Missing sounds randomly
Sometimes certain sounds will not play.  For example: sound from my guns, sound of missile launching, recorded voice communications, explosions, etc.  Each of these plays sometimes, but sometimes some will be skipped entirely.  I think it happens more often when more things are going on at once.

I am on Windows XP.  I've tried both with EFX on and off, and it might happen less frequently with it on, but I'm not sure.  My playback device is set to "Generic Hardware on Realtek AC97 Audio".

I've never noticed this problem in another game.

Any suggestions?

Try the software option.

Software seems to be working... didn't try that because I haven't used that settings since the pre-soundblaster days.  Maybe it matters less in this era?

Re: Missing sounds randomly
Not sure if this would help, but you could try updating your sound card drivers, then the hardware option might work correctly, if not, stick with software.  I think it matters less these days, as the CPU is more powerful.  i.e., an 800MHz PIII might not like doing extra duty for the sound card, however, a 2.3GHz quad core i7 won't bat an eye.
