Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
Awesome! I added links to your channels to the description as I've done with other campaigns. I'll be sure to plug your stuff on my next stream! Thanks for making such a fun mod and being so cool and informative, Herkie.

Thank you. It's my pleasure.

Oh, I watched EACH of your streams like 5 times now. I'm taking notes of my mistakes due to my forgetfulness. Like the player order option, some of the ships that should not  be ordered. I will be fixing the AFR missions so a future update will be coming.

Regarding the missing textures and the flashing light show ("the system is down... p...p...plup"),... Ah,... that's a compatibility issue. The mod still uses the ancient FSO 3.7.4. I don't know what the newer FSO versions had implemented. It will take me years to learn that on my own, I don't have that many years.

I actually submitted my two mods to HLP for restoration. I hope somebody will take it.

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
From the four videos so far of Reboot here are what I would guess would be some of Red's favorite dialogue lines (and based on the chat reaction):

"Perhaps it is time to take my existence to the next level."
"Unfair business practices are not tolerated in this galaxy."
"I need your courage and your balls."
"You remind me of a good friend I had.  He's dead now."

Did I miss anything Red?

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
I've got two things to talk about (updates and advice for an upcoming AFR mission):

1-Updates
Since you like to talk about updates in the beginning, here are the updates I've found since the last stream (some are small bugfixes I think but it was enough to change the version number):
MVPs 4.6.X has been released
Blue Planet Complete
Between The Ashes
NTF Ship Textures
The Scroll Of Atankharzim
Wing Commander Saga
Aftermath 2 (aka "The Blue Guardian")...Herkie put out a single file to update the missions file which fixes some important bugs.  He doesn't know how to do Knossos so he posted it in TBG's release thread.  Just pop it in the
folder for TBG and replace the older mission file with this new one. A small note though:  loading this campaign on 22.0 after this update seems to produce an error notice for some reason(however, this notice doesn't appear
to be gamebreaking or affect gameplay negatively as I'm able to continue into the game after it and I saw no problems in missions).  I posted more details about this in AF2's release thread in the AF forum.

2-AFR:
On an upcoming mission in Act 8 called "Sicilian Defense" (since you just completed the Archangel's debut you'll probably get to this one):
You may have to give the Archangel some help when
Spoiler:
the Sathanas juggernauts come in.  There seems to be a bug in newer versions of AFR in this mission where the Archangel only fires a few times with its main gun (though its side guns still function normally).  The mission is still very beatable, you'll just have to be more proactive in taking out the juggernauts with your ship than you would otherwise.  I would concentrate on juggernauts and use your escort Boreas ships to attack destroyers.  The Boreas has incredible range so you might not even have to move all that much if at all (though it might be good to position oneself just a little above and behind the Archangel.  I would devote energy from engines to guns.

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
Herkie was able to get on FB but otherwise has internet troubles right now so he asked me to pass along this message/advice to Red/Joe:

"INFO: There are missions when they are over (RTB), the fighting still continues. This is to demonstrate that friendlies will constantly be under fire especially in the Shivan system. You are lucky in the mission with the Acquitaine that I respawned the extra fighters only 25 times  (Well, Adhara was infested with Shivans at that point). But in later missions in your following streams, extra fighters will respawn about 100 times or more, including cap ships. So if you receive the RTB or Dock order, please do so right away (unless you want to rack up more kills)."

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
I missed sunday's show because I volunteered to count ballots in the state election here on Sunday - forgot just how much the red tape slows the process down and so I wasn't back at home in time to join in.

Congrats on the anniversary!

Should the cartwheeling Garuda try out for the Olympics? ;)

Anyways, you're fairly close to the end now and might be able to finish Reboot in the next stream (though it might need to be just a tad longer than the average one).

Just to be sure you see it closer to the stream and not too far in advance, I'll post instructions again for how to see the canon ending (which the release thread labels as the alternate ending) in this thread and PM you on Wednesday.

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
Redmagejoe, since you might be able to finish the Reboot stream this weekend, I'll post some info here again (and in a PM just to be sure you get it) about the ending (the PM I send you won't have spoiler text so don't read it if you actually want to go in totally blind).

The second to last playable mission in the campaign is called "Slaying Dragons" (this is in Act 10), this is where the difference between the 'original' ending and 'alternate' (canon) ending happen.  There is also a cutscene right after this mission.

The post-"Slaying Dragons" cutscene has a different name (which you could see in the techroom) depending on which version you play.  I forget the original name but the alternate/canon version is called
Spoiler:
"A Sacrifice"
This is the version that will lead into Aftermath 2:  The Blue Guardian.

To sum it up, the canon version of events is that
Spoiler:
The Avenger survives the events of AFR

There is also a slight difference in the ending/credits sequence of AFR so you might want to play the alternate/canon file version of that too if you have time.

Basically, if you want to see the differences play the alternate/canon campaign file version of:
-"Slaying Dragons"
-the cutscene
Spoiler:
"A Sacrifice"
-ending/credits sequence

It looks like he took today off since pt.6 is now listed to be shown on May 29.

In any case, we're looking forward to it Joe.  Hope you enjoy the conclusion.

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
YouTube was having serious issues with the stream, and it was incredibly inconsistent and disruptive. After 30 minutes of fighting with it, I opted to just try again next week.

Funny enough, during my test stream with Colt and Henrik afterwards, it seemed to have improved. Given other factors compared to last time this happened briefly, where it was my network, this time it seemed wholly to be on YouTube's end.

When it gets closer to May 29 do you want me to re-send you the PM I sent you on the conclusion of AFR so that it's fresher in your memory (i.e., you'll have it closer to the event)?

