A journey through the layers of my model of a Pratt and Whitney turbofan engine.  The model itself is 97MB - i really need more memory to do more detail. A version fading between each layer is available, but its 2MB.
Layer 1 - central 2 spools of the engine, transfering power from the turbine to compresors
Layer 2 - stator blades, stationary blades used to correct the flow through the moving blades.
Layer 3 - the rotor blades, the actuall moving parts of the engine.
Layer 4 - the combustion chamber, anuallar type in this case.
Layer 5 - inner casing of the engine, a view of the engine as it is bought from the manufacturer
Layer 6 - the full engine together.

And this:

Both were modelled in Rhino, and animated by putting together renders of each stage into Jasc Animation Shop
