Almost done Attack on Titan.  Eren remains one of the singularly worst shounen protagonists I've ever seen.  And with the exception of two or three characters, the entire population of humanity has come down with a terminal case of stupid.  It's a miracle they've survived the previous century.

I look forward to Gundam: The Origin.

Need to catch up on Fate/Stay Night UBW.

And I bit the bullet and purchased the Senran Kagura anime. I still don't exactly "like" the series, but I do have to admit I like the brawling action and blatant stupidity and honesty in fanservice. It's one of the few genres that knows and glorifies its subject matter. Ninja's and boobs. Copious ass kicking, exactly everything that the Ye Olde Guard gaming media abhors 'cause they don't have a single tolerant bone in their bodies xP.

I got the 3ds game for the same reasons.

Finished the Clone Wars' (CGI) Lost Episodes. You know what? Whatever becomes if the new trilogy by JJ, good or bad, I do not care.
The cycle I wanted to see in Star Wars was mended by this series; I need no more.

Currently watching Battlestar Galactica. After playing Diaspora, it rekindled my fandom of it  :p

I'm also rewatching Gurren Lagann, because who doesn't like a good, ridiculous mecha anime?

Picked up VOTOMS

Seems like Fist of the North Star in Space.  They even had space ruffians attacking space villagers.

New series or still season 1? Gotta google if season 2 is already up there in the airwaves haven't thought about that series for a while now...

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
Nah, season 2 is still a ways off. That's what happens when you have a monthly updating manga and give it an anime adaptation so early.

that is some disturbingly interesting framerate/animation rate variations in there, with parts being butter (30fps) smooth and rest the usual snappy-ish anime fare...

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
hm so I got hold of the first series of Dark Mirror myself. The first one was shocking and hilarious. Watching the second episode, and I'm amazed at it. It's the perfect representation of commoditization of the human soul that I've ever seen. Perfect since I've watched Varoufakis making this exact point about the one pitfall of capitalism in his Confessions of an erratic Marxist. It's so painfully pessimistic. But true. And in a perfectly sized DVD for just ten euros! Buy now and you'll get free shipping!

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
Just got done with Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars.

A bit slow-moving, but very, very good. Quite a different take on a sci-fi space opera, and it for once accurately depicts a couple of protagonists who are just part of a larger machine and are not the driving force of the plot. Action sequences are amazing when they happen, and the space combat is surprisingly well thought-out in how it's executed, but that's only a small part of the series: a lot of it is characters talking with each other, yet it isn't boring, somehow.

It's also weird to have the protagonists be on the side of the Empire for once, rather than the weaker Alliances and Republics, and yet the conflict is still very much a grey-vs-grey conflict.

My only complaint is that the translation is a bit off. Here's the deal: most of the names and terms are derived from a constructed language (which the original author went to some rather impressive lengths to make), which were then translated into Japanese for the audience. The English translators then went ahead and just translated straight from the Japanese, completely ignoring the original, which leads to some inaccurate name spellings and contradictory terms here and there (one of the main characters is referred to as a "Prince" for a few episodes when he's actually a Count). So that's kind of annoying.

Too bad they're 21 episodes behind the actual airing.

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
I was in the mood for something stupid so I watched Madan no ou to Vanadis. It did not disappoint, it was indeed rather stupid and fanservice-y. I did find it somewhat refreshing that the main character used a bow rather than a sword, so we didn't get any of that "long stupid talk between hero and villian while they clash swords", instead we get an arrow in the forehead while they're still speaking.

The animation reflects on the low budget, with mediocre CGI for the redshirts. The scenes explaining tactics and formations look nice though, like an animated board game. The generic villains have generic villain voices, the generic hero has a generic hero voice, and the girls have generic girly voices. Though it's kinda funny how the black bow of death sounds like a caring mother.

The Harem was rather well balanced, with some mid-high tier waifu material except for the trash-tier maid girl who was just annoying. It's also refreshing that the main characters don't make a big fuss about killing people to death. It's a war fought by soldiers, getting killed is part of their job description.

The cultures have obvious inspirations, although the geography doesn't make much sense. Brune is rather Mediterranean, but we have snowy mountains to the east and a desert to the southwest right next to the sea? Shouldn't the northeast-southwest trade winds make that whole region more humid? Guess anything is fair when you have fire breathing dragons and magic.

If you're in the mood for stupidity, boobs, and standard anime fanservice it's pretty decent.