That's bad. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing it. I cannot see it live though because of the time  zone difference here.

Oh, I forgot to tell you. Congratulations to IllfatedGamingTV for your anniversary. Keep on streaming.  :)

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
It's 6 hours until I prep for stream time and I'm still awake. I'm still awake because some recent change has caused most AFR missions to break within seconds of mission start. The application hangs and freezes and has to be force-closed. I'm able to complete missions in other FSO mods, but not AFR for some reason. Here's the log for the fast debug I did on the upcoming mission, and the problem is likely what's happening on all the missions given that it's the exact same hanging behavior. Help me out here, HLP, so I can sleep.

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
Yey! You finished the campaign! And I enjoyed watching it. It's too bad I cannot join the live stream because of the time difference. When you went live, it was May 30 at 2am in my place. I could have added some hints. And I could have explained a little the post credit scene. But I will do so in this post with no spoilers. Please do note that this is AFR universe. And so...

The Blue Guardian is the patriarch leader of the Shivan race, an enigmatic race that occupies 3/4 of the galaxy. What the GTVA fought in FS1 and FS2 is just a rouge faction led by Grond (the planet Shiva was just an outpost which the GTVA mistakenly called the Shivan home planet). Again, I stress that this is AFR universe. Now, Grond's actions angered the Ancient (the purple ship in the post credits scene) and the Blue Guardian was trying rectify the chaos caused by Grond and he chose to influence John Richter as a tool to solve the problem, the human he refered to as the "receptor." The Ancient, however, believes that Richter will be a problem in the future. This is what the post credits scene dialogue was all about.

And this mystery will be answered in the sequel, The Blue Guardian. The title itself hints the return of this blue shivan.

One tiny spoiler: John Richter is an admiral six months later (the time between AFR and AF2). He is CO of the 23rd Battlegroup. As the hero of the GTVA, he skipped the Commodore rank. But he is no longer the main protagonist. AF2's protagonist is a female.

By the way, you do get promoted very fast in times of war which I greatly exaggerated in AFR, sacrificing some realism.

AFR is a "player-driven" campaign. No character plot. Just a war campaign. Very little dialogue. If there is a story, it's the mission themselves. A simple story of how the GTVA win it this time. Like you said, an experience which I actually intended. However, there are also clues of some undercurrent going on which pave the way for the sequel.

AF2:TBG is a "character-driven" campaign. That means it has a real story now. A real character and story progression with a protagonist and a bad ass villain. More dialogues. And it's a bit serious. But this time, I only wrote less than half of the campaign or maybe 20%. My main writer is CT27. This is his work, I just designed the missions and directed the whole chaos. :)

EDIT: ...And yes, there is chaos. A tradition of "The Aftermath" universe. You go pew pew! But the enemies will really go pew pew on you too and drive you really nuts!

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
I really enjoyed the conclusion Joe.  Thanks for doing this.  BTW, I'm trying to work with Herkie to get an update for TBG.  Just to understand the schedule of things, will you be doing TBG (Aftermath 2) after this "Blighted" campaign?

Also, to clarify the differences in "Dragon Slayer" that you were asking about in the video:

In the non-canon version (the original version):
Spoiler:
During the mission both of your escort Boreas ships get destroyed.  Toward the end Command orders you to engage the detonation sequence on the Avenger.  You (Richter) escape in the escape pod as you saw in the video "Death of a Avenger".

In the canon version (the 'alternate' ending which leads into TBG):
Spoiler:
What's supposed to happen is that one of your Boreas escorts gets destroyed.  Toward the end the other one gets disabled.  This is when the massive Shivan reinforcements are supposed to come in.  The surviving Boreas agrees to sacrifice itself to destroy the Shivan fleet.  Command orders Richter and the Avenger along with the allied pilots to escape.  Richter escapes with the Avenger just as the Boreas begins the detonation sequence.  It is damaged but escapes and is rescued later as seen in the video "A Sacrifice".

There is no difference between the two versions of "Final Confrontation".

The credits sequence is mostly the same too except for one small difference:
Spoiler:
In the alternate campaign file version (which is the canon version), the Avenger is present in the 'parade' of ships.

Also, since some people were wondering about Petrarch:
Spoiler:
He survives the events of Reboot.  He was willing to sacrifice himself in the Aquitaine's suicide mission in "Final Confrontation", but Command refused to let him do that or go on board.  They wanted him to survive the war and didn't want a hero of multiple wars to die in a suicide mission when a skeleton crew could accomplish the mission.  He passes away of natural causes sometime between Reboot and TBG.

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
FUN FACT:

The last mission of AFR is actually THE FIRST mission I made in 2011. The Archangel was the Colossus before and the Royal Sath was just a normal Sathanas. Literally, it was the first mission since I discovered the FRED tool.

Then after I played Blue Planet part 1 and 2 in 2012 (War in Heaven was not voice-acted yet). I was inspired and the original "The Aftermath" was born (dependent on BP) and released in 2012 Sectorgames. This why most of my ships here are from BP.

I can't believe AF Reboot is 6 years old (released 2016) and it still works with the new FSOs and MVPs (considering I am still using FSO 3.7.4 in updating it).

Re: Props to Passionate Community + Shameless Stream Plugging
Since this was talked about near the end of the stream, just for fun, if the campaign (and TBG) was to get voice acting (which probably will never happen), who would be a good voice for Richter?  How about Ransom (who did Mackie from Derelict and a character in BP)?

Darkblade seems to do a lot of voicework, I think he might be good for Robert Prescott.
