Hi!

Re: Official new people thread!
Hi.  Just got the game off steam.  Considering how much I loved games like Tie Fighter and the Wing Commander series back in the 90's I can't believe I never played this game.  Just ordered a CH Combatstick to play it with since my old Thrustmaster POS had a deadspot the side of Alaska in it.  Looking forward to trying out some mods.

Hola All!

I love the old games! I was an old MW2,MW3,MW4 (Veng and Mercs) ...so I know how much effort it takes to keep an old game alive and folks interested.

Just bought the game off Steam, and it would not work...luckily folks in the FS2 Steam forums linked to this jammin' site...WHEW!

just followed the instructions and presto...I am a freakin' Space Pilot!  :D

Hope to add some mods this weekend and see if the multiplayer world is alive and kickin' here.

:welcomeblue:

Unfortunately multi is a bit inactive at the moment, but there are heaps of good single player mods, some good suggestions can be found here.

Multi isn't very active, but hopefully that can change with the influx of new people.  Take up the crusade!  Go to the multiplayer board and ask for games.  Coordinate among yourself and others and we can bring it back.

Re: Official new people thread!
Another new face here brought in by the Steam sale!  I played the original Freespace back in the day when it was first released -- and now, after getting Freespace 2 installed, I am unsure if I ever actually played it!  I assumed I had, but besides the cockpit HUD, nothing else about the game is ringing any old bells -- which means I'm in the unique position of FS2 being a totally new experience for me.  :D

So hello all.  I never would have found you guys if Steam hadn't borked the release of FS2 so badly that players had to find other solutions in order to get the darn thing running!

Ha ha. Maybe it was all part of Steam's master-plan then, to get people to notice HLP, and spread the word, and thus increase the attractiveness of a purchase... :D

Hi

Back here after many years away. Rediscovered FS2 and loving the updates. I installed from my original discs but cannot find anywhere that allows a cd free load. Tried searching on the sites and even downloaded some cracks but there only  work for FS2 not the Open_Space launcher.

Anyway enjoying the second time around with the new graphics and extra content.

You're getting a message about the CD with FSO? Could you take a screenshot of it?

Re: Official new people thread!
Since I registered, I feel obligated to post here before anywhere else.

Hello, anyone who's reading this. I haven't played Freespace 2 in almost a decade, and after getting it on Steam I was directed here for the high-quality mods and helpful community. It's good to see there are still fans of this amazing game, and thank you all for your assistance in keeping Freespace alive.

Re: Official new people thread!
Hello all!
After, I think 3 years, of lurking around here at HLP, I finally decided to make an account.
Just want to say thanks to you all for keeping this game alive.
Oh, and I still have my original, tri-fold, 3 disc FS2 Install package. think I might frame it on the wall.

Hello everyone, I am ShadowCM. I heard about this forum through researching the old "Shadows of Lylat" mod, and I have decided to become a member here in hopes of learning how to properly mod the game and possibly make my own mods in the future. And of course I plan to enjoy the rest of the main campaign right after I finish that Ravana mission.

Re: Official new people thread!
Hi! Don't let the name fool you, either I suck or I eat bullets for breakfast. Both. I've played every Wing Commander & Star Wars flight sim ever made, but no longer like SW (sadly). I also loved Colony Wars for the PS1 (the sequel was a dog :(), even had the old dual flightsick controller Sony made. Anyone here remember that? I'm also a Trekker, Browncoat, an N7 and a Cylon (probably).

Anyway, Ive been starving for GOOD space combat sims and Freespace 2 on GOG brought me here!

If anyone has recommendations for other great space combat sims or suggestions for a good USB flight stick, I would be grateful. Thanks!

Re: Official new people thread!
:welcomered:

@amm0eater; I was sure that there was fairly recent a joystick recommendations thread around here somewhere, but I can't find it now :(  So off the top of my head my recommendations would be:

1) Thrustmaster t.16000m; supposed to have really good precision at a decent price
2) Logitech Extreme 3D Pro; cheap & generally effective, but reported to have quality control issues
3) The Saitek X52 and X52 Pro; more expensive, but seems to be quite popular
4) CH Products range; more expensive again but supposed to be top quality

The only issue with the high end HOTAS style devices is that FSO only currently recognises a single joystick at a time, so if the HOTAS is made up of multiple independent devices (and many of them are) then you need to use some other software to combine it into a single virtual device before you can use it in FSO.

Thanks for replying! As for software that combines multiple controllers into a single virtual device, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I've been looking for similar software to configure a gamepad for another game but so far I've only seen xpadder-type software that doesn't do the job. Maybe I'll need to start a thread...
