Error before briefing - weird looking graphics

(1/1)

jonaeber:
Hi, I've been playing FS and FS2 for several years, but I've just discovered there's an open project that just improves everything and I thought to try it out.
I've installed the game from GOG, installed Knossos, downloaded the Media VPs, I think I've followed instructions correctly, but still I'm getting trouble making it work properly.

When I start the game it loads the intro video and loads the main screen properly. But when I click the gate to start playing it freezes black; if I open the task manager, I can see an error window saying "A shader failed to compile! Check the debug log for more information. File gropenglshader.cpp Line: 753"

This error window gives me 2 options: exit and debug. If I click debug, I can go to the briefing screen. After I start the mission, the models are missing (I cannot see the ship of the instructor, only the glow from the engines) and there are a lot of weird looking colored lines that might dissapear when the instructor is far. Also, nothing appears at the target screen at the bottom left.

I've uploaded a log: https://fsnebula.org/log/66b0eb7c487e3bcd4e0010bb

Thank you in advance!

Hi there!

--- Code: ---  OpenGL Vendor    : NVIDIA Corporation
  OpenGL Renderer  : GeForce 210/PCIe/SSE2
  OpenGL Version   : 3.3.0
--- End code ---

This is the problem right here. Your GPU does not meet the minimum requirements for FreeSpace Open to work.

Specifically, the error message indicates that the shader compiler (which is a part of the GPU driver) cannot compile the main model shader; this means that models cannot be rendered correctly (or at all, really).

jonaeber:
Oh, I get it. I didn't knew there were minimum requirements to play it (even as I knew FSO isn't as "light" as FS2).

Which are the minimum requirements? Which graphic card should I get?

Thank you for your response.

FSO should work on pretty much any GPU made in the past 10 years that supports OpenGL 4. For the upgraded graphics package (known as the MediaVps), we recommend cards that have at least 6 or more gigabytes of graphics memory.
