Title: Oddgrim's Artdump
Post by: Oddgrim on April 09, 2013, 05:44:40 am
Sometimes I'm in the mood of drawing some random stuff, and this is the thread I post it in. Mind that most will be unfinished/quickly drawn and trying out new techniques. Time spent will probably be max two hours on each. :p

Those look good. They have an loose style to them. Does that style carry over to your more complete works? I find spending a long time on a piece can kill the fluidity, as well as get kind of boring to paint.

Actually, looking at them after a bit, the top one reminds me a (tiny) bit of Gustav Klimt. He also put a great deal of detail into the face and exposed body of his subjects, but reduced the clothing and surroundings to a very abstract set of forms. It might be something to consider with your future work.

Can't wait to see more!

Thanks, the loose style does not allways carry over to the final product, but I do try to be loose and less strict now a days.
Checking out Gustav Klimt I can agree on the tiny relation but that is not so uncommon to work that way.. in fact a lot of portrait painters during the 19th century did place more emphasis on face over clothes.  Speaking of the painter he does have some interesting pieces that I'll take a closer look at.

Camstudio (http://camstudio.org/) is free and allows you to select a section of the screen to record. Get it, there will be no negotiations, Oddgrim.

PS: Dhat image is delicious.

EDIT: He actually looks better without the beard.

Thanks for the link, I will try that out and I wonder where you got the idea that hes bearded?, I found nothing to indicate that in any of the cutcenses or ani images. Perhaps from the assumption that _all_ antagonists must have a beard? :p

But I suppose you could imagine that since you neve get a clean look at his face.

I don't see the beard, I can see the lip cleft which would indicate no mustache, the chin could be something hairly but more inclined to interpret that as shadow. :1

I love drawing, and I'm not bad at it. However, buying a tablet is so expensive... I once (7 years ago) bought a simple wacom tablet that hasn't a "screen" in it, just the touch pad. And it sucked, for I have to look up while drawing down (I can't draw like that). Then it was stolen. Oh dear.

What kind of gear do you use? Is it expensive? I love my pens and pencils, but I do envy the ability to just put colors and random tools with one or two clicks and not go through all that **** about digitizing the work, clean it, rotate it, etc.,etc.

It's not cheap. Not counting the price for a copy of photoshop the tablet itself could easily reach more then 200$ depending what you are buying. Not easy to use either, it takes a lot of practice to use it decentl.

If you really want to get into it bad and have a crap ton of money, you could go for a Cintiq (http://www.wacom.com/en/creative/products/pen-displays/cintiq). It's 1000 bucks though. :P The thing is a touchscreen monitor tablet, so it's reasonably meant to be costly...

Now, the Inkling (http://www.wacom.com/creative/products/mobile/inkling) is a mere 100 $ and it might actually fall more into what you need. It's a pen that records what you draw into something you can port into a PC for editing.
