I decided to copy Dark Hunter's idea about a temporary thread about our campaign.
As you already know, contact with Earth has been restored and the GTVA has made a peaceful contact with the EA. Together, they started building ships that serve in a joint fleet, and the first "shared" ship is the Telemus-class GTCa Steadfast. The player is Beta 1 from the elite squadron 35th Black Eagles, lead by the mighty Alpha 1.
So, everything seems ok, right?
NOPE!!!!!
At the edge of known space, Altair is used as a scrapyard, and workers live in frightening conditions. So, they decided that it was a pity to scrap the huge fleet they had there... And so, the Altair Phoenixes were born...
So... what do you think? Post any question here.
------------------------------------------------------
Thread title edited. Please take a look at this post (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=45589.msg1914384#msg1914384) in order to find out more about the release of this campaign's dump.
-
And don't forget the EA rebellion.
-
Which EA rebellion?
-
Some EA Admiral... Or am I just getting tangled up...
Ignore me.
-
Well I had an idea...something similar, but I don't know if it will fit in the storyline. If yes, it will appear in episode 3 or 4...
-
Since I opened a thread about Steadfast, let's keep everything about Steadfast in this thread and not in the Dreamcatcher one :)
Both you and Dark Hunter should "grammar check" Steadfast. Once I solve a problem with a new weapon, I will post m6. m1-5 need grammar checking...m5 will soon be implemented with another chat...or two(takeoff and landing).
DO WHAT ARE YOU PAID FOR!
Wait, you're paying us? :D
Sorry, I've been checking the site but I must have missed the thread where the missions are posted. My bad. :p
1) That weapon works without any problem on my PC :p
2) @Testers: the missions aren't posted yet, but as soon as everything is ok we'll post them
3) @Testers: I have to pay a bet to Alpha 1, so I can't pay you at the moment  (don't worry, I'm not crazy, you'll understand what this means)
-
Ehm you can send them the missions 1-5. Grammar checking also means changing the arrival of wings or warships a bit since the structure of messages changes. Then, it will be up to the testers.
The weapon works but it's definitely an AAA....
I think you should talk about the campaign and the ships we're using, for example.
-
So... screenie time!!! They are from the first mission.

Beta wing arrives near their objective.
And this?
We are using ships from INFR1, Freespace 2 and 1 (so you will need also INF:A for the FS1 ships), and other custom ships (Aldo's GVC Mafdet, StratComm's GTC Hyperion and StratComm's, LtNarol's, CODEDOG ND's and Mikhael's GTD Raynor, included in the VP).
And now, some words about the civil war.
Due to the heavy costs for the construction of the GTI Gaia, the GTVA was forced to increase taxes. This affected negatively the poor workers in the Altair Scrapyards. Always due to taxation, archaeologists and xenobiologists working on Ancients ruins in Altair had to leave, and also this affected the poor system.
With the help of the Altair-stationed 10th Fleet, they organised a coup d’etat, seizing the whole fleet that was going to be scrapped. Between the captured ships, there is also a second Colossus. The second Colossus was built as a stop-gap ship between the Capella-generation ships and the new ships. Since it was not built in secret and used slightly less powerful weaponry, it could be completed in “only” 7 years, but became obsolete quickly. Now the Altair Phoenixes (so-called because they want their home system to rise from the ashes of the Second Great War and the following crisis) use it as their flagship.
At the beginning of the rebellion, the GTVA didn’t care too much about it, because they didn’t want to deploy their assets in a backwater system. But then the APs attacked the former Vasudan capital system, Aldebaran (Vasuda Prime is now an habitable system due to the completion of the “Genesis” project. This project is taken from Awakenings…), and destroyed the fleet based there.
After this clear demonstration of the rebel’s power, a joint GTVA-EA fleet led by the GTCa Steadfast is sent in the strategic Alpha Centauri system to prevent a further spreading of the rebellion.
And here the player, Beta 1 of the elite squadron 35th Black Eagles, makes his entrance…
@Testers: check our private forum.
EDIT: Corrected GVC Mafdet's name, I wrote GVD Mafdet... :nervous:
-
I see I suddenyl have more work to do.
*returns to dimly-lit workroom*

