Title: Some Inferno troubles
Post by: djmindcrasher on July 11, 2010, 08:01:33 am
I have trouble with Solar Wars Inferno mod (I didn't find a specific thread about that mod so I post here). When ESJ Icanus blows up the Gigas (this battle could be longer and more dramatic IMO) in the next mission SPD Vinashaak comes and send me to the nebula. And in the nebula I meet a new race with new ships... represented with GTF Vesuvius. It's written there are missing models of ships. And I think WTF!? I play on 3.6.12 Inferno mod with ALL released models, Terrans, Shivans and Ancients (Vishnans:D) So what I miss? And how to get missing ships?

Don't play Solar Wars. It's absolutely filled with bugs of every description. There are a lot of other campaigns you could play.

First of all, if you have a problem, and the only thread seemingly related to it is a year old and not stickied, you can safely make a new thread.

Second, read the FreeSpace Troubleshooting FAQ (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.0), especially its section on how to generate an fs2_open.log, then post that.

Third, Inferno is so old that compatibility problems are to be expected.

Fourth, Solar Wars happens to be one of the most buggy campaigns ever made. It didn't work even in retail.

It also has nothing to do with the Inferno team.

But I hadn't any troubles until mission in the nebula!
Anyway, this is the log (I don't understand any bit of it:D)

Oh, these are the ships which are incorrectly shown
MISSIONS: Ship "Sickness 1" has an invalid ship type (ships.tbl probably changed).  Making it type 0
MISSIONS: Ship "Sickness 2" has an invalid ship type (ships.tbl probably changed).  Making it type 0

MISSIONS: Ship "Sickness 5" has an invalid ship type (ships.tbl probably changed).  Making it type 0
MISSIONS: Ship "Sickness 6" has an invalid ship type (ships.tbl probably changed).  Making it type 0

Here's a simple, easy-to-understand bit of advice.

Don't play this campaign.

Judging by your log, it's bugged to hell and back (not to mention based on a mod that hasn't seen a maintenance update in ages). Even if the current crash would be fixed, you'd just run into different crashes further down the line. And that's just on the modpack side of things; God only knows how buggy the actual missions are.

I concur. It's a horrible campaign.

It's not supported by anyone - The original creator has disappeared, the Inferno team has nothing to do with it and FSO probably vomits when you try load it.

Nevermind... Thanks for the pieces of advice, what a pity, it's only known to me campaign which takes place directly after events in Inferno Chapter 1.

It's some sort of fan-made sequel to INFR1 and, to be honest, I've never managed to complete it because of the issues Snail mentioned a few posts ago.

Have you tried Sol: A History? It's not an official INF campaign, true, but it's strongly recommended. :)

Yeah, Sol: A History is a very good campaign. It's a prequel to R1. Probably one of the best Inferno-related campaigns.

It's long, too: 36 playable missions in total. :)

Don't pay any attention to the nay-sayers.  Solar wars is playable if you do some certain things.  Use the version posted on freespacemods.net and follow the directions with the mod.  Secondly use an inferno build of FreeSpace open.  Should be labelled something like "fs2_open_3_6_12_RC3r_INF_SSE2" or "fs2_open_3_6_12_RC3r_INF".  It apears you are using a standard 3.6.12 build so all the ship models will not show up and this could be what is causing your problem.

If you can get it working you deserve a medal.

!

Code: [Select]
Found root pack 'D:\Games\FreeSpace2\mv_core.vp' with a checksum of 0x1bb3aaf0Please remove this file, because
1. it is a MediaVP and non-retail .vp files do NOT belong in \freespace2\
2. it looks like it is a part of the 3.6.10 BETA MediaVPs that should not be mixed with the current MediaVPs.

I debugged and posted a version on FreeSpaceMods.net about 2 years ago that worked with FSO 3.6.9.  I've played through the campaign several times with out any problems.  I noticed there are now some errors associated with the Music.table but that is from InfernoR1 and not Solar Wars.

What kind of errors?

I've completed Solar Wars without problems, so it's possible to run it untill the end.
I didn't had to fix anything.

See attached.  Error messages go away if I don't use mv_music-mus.tbm

Ah, I know about this.
Inferno uses a music.tbl, which is incompatible with music improvements made by Mediavps.

Uhm, interesting. It appears to be a generic problem... any suggestions on how to solve it?

Here we go. Try this (http://koti.mbnet.fi/reiler/FunkyFreeSpaceStuff/715517patch.vp). It worked with Sol: A History, at least.

"Plug-in non presente"

Looks like I need a plug-in to DL that file...

wat

It's just a .vp. If all else fails, right-click and "Save as...".

Thanks, that worked. Maybe I should stop using Opera, it's so unfriendly... :sigh:

It does save you the trouble of moving the MV_Music.vp out of the mediavps file when using Inferno.
