Title: TBP in a gaming magazine!
Post by: Lt.Cannonfodder on March 01, 2005, 05:14:14 am
Yes, that's right.  TBP has full two page review on Finland's largest gaming magazine. It gives very positive feedback, the only real issue being the missing voice acting in Raider Wars. I expect someone will translate it soon enough to english :)

Any online versions?  Links, etc.?

EDIT: Nevermind, found the project page.  They don't seem to have the article online, though...

No magazines have articles on line... they want you to pay for stuff.

They do have articles online, but only for subscribers who have registered to their site. I'll see if I can get a permission to publish the review here, but it's not sure  yet. If I do get the permission, any takers on translating?

They said Raider Wars is the best thing since sliced bread. Didn't they? Didn't they? Eh? No? Didn't think so.

Actually IP, the article has this to say about you: "Sworn B5-freak Iain is also responsible for the excellent/fine Raider Wars script"

Blame Darkblade for all the mispelled names and minor errors :p

Did Darkblade write the article?

No he didn't, just answered to some of the quests. There's a few things that deserve a good laugh .

This is not a direct translation but that's what the article says.
"Raider Wars is mopping the floor with many commercial games."

And of course I wonder why the article refers that it's disappoining that hometeam's Darkblade is not the team leader, but IPAndrews is.  Since when my nationality was changed and someone forgo to tell me? :D

All in all, there are a few errors or similarities in the article but nothing bad. I count the fact that the writer liked hyperspace jump effect as an error.

Yeah, I corrected that for the writer and he says he got all the information from Darkblade and our FAQ. And he also wants to get a part as a voice actor. Any good parts still open? :D

How come liking the hyperspace effect is an error? You want me to redo it? :D

Our FAQ does not state member names, so I think I'll make a Vader style force choke on Darkblade. :D
About that voice actor part, direct him to the voice acting request thread, I'll then send the sample to White like with everyone else.
And I think I already asked if you could re-do it, you weren't interested because it wasn't your turf. :p

Sounds like they got confused between the Raider Wars team and the larger TBP team and thought that whoever led one also lead the other. :)

It's great to see TBP getting this kind of attention.

I have to defend the guy who made the article. He had a deadline the very next day he interviewed me so it was quite hastily edited. That is why there are some typos, so no need to Vader-choke me, unless you absolutely want to. I'm a masochist, you know.

And I think I had the permission to translate the article once it is released. And now it is so I'll post the translated version today or tomorrow. :)

Until then...

Actually, I asked for permission to translate the article and release it to public. The main editor (I have no idea of the right term, päätoimittaja in finnish) asked me to contact her by e-mail. I haven't yet got a response, so I presume I somehow screwed up and the message never reached her.

On the other hand, the writer of the article said it was ok as long as he could read the translation beforehand. I think it might be good to respect his wishes. You can dig up his contact information from pelit.fi.

Well, I have known Joona Vainio since we both were voice actors in "Buda 5 - Raiders" campaign. So I can contact him by phone or e-mail. :)

I guess I have to send the translated version to him "when it's done". And I probably should send my samples to IPAndrews so he can cast me to some major role or number of smaller roles. :drevil:

Hi guys,

Really sorry for the errors. I really screwed this one up. Thought deadline was still a week away when I got a polite note from our editorial assistant that it was supposed to be yesterday. My mistake. Could have done it a lot better, but I hope you at least got some of the good rep you definitely deserve.

As for the webpublishing permission I am afraid that I am not one to give it. But I'll ask the chief ed tomorrow. Lot of folks in the office have been downed by influenza lately so it might be that she has missed Cannonfodder's mail. Really dunno, 'cos I don't work there physically.

As for the voice acting, I was just kidding and playing some self-irony on myself. But what the heck. Might give it a try and see if I pass your high quality standards. I can't be WORSE than in Buda5, that's for sure...

What is with this influenza epidemy in Finland? Almost everyone in Pori Brigade is under its' influence. Anyway, I'll postpone the release of your articles translated version until we get the official 'go' from the chief editor.

Regarding voice acting, send the samples to IPAndrews. I guess he is in charge of voice actor co-ordination nowadays. His e-mail is probably on the Raider Wars voice acting (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,29323.0.html) thread.

Well, Saddam had to dump those biochem weapons of mass destruction somewhere, you know...

My whole family has been coughing their lungs out fo two weeks now. I seem to be immune, maybe thanks to a certain continuously used orally taken disinfectant. Also known as ethyl alcohol.

Thanks. The chief ed would have my ass for breakfast if by some mistake the article ended up in the Net without her permission and by some mistake the track would lead to me. She's a wonderful, friendly and easygoing person but has a slightly paranoid fixation about protectiveness when it comes to her magazine.

Besides, my ass is already reserved for the secretary.

Yeah, thanks. I'll see about that once I get rid of this sore throat. No fever, but I've been coughing and sneezing for the last two weeks as well.

Joona

Edit: And oh, sorry about the typo, Ian. Guess I was thinking about Iain Banks. If you only knew all the times I've been misspelled as Joonas or even Jouni... No offense.

Let's do this properly, shall we.

Primary energy cells charged. Target locked. Commence firing sequence.

:welcome:

Welcome to HLP. There are exits to the left and rear. Do not attempt to use them. Under your seat you will find empty beer cans, cookie crumbs, rotting corpses of newbies, dog eared dungeon Porn mags left by Shrike... oh, and a Flamethrower. Unfortunately, we're out of napalm, so you'll have to bludgeon people to death with them.

In the event of serious conflict, there are plasma rifles in the forward locker, though these can only be opened by an Admin, [V], God, or Hyperintelligent shade of the colour Blue. If, for whatever reason, you find yourself crawling around in the ductwork, there's a better than average chance you'll encounter a Shivan. They're easy to spot with the five legs and all. If you're lucky, it's just Carl, who responds well to food rewards. If not, then at least you die quickly. The entrance to the main control room is guarded by subspatial claymore mines.

Do not mention FS3. Karajorma's FAQ, wiki and the search button are you best friends. Sacrifice a small rodent for SCP team's glory every weekend. Have a pleasant day.

Good to see you here Joona. I'm sure you'll get a voice part in RW as there are a huge amount of smaller roles to fill.

I saw it too ! This is definetely outstanding news. TBP 3.1 in Pelit will certainly give this project even more support. I got to go and buy that mag right away !

Any other gaming magazines out there discussing TBP ?

Once again, congratulations TBP crew !

Really? I wonder what is his name and which unit he is in?

I thought I was going to be spared from this influenza epidemy. Unfortunately I was wrong so I believe your friend is going to suffer, and he is going to suffer greatly! :drevil:

In another news: Still waiting for permission to release the translated version of Pelit -magazine article.

Säkylä should be part of Pori Brigade, I don't have much information from there so I may mistake.