This (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,28247.0.html) seems (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,28455.0.html) familiar. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,28500.0.html)
Honestly, a pimpage thread in the Missions and Campaigns forum is fine, but really try not to develop the campaign right here in the open, alright?
-
Don't worry, we won't tell you that the Altair Phoenixes are controlling Shivans and thus they have 300 Gigas that will supernova Sol and all other systems, and we won't tell you that we are going to say that the Vasudans are a creation of the Shivans and will cut many :headz: in the campaign. Finally, we won't tell you that in the final phase the GTVA will develop a 750-kilometers long mega-uber-ship-of-d00m-with-which-will-make-a-big-Shivan-0wn4g3.
:nervous:
Oh, ****, I spoilt the entire story!

Obviously, it is a joke :)
-
Right. The APs are pretty original...

Really??? I thought that was the plot...
@testers: the missions 1.2.3. you got are old ones. i made some corrections, have a look on our forum.
@team members (Dysko&Mob): if you tell me to change sth in the missions, please don't give the testers the old missions
@everybody: i have some internet problems, i won't be very often on both forums. tell everything to darth dysko, and he will report me at school.
@dysko: nice screenshots, but avoid spoilers....
I thought the 2nd colossus should have been a mistery/surprise... i guess i was wrong.....
-
2nd Colossus?
Now I hope that is a joke. :doubt:
-
I't s not a joke...
-
Oh GREAAATTT... :doubt:
-
The 2nd Colossus is not like the other Colossus. Since it's the only project available for a ship that responded to the Tarkin-doctrine, GTVA ordered a 2nd Colossus, but its capabilities are not like the original one: only 1 BGreen, and the engines are much less powerful. It requires only half the crew due to many automatic system.
-
So its not actually a real ship.
Oh. Okay. :)
Unless the Altair Phoenixes get ahold of it and refit it, of course.
-
That's the point.
They need supplies...however...
-
ok, ok, now stop the Colossus2 spoiler....
talk about sth else, like the reasons for the barnard (hippocrates in the screenshot) being there damaged... it's far more interesting, isn't it?
-
It has been damaged when it was en route to Stable Station, where all civilian vessels are regrouping and where the Steadfast is directed.
-
my post was meant to draw the attention away from the campaign "secret" plot. it was an invitation to HLP members to discuss the possible reasons for the barnard being damaged, not for you (LGM) to explain it... i'm sure you know the story...
-
Well it was pretty obvious the AP attacked it?
-
A civilian vessel is always a prefect target.
-
The Steadfast is a standard Telemus carrier, with textures replaced using ModelView. It's not a "serious" reskin, it's just to give it a more GTVA-esque look. This means there may be some textures that don't look good.
That mission is still not grammar checked, but don't worry, we have 4 grammar checkers, so there shouldn't be any grammar errors in the final release. :)
And the campaign is long, very long. Episode 1 has 25 missions, Episode 2 has a similar number of missions, but Episode 3 should have much more missions (still not planned how many). We have planned also other 3-4 episodes, but there is only a basic plot of these.
You'll encounter Shivans, Ancients, Nightmares, Kilrathis, Vorlons, Cylons, Ewoks, Romulans and... uh... wait... I think I exaggerated...
-
By "not serious" do you mean place holder, or meant to look stupid?
-
It's not meant to look stupid, it's simply that we haven't the skill to do a good reskin.
-
And that's provvisory....
-
Excellent. we post screenshots with grammar errors!! Well, everybody, please forgive us (ehm, forgive me, since those errors are my fault), and don't worry, our grammar testers are very good.
Episode 3 should have much more missions (still not planned how many).
Really? I only reached 13.
-
Well, when I gave you the basic plot for scripting missions you said "OMG!!! This episode will be extra long!!!" :p
-
Grammar errors...I can't see them.
<everyone says: OF COURSE!>
-
Will Steadfast include FS Open features like ballistic primaries or separate loadout for certain banks?
-
Excellent. we post screenshots with grammar errors!!
Oh, but it provides all sorts of comic relief when read with a thick accent:
"Go-a to-a the Hell-a, Beta 3. Our engines vill explode in few meenits time, eef a-no-a-body repairs a-dem."
Followed shortly by Beta 3: "Aye, it must-a be-a good-a heat-a cook-a pasta, ya?"
-
@Qwer: the first episode will not feature ballistic weapons or bank-specific payloads, but I'm already tabling some fancy weapons for the following episodes. I don't know if I'll be able to do a nice primary figtherflak, but surely flak will be mounted on bomber turrets ;7
@nuclear1: Whada ya sayinga? (uhma... I'ma nota surea ifa "italianizeda" englisha isa reallya likea thata, buta anywaya..)
-
@Qwer: There's something in the works for one of the last episodes.
@nucrear1: I hate pasta.
-

