holidays brought indigestion, depression, unquenchable wrath, and apparently a steam deck. after some recovery time and at least four trips to the dispensary, 3 to the liquor store and twice to the brothel boat, i think its time to start putting games on the thing. my steam library, with me being a late adopter has like six games in it. but i got lots of games circa 1985-2010, some of which i ripped before my last optical drive bit the dust. after having gotten all my emulators sorted out, minecraft, kerbal space program, and some of my mechwarrior games (stupid epic store) its time for a couple more. so what better than an aging space sim with linux support.
now last time i put freespace on linux (about a dozen years ago) what quite the ordeal. i had to build from source, and from its lack of presence in the steamos repo (and it had at least 6 different quake-derived engines), i presume thats still the case. in a post legalization world, this arcane knowledge is lost to me. now i could probibly dump my fs folder, which hasnt changed in at least a decade, run the windows version and proton would probibly sort it all out for me. but i figured id check to see if there is an easier way. now theres the installer, and i bet that's compiled for windows, and i dont want to have to get 2 pieces of windows software working on linux, that is beyond my patience.
anyway going to go see about og starcaft (the one from the cd i got in the '90s, im not buying it twice) while i wait for a reply.
