The mission where you escort 3 GTSC's


i cant avoid exploding in a glorious blast of lame due to unknown circumstances, any suggestions?

Try following...

Fly slowly close to the GTSCs (actually this part doesn't matter at all). When the GTSC start exploding, divert ALL power to engine. When you get first warning that something landed on hull hit afterburners (and keep them on) and fly straight. After you reach 110 or so - more wont hurt - (and keep it there for a bit) you should get rid of it. IIRC anyways

There's a SHIVAN ON YOUR FIGHTER. I really can't see how your natural instinct would NOT be to hit your burners and make crazy manouvers. I mean yeah, the first time you might be like, "What the hell?" Then there's the banging, and the screaming of your wingmen, and the warning lights going off... Hitchhiker's Guide notwithstanding, that would be a good time to PANIC.

Can't speak for him, but I didn't GET the message from my wingman.  Thus, after gloriously exploding the first time I just happened to hit my burners on the second try and survived =)

What wingman message? The message about taking damage is a training message displayed below your damage indicator area.

Bah.  Do all of you have the most recent download from the site?  Don't use Turey's installer this time; just do a manual download, extract it to your ST:R folder, and try running that mission again:

It would have been a lot more frustrating if the mission had been longer/harder, but as it is the balance was near perfect for me.

I did the same thing on my second try (and death). Saw nothing, but I wasn't surprised. It's just excellent FREDding.

It wasn't a regular message. It was the type of message with light blue text that is traditionally used in training missions. It can display a larger block of text than usual and also looks cooler. The SEXP itself is "training-msg"

I did try to add an external Shivan model.  I tried for the longest time, but I couldn't get it to work successfully.  The problem is that the model is so small compared to your fighter (2m vs. 30m or whatever) that you can't even see it unless it's exactly in front of you and practically touching your fighter.  And there's no way to achieve that level of accuracy without using SCP tricks.  So I had to reluctantly drop the visual aspect.

That's a real pity. If it were my choice I'd just make it super big despite the uproar from purists, for the cool effect.

I was so jumpy with the sound effects at the point of the Shivan landing-on-fighter part that I was afterburning all around the place. Somehow for once it paid off. 

The thing about the Shivan attacking my fighter is that, if my fighter is destroyed - won't the Shivan get killed by the explosion?

I don't think Shivans care that much about individual losses.