[takashi]if its not 3d then it probably looks super-crap[/takashi]
(sorry, taka, couldn't resist!) ^^;
-
:P
-
Say one bank is small and can only fit Tempests in it. You do not let it carry the Cyclops. The other bank is bigger. You let that one have the Cyclops. What's so strange about that?
-
Actually, bank-specific loadouts are an SCP feature. It allows the moders to limit what kind of weapons can be carried in specific banks. For example, if you have a smaller missile bank on a bomber, the moder may want to restrict the player from being able to mount bombs in that bay, instead allowing the player to chose anti-fighter and defensive weapons. The larger banks would allow the player to mount bombs, but perhaps not lighter missiles. You cannot do this with retail FS2 or FS1. The same thing can be done with primary banks.
-
Probably the weapons I'm (trying to) working on will be bank-specific. You'll almost surely see fighterbeams on some fighters, and most probably many ballistic weapons, but not in the first chapter (it's 50% complete, so we can't add these things now).
-
Pasta is good and also a good source of protein and carbohydrates if you work out in the weight room like I do. Also it is weird that all my years growing up, I always thought that pasta was the tomato sauce and not the actual noddles. :D
I know that. I'm just trying to tell you that following stereotypes isn't that good.

There's a custom missile in Episode 1.
-
But it's carried by cruisers :P
-
How about a small size bm even fighters can use?
-
They are called "Piranha" and "Infyrno"
Though I wanted to do a burst missile which spawned other burst missiles... but that would be quite odd...
-

You see the Shivan Swarm of Death? It fires several missiles, which split into more missiles, which split into more missiles which split into more missiles which spawn more bomb babies. :)
-
I think only the Shivans can do that... I mean, the Shivans are an advanced race, maybe they know how to put a powerful explosive in a small space. Terrans and Vasudans still use more traditional explosives. :)
Uhm... but if we consider that an atomic bomb can be put in a suitcase... :drevil:
-
...
;)
There's something between the Infyrno, the Piranha and the burst missile :)
-
'burst missile?'
-
The name is taken from AC ( :ick: I hate AC), it would be a cluster missile.
-
No, it has nothing to do with cluster missiles.
-
Steadfast members, please STOP giving away all the ideas for the campaign!!!
We don't need spoilers. neither here, nor in dreamcatcher.
Nice the one on pasta :D
-
Of course.
Uhm...where's your beloved GVD Meretseger?
Nice the one on pasta :D
Are you serious?
-
Uhm...where's your beloved GVD Meretseger?
Is this a question for me?
Nice the one on pasta :D
Are you serious?
Well, it's funny!
-
Uhm...where's your beloved GVD Meretseger?
Is this a question for me?
Yeah, since I noticed that sentence about the destroyer.
Can we talk about serious arguments, please?
-
OK. Let's talk about why the Steadfast has such stupid textures.
More seriously: Try not to use the Hades' textures. Why not use Hecate textures or something. The Hades textures just make it look downright stupid.
Actually, it is very hard to remap. But yeah. Anything will work better than the Hades' textures.
-
Steadfast Grammar checkers, since it's a long time nothing new comes for you, i have written some messages for a cutscene (just to keep your english in exercise... :D).
you'll find everything on TSP.

