Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

Where'd that background come from?

It resembles a skybox from BtRL Demo, but I can't be sure...

It could use a bit of anti-aliasing, though. :p
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

Whoops. I always forget to enable AA before taking these screenshots.

Yes it's a BtRL skybox.

Whats a skybox?

Take a model of a sphere. Stick a picture of a planet on the inside. Get FS2_Open to load it as the background. The entire mission now takes place inside the sphere.

It's not in the sphere... at least as far as I can (or can't) tell.

It's a sphere with a single flat face in it.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
A skybox is generally defined as a 3-d object with textures of sky on the inside, and the camera or player pov, is placed on the inside to simulate an environment without actually rendering a complete environment. A sphere can be used for a skybox, and is generally used in space simulator games i think.

Glad you like the background, but I'd appreciate it if you'd ask my (or BtRL's) permission to use our assets on other projects. No harm done, but please keep it in mind in future.

What are the 2 smallish ships below the Raynor ?

Well, after seeing {303}Shiv use it in one of his screenshots I assumed the background was public domain. Now I know it's not, I'll keep it in mind in the future.

What are the 2 smallish ships below the Raynor ?

Stratcomm's Hyperion and Trashman's Asteroid Miner.

EDIT: {303}Shiv, not ShivanSPS

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Better solution: BtRL can put little copyright notices on their background images.

He asked. :)

It's not like we're likely to say no. It's just a matter of courtesy. It also shows us what was especially well liked so we know to do more of it. :)

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Neat :)

Cheers for the heads up. The skybox was a placeholder for testing purposes but if I do include it in the campaign I'll be sure to ask :)
