfits, if any.
So, here's what I want from the rest of y'all: Your weapon preference, and if you want to be a part of the militia. Crossbows are incompatible with secondary weapons, unfortunately, so for organization's sake it would be easiest if you chose one or the other. I won't be assigning non-Miner, non-Woodcutter dwarves armor heavier than Basic class without a clear request for it. Even then, I may not approve such a request if a dwarf is not well-suited to the extra encumberance.
Now, did you put me into this LP as well? and as what?
Yeah, sorry about that. Your request to join must've gotten lost in the shuffle. Be sure to gimme some ideas for desired labors!