Good. I will try to kill the Tyrant(s) in the meantime... :)

If the campaign has success, we'll recruit a modeller to revamp the whole model and add a nameplate. I tried to use Hecate textures, but the model looked bad. Hades textures are provvisory.
-
I tried a couple of combinations before using Hades textures and I can ensure you that they didn't look good.
The Steadfast is a ship constructed by the GTVA and the EA as a symbol of their Alliance. It means that I should either use completely new textures or alternate EA textures with GTVA ones...the result won't be good in the second case while the first seems more reasonable. The problem is that we can't create textures...
-
Ask freespaceking. ;)
-
I would like him to work on INF SCP and INFA, that come first ;)
-
You should have gotten on your team at least one person who knows how to make new textures before starting the project. :p
Err... I thought we wouldn't need sombody who knows how to make textures since we used only already-released stuff.
And BTW, in the original project the Steadfast had original EA textures, so there wouldn't have been any problems. But Mobius likes to do things the harder way :p
-
Harder is not always better......
-
Harder is not always better......
Exactly ( :p @Mobius)
-
but it's FUN!
the more complicated it is, the more we like it...
like putting 50 waypoints for the first 2 minutes of cutscene n.4 ... and i still haven't put a single message... :D (well, i still haven't written them all. i would like the checkers/testers to have a look at them to tell me if they make sense)
-
EA textures look crappy and that's the most important model of the campaign...meh...
-
i think i told you a possible way to improve the GTCa Telemus...
-

Why not swipe INFA2 ttiles?
Wait, that would be stealing and possibly leaking. So don't.
-

We're not bastards, we won't do something like that.
-
I wasn't trying to say you were, I was saying that you shouldn't do that. But you get my point.
But please, NOT the Hades textures. :ick:
-
I told you, the textures we are using are provvisory.
-
Shiv just retextured the Steadfast with Orion textures, and now it looks MUCH better than Mobius' one:

Yeah...it's fantastic! I'm waiting for the model and that texture...I don't think it comes from Media VPs or Inferno.
-
I'm not liking those windows or the gold Arcadia texture.
-
I like the windows...those Arcadia textures seem ok for beam cannons.
Since DySkO is incompetent:

Uhh... What happened to the other INF ships (reskinned Ehreos, etc.)?
-
Shiv joined the team only yesterday. We will send him all the necessaty files as soon as we decide what files are REALLY needed (we had some problems standardizing the files... especially for tables... each member has different tables... :nervous:)
-
Yeah, something that pissed us off...
SOC ships have all the same textures... I have replaced all textures named "X" with a texture "Y", mostly belonging to the Deimos. Except for the Ehreos, all reskinned SOC ships look good(expecially the Solaris and the Neptune ;) ).
-
and is there any progress sins 2 months? :D
-
Of course. If there's something you should know about Steadfast... is that there are other things besides FREDding
I'm actually working for INFA, I will complete one more mission before re-starting to work on Steady :D
-
The only problem is that everybody in the team has different files. There are no standard files. Result: Mobius makes missions with a set of tables, Edivad makes missions with a totally different set of tables, and I make other works with ships that are not definitive. Oh, and Shiv does not have any files at all.
This means that even if Mobius is on a FREDding spree and finishes most missions now, we will spend months scrapping and remaking all missions because they are not standardized.
Also, now I can't work due to high school exams, and then I am away until september :nervous:
-
Approx. 3-week break after this week (damn rushed assignments), end of first term.
Anything?
But then again I'm not sure as to what I can bring to the table. I can't even create a proper escort/escort destruction mission to save myself... I do have a super-basic understanding of FRED though, mostly sporadic FRED1 without tutorials.
Makes me wonder - how exactly do organisers do their job...
-
and is there any progress sins 2 months? :D
yes, there are some progresses; eventually i contacted shiv and discussed with him about some new weapons for steadfast. as Dysko, i also have exams in 1 week time, so i'm not working with fred a lot. however, there's a good cutscene in progress on my pc, and as soon as i finish school and get mobius' tables i'll finish it.
-
:bump:
Alright, so this is one massive necrothreadaging I've done here.
I thought it was the case to give this long gone project some justice by updating both the dedicated Wiki article (https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/Steadfast) and its two entries in the Unreleased Campaign List (https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/Unreleased_Campaign_List#Post-Capella), as well as releasing the forever-WIP 50 missions from episodes 1 and 2, which I sincerely doubt can be played with modern modpacks and FSO builds (you'd basically need INFA, INFR1, the FSPort, and several dedicated tables which are now lost).
Should Dysko and Edivad have more files and/or more plot information, I'd be happy to add them.
-
The mission dump is now avaliable on Knossos. Nebula mod page with manual download links. (https://fsnebula.org/mod/steadfast_dump)
