VERY promising space sim on kickstarter
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digitilus/al-skyjacker

I've found out about this today and it looks too good to be true.

See for yourself. These guys have a pretty modest goal along with a load of complete assets, an awesome gameplay video and an alpha build demo.

Up until now I was a Kickstarter skeptic and I was reluctant to sponsor even the most loudly acclaimed projects by famous authors. My mindset was that if I want to support these people  I'll buy the games on release.

This project has broken my resolve however. It would be an enormous loss if it were to not reach its goal or have to cut features because of underfunding.

I certainly wish them luck with that endeavour. I personally am not going to donate to it (because a) I do not have the money to spare, and b) I do not like the art direction), but it certainly looks like a very professional offering.

I find this one damn tempting myself, might see if I can scrape a little together for it before it ends

Because they are in bed with Amazon.  The entire site revolves around Amazon Payments, you know.  You can't use PayPal on Amazon.com after all.

Gameplay looks good.  Assets look odd and jarring.  In game voice sounds are really annoying.  :/

Re: VERY promising space sim on kickstarter
Yeah, I don't like the art direction, either. The interface isn't as elegant or as intuitive as FS2's. And even taking into account the fact that the voices are just the devs for now, the sounds are still really annoying. Gameplay looks potentially promising, although probably not enough to compensate for everything else. Besides, I'm Kickstartered out at the moment.

Not all playwrights are as good as Shakespeare either.

But yes, this looks very good. If it had a real story I'd have already given my money. Thinking about it.

Re: VERY promising space sim on kickstarter
The interface and gameplay looks very similar to freespace from my first impression. Though the video itself was kind of annoying because it had some mechanical voice all over it. I dunno if that was supposed to be music, or voice acting, or what. Too much anyway.

There seemed to be a lot of gauges in the bottom of the screen, which in general seems at least as cluttered as FS in 640x480, and that's on widescreen to boot, hate to think what it looks like on a 4:3 monitor
